    The Characteristics and the Implementation of Local Content Curriculum in Relation to the Development of Society’s Needs. The Study aimed to describe the characteristics and the implementation of local content curriculum in relation to the society’s needs. Qualitative research design was employed with documents, teachers, and informal leaders as sources of research data. The data were collected by means of observation, interview, and documentation techniques and were then analyzed by reduction, display, and verification, which was done throughout the study. The results showed that the local content curriculum was not optimally implemented yet and that there was a gap between local content curriculum and the needs of the local society

    This study is aimed to describe the direct or indirect relationships between principals' leadership style, organizational culture, and organizational climate and teachers' achievement motivation. A survey design was applied in this study. The sample was consisted of 317 teachers taken from the population of 1354 teachers. Data were collected with a set of questionnaire and analyzed statistically using percentages and multiple regresion. The study revealed that there was significant relationship between the all variables in this study

    Teacher Assessment and Its Relation to the Planning of Mathematics Teaching

    The aim of this study were to identify the implementation of teacher assessment in primary mathematics and the implementation of planning in primary mathematics teaching, and to examine the relationship between the results of teacher assessment and planning in the teaching of primary mathematics. This study was conducted in two primary schools in North of London. Four teachers from each school were involved in completing the questionnaire and interview. The results indicated that there were four models of relationship between teacher assessment and the planning of mathematics teaching: the teacher assessed the children to see their level of understanding, assessed the children in a systematic and continous process, related the results of assessment to the planning of mathematics teaching on a daily basis, and related the results of assessment to their planning of mathematics teaching in the long-term (half-termly basis)

    Study on Strategic Challenges in Realizing the Educational Decentralization. This study was aimed to obtain data on the implementation of educational decentralization. A meta-analysis was applied in this study, by combining primary and secondary data. The data were obtained from studies held on 1993, 1999, and 2000 by the Ministry of National Education and by the Department of Law. The result revealed that our regional conditions did not contribute to the implementation of educational decentralization. The school management was ineffective and inefficient. Budgets for education were inappropiate. The parent participation was relatively low, but the quantity and quality of human resources in the schools were good enough

    This research examined both the students’ understanding of mathematical problems and their difficulties in solving the problems based on the SOLO taxonomy. The Collis-Romberg test of mathematical problem solving consisting of five items, each having four questions, was administered to 582 first-year students from 15 classes of public senior high schools in Jember. The results indicated that 8.82%, 7.73%, 33.30%, 34.67%, and 16.01% of the students were respectively at prestructural, unistructural, multistructural, relational, and extended abstract levels. The students’ difficulties were identified as follows: they did not understand the stems; they did not understand the questions; and they did not understand the concepts of digit and number, double proportion, and locus of points

    This survey, carried out in Cilacap, Banyumas, and Banjarnegara, all in Central Java, attempts to identify students’ motivation in entering traditional Muslim boarding schools and their knowledge orientation. Primary data were obtained from interviews with the students and the teachers of the Muslim boarding schools, religious leaders, and other resource persons related to the schools. Secondary data were in the form of documents, including institutional documents, curricula, and relevant research findings. The statistical data show that 59% of the students were studying at formal educational institutions, planned to further their study, and tended to choose universities as their first priority; 38% placed universities for Islamic studies as their second priority; and 3% gave no response. The students tended to choose universities because they thought that university graduates would get jobs more easily, because they had planned it since childhood, or because they wanted to better prepare for this changing world

    The Relationship between Ability to Perform Formal Operations of Piaget and Fifth Graders Achievement in Science. The purpose of the study was to find out the relationship between the ability to perform formal operations of Piaget and achievement in science. A number of 598 fifth graders of 12 elementary schools were involved. Interview and test were used to collect the data, which were then analyzed using statistics of percentages, correlation analyses, and multiple regression. The results indicate that girls are proportionally more able to perform formal operations than boys and that the ability has positive relationship to students' achievement in science
