    Democratic Philosophy of Education as Education Foundation for the New Indonesian Society. Philosophy of education is a study of general theoretical foundations of the nature, aims, and methods of education. As a multi-religion and a multicultural society, Indonesia should develop a democratic philosophy of education. A strategy to develop such a philosophy of education can be based on a synthesis combining global-progressive education and Indonesian local-modern style values. While the former emphasizes education as an instrument for social reform to achieve a democratic society, the latter can be based on religions, faiths, cultural beliefs, and state-ideology-based values

    Pre-test to 34 first-year students of SMKN 03 Malang showed that they had difficulties in solving mathematical problems of narrative square equations. The aim of this qualitative action research was to describe attempts in carrying out remedial teaching to overcome the students’ difficulties in solving such problems. The teaching process of the research was carried out four times as the research action. The results show that the researcher`s efforts in helping the students deal with questions of narrative square equations were successful, which was indicated by the students’ ability to do the questions correctly and by their responses to the interview

    This study was designed to investigate the stages of students’ cognitive development, the relationship between cognitive stages and students’ mastery of science concepts, the differences in science concepts among the cognitive stages, and the differences in mastery of science concepts between boys and girls. Using purposive random sampling, this study involved 115 sixth-grade students. The data were collected using tests of cognitive developmental stages and of science-concept mastery. The Pearson product moment correlations, one-way anova, and t-test were employed to analyze the data. The findings indicate that 60% of the students were at the concrete operation stages, whereas the rest were at the beginning of the formal operation stage. The study also found that there was a relationship between cognitive development and science-concept mastery, that there were differences in the mastery among cognitive developmental stages, and that there was no difference in science mastery between boys and girls

    Correlation between the Principal's Managerial Skill and Organizational Climate and Teachers' Performance. This research was conducted to examine the correlation between the principal's managerial skill and organizational climate and teachers' performance. The sample consisted of 125 physical education teachers and principals in Kabupaten Mojokerto. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which were then analyzed statistically by regression analyses. The result indicated that there was a significant correlation between the managerial skill and organizational climate and the teachers' performance. The performance of teachers graduated from sport teacher schools was better than those graduated from non-sport schools

    The Psychosocial Dynamics of Adolescent in Learning: An Analysis to the Psychosocial Problems of Senior High School (SMU) Students. This study analyse the psychosocial problems of SMU students in learning. The sample consisted of students and teachers of public and private SMUs in Malang. A questionnaire was used to collect data, which were then analyzed qualitatively. It could be concluded that the adolescents were facing serious problems relating to need for affiliation, self actualization, gender role, and continuing education. The public school students were experiencing more serious problems in competition, need for achievement, and social adjustment. The serious problems faced by private students were motivation and concentration, discipline, resposibility, self-confidence, and perception on reality

    The Effectiveness of Semantic-Mapping Model in Vocabulary Learning at Elementary School. The study aimed to find out whether semantic-mapping model was an effective learning model in learning vocabulary at elementary school. A quasi experimental design was employed, involving experimental and control groups. The data in the form of scores of pretest and posttest of the two groups were analyzed using t-test. The results indicate that the proposed model is more effective than the traditional one in vocabulary learning

    The study aims to evaluate the implementation of the local content subject, that is, Family Welfare Education, in two elementary school in Yogyakarta, focusing on the selection aspect, the program implementation, teacher's understanding, and factors affecting the program implementation. Utilizing observation, interviews, and documentation, the study reveals that the local content program was determinated by the school principals without considering teachers' view, student' interest, local needs, or parent' expectations. The Family Welfare Education was misunderstood as a subject equipping students with knowledge of handicrafts and household affairs
