Woman Representation in Tangled Film
The present study entitled Woman Representation in Tangled Film aims at examining and making meaning of the representation of woman in Tangled film. Utilizing a qualitative research, particularly a descriptive method, the present study adopts Kellie Heintz and Mark Stracey’s (2006) film studies theory and women representation theory by Brittany N Maggiore (2003). There are a lot of studies about women representation but only a few which discusses women representation using film studies. Therefore, this present study highlights women representation from different perspective because this study uses a film as the subject of the research to see woman representation by using the language of film, such as camera shot, camera angle and mise en scene. From the analysis, there are three aspects which shows woman representation in Tangled film, such as Rapunzel’s physical appearance, personal traits, and her relation to other characters. Through the language of film, the woman representation in Tangled film is constructed in more detail because the element used by the filmmaker made the figure more highlighted. Meanwhile, the woman representation theory also strengthens the depiction of woman representation in Tangled film. This film offers a new portrayal of woman representation which shows a beautiful woman who has ability in language. Keywords: Camera Angle, Camera Shot, Film, Film Studies, Mise En Scene, Rapunzel, Tangled, Woman, Woman Representatio

Dystopian Transformations and Character Construction in Young Adult Science Fiction Lauren Olivers’ Delirium
The present study entitled Dystopian Transformations and Character Construction in Young Adult Science Fiction Lauren Olivers’ Delirium focuses on the issue of dystopian transformations and character construction. The study investigates the main character, Lena; character construction in the novel; and the contribution of character constellations in the construction of Lena’s characterization. The study was conducted within a descriptive text analysis by applying a qualitative method and is framed by theoretical frameworks of narrative theory (Rimmon-Kenan, 1983) and young adult literature science fiction and dystopia (Bradford, Mallan, Stephens McCallum, 2008). The results demonstrate that Lena’s characterization is constructed through two factors. These factors are the atmosphere of dystopian transformations and constellation characters which give both positive and negative effects to Lena’s characterization. Keywords: Science Fiction, Dystopia, Young Adult Dystopia, Characterization, Narrative Theory, Constellation Characte
Eat, Pray, Love: The Representation of Italy, India, and Indonesia as Exotic Destinations
The research is a descriptive study of the representation of the cultures of Italy, India, and Indonesia in the novel Eat, Pray, Love (2006). The purpose of the research is not only to depict the way the traveler represents the three countries, but also to reveal the traveler’s manner towards the differences of the host cultures – Italy, India, and Indonesia – compared to her cultural origin. As a novel which contains travelling experiences and descriptions about the host culture, Eat, Pray, Love shows the tendency of the writer’s supreme attitude towards the cultures of the three countries. To answer the formulated research problems, the study uses Victor Segalen’s (2001) notions of Exoticism which emphasizes exoticism as the notion of difference: the perception of diversity. The research employed qualitative approach and was presented in a descriptive method. The findings of the study show that the three countries are exotic destinations in terms of their cultural, religious, and economic levels. The cultures of the three countries are exotic characterized by three aspects: the existence of the observer’s desires towards the observed object, the ability of the observed object in fulfilling the observer’s desire for exotic experience, and the remoteness of the observed object. From the analysis, it is found that the traveler gradually respects and appreciates the heterogeneity of the host culture’s world views. Keywords: Representation, Travel Writing, Exotic, Exoticism, Supremac
A Translation Analysis of Tourism Terms from Indonesian into English
This research is entitled A Translation Analysis of Tourism Term from Indonesian Into English. The aim of the research is to discover the tourism terms found in the textbook, to examine the procedures of translation used in translating the Indonesian tourism terms into English, and to identify the quality of the tourism terms’ translation. This research employed a descriptive analysis with a qualitative approach as a method. It is based on Newmark’s theory on translation. There are 19 procedures of translation according to this theory; the translator in this study applied only 12 procedures in translating the tourism terms. Therefore, the quality of tourism terms’ translation in the bilingual textbook is in grade four or in excellent level. However, it can be proved that the transposition is the most frequently applied by the translator of the textbook in translating the tourism terms. It involves grammatical changes in translating tourism terms from Indonesian into English. On the other hand, the tourism textbook has many terms that require grammar changes in Bahasa Indonesia. Keywords: Tourism terms, Translation Procedures, Textbook
Theme-Rheme and Thematic Progression in Obama’s Speech and Its Translation
The study entitled Theme-Rheme and Thematic Progression in Obama’s Speech and Its Translation focuses on how a translator puts differences in worldview between the source and the target language text. The differences of worldview itself can be found by analyzing each sentence chosen by the translator. This study used Theme-Rheme and Thematic Progression as proposed by Halliday, which is developed by Gerot and Wignell (1994) and Eggins (2004). The study shows that both texts use Participants as the most frequently used theme. However, the text in the target language considers Participants much more important than the text in source language does. Meanwhile, the analysis of thematic progression shows that both texts use Theme Reiteration. It can be concluded that both texts tend to be monotonous because Obama often begins the speech with the same words. Keywords: Theme-Rheme, Thematic Progression, Worldview, Speech

This study was aimed to reveal jargon formation in FJB Kaskus postings and investigate context of situation underlying the use of jargons. The result shows that there are 51 jargons with the total of 365 occurrences that can be divided into 10 types of jargon formation: abbreviation, clipping, clipped compounds, borrowing, coinage, derivation (prefix, sufix, prefix+afix), reduplication, and antonomasia. An Analysis of Compensation Techniques for Translation Loss and Captioning Guidelines in Merantau Subtitle
This study focuses on the translation and captioning techniques which are applied in the English Subtitle of Merantau film. Drawing on Hervey and Higgins’ (1992) concept of compensation techniques and Karamitroglou’s (1998) captioning guidelines, the study finds that the translator mostly uses Compensation in Kind technique to compensate for the translation loss. This choice may be due to the translator’s ability to find the equal expression in target language that is more acceptable. It is also found that the translated script has fulfilled the standards of captioning. Keywords: Compensation Techniques, Translation Loss, Captioning, Equal Expressio
The Legitimation Construction in Regent of Garut’s Statements on His Unregistered Marriage: A Critical Discourse Analysis
Legitimation is one form ofthe social actionswhichis often done eventhough it isprobably less recognized. The present study examines the legitimation construction by the Regent of Garut and also the ideologies underlying the legitimation. It uses van Leeuwen’s (2008) framework regarding discursive construction of legitimation under the theory of Critical Discourse Analysis. This study is largely qualitative, but some quantification is employed to support the description. The collected data are in the form of statements delivered by Regent of Garut related to his unregistered marriage to a young girl. The data are analyzed in the unit of clause to reveal the legitimation construction in the texts. This study finds that from four major types of legitimation asserted by van Leeuwen (2008),only three types of legitimation are evidenced in the texts, i.e. rationalization (44.44%), authorization (44.44%), and moral evaluation (11.11%). Hence, the Regent of Garut’s actions in the texts are strongly legitimized through the logical explanation to support the unregistered marriage, supported by referring to high status as the basis of the actions, and the reference to moral value of humanity to avoid adultery. The ideologies underlying the legitimation are feudalism and masculinism. Keywords: Critical Discourse Analysis, Legitimation, Regent Of Garut, Unregistered Marriage, Ideology
