Riflessioni sulla conservazione ed il restauro conservativo di beni archivistici e librari
Some aspects concerning the situation of the archive-library sector are analyzed, highlighting all the weaknesses in the organization of the libraries and of the archives, weaknesses in the actions aimed at prevention and safeguarding and effects of restoration on aging
Analisi materica sul crocifisso del San Michele: il materiale di riempimento
In the Romanesque basilica S. Michele in Pavia there is a silver foil Crucifix that dates back to the XII century. During a precise restoration work carried out in 2003 the material was analyzed in order to obtain more precise information. In particular the analysis focused on the filling materials under the silver foil and on the characterization of their resins, which, according to the results, are colophony and beeswax. The filling material for the head is very probably the original one and its binder is wax, the filler of the body is different and very probably it was reintroduced during one of the previous restoration works on the crucifix, of which unfortunately we know nothing
L’individuazione dei Beni Culturali di appartenenza pubblica e di enti privati non lucrativi
The individuation of the cultural heritage is the first step to be carried out before subjecting the cultural heritage to the legal preservation regime. The Author adopted the systems for the individuation of the cultural heritage owned by the State or by non profit private legal persons as provided for by the law in force, at the same time he indicated the problems that were arising, describing the new system indicated by art.12 of the new Code for the Cultural Heritage and Landscapes. That new system is based on a relative legal presumption according to which the whole property belonging to non profit public or private subjects can be considered as cultural heritage. However it is possible to prove that this is not true by means of a special procedure, the so-called “test of the cultural interest” that can be carried out by the Ministry for cultural heritage and activities both officially and at the request of the subjects who own the cultural heritage. After that the conditions and practical aims of the test are analyzed, making a distinction between the official test and the test at request of the other party, evaluating the testing procedure (in terms of competence, guarantees of participation, length and the discussed application of the so-called principle of implied assent), and the effects of the test, making a distinction between negative and positive test
Enssib and the preservation of special collections in France
What kind of formal training and continuing education are provided in France for special collection librarians, and how do they prepare librarians for the variety of educational roles they have to play? To answer these two questions I will mostly rely on my experience of ten years as director of Enssib, the school that has a monopoly on the initial training of all French librarians and provides most of their continuing education, hoping this will be of interest to our Italian partners with whom we work to define “new professional figures” dedicated to the preservation of cultural artefacts
Alcamo Project: un laboratorio integrato per l’analisi e lo studio del settore officinale romano di Contrada Foggia ad Alcamo Marina (TP)
During the archaeological research activities carried out in the past three years near Alcamo Matina (TP) an officinal area of the Roman period was brought to light. The find was accidental and consisted of a series of kilns used for the cooking of ceramic material which dates back to the centuries I-V A.D. The architectonic and structural solutions adopted for the realization of the ceramic complex are very interesting, a series of kilns on various levels with a system of terracing of the ground, orientation of the axis and of the opening of the praefurnium towards the non dominant winds, alternation of containment and strengthening wall structures and structural fillings made of clay. Some studies under way help better understand the officinal complex, they focus on the analysis of the ceramic material found there and on the reconstruction of the territory on the basis of methods of satellite bearing (GPS) and on the basis of cartographic results of models on the GIS platform
La qualità dell’aria in ambienti confinati
Some measurements were made on the total suspended particulate (PTS) and on the fraction PM 10 of dusts within some environments, in particular in cultural institutes such us the State Archives in Rome, Florence and Rimini. The aim is not only to highlight the alteration-degradation of the above-said dusts on the manufactures placed and kept there, but also to quantify the polluting substance that can be inhaled by any guest of the Archive during his or her normal working activity, respecting the limits defined by the law for human protection
Gli architetti italiani a Mosca nei secoli XV-XVI
At the end of the XV century and at the beginning of the XVI century one of the most powerful strongholds in Europe, the Kremlin, was built in Moscow. This building was made thanks to the engineering, architectonic and mechanical genius of the Italian masters who had come to Russia by request of the Great Prince Ivan the Third. The Italian architects were able to combine the Russian architectural style with the style of the Italian Renaissance, applying the new technologies and using state-of-the-art tools. This article deals with the all the works carried out by the Italian masters in the area of Moscow and with the building techniques that they introduced in the Russian capital

Characterization of materials and alteration-degradation products of the Blessed Virgin Rosary altar in the Saint Dominic church in Ravenna: preliminary study for the restoration interventions
The construction of the Blessed Virgin Rosary altar in the Saint Dominic church (13th century) in Ravenna occurred between 1723 and 1770. All the portions of the church are interested by intense degradation phenomena and, in particular, the altar preservation condition is worrying. The whole surface is covered by spots and deposits of various nature, efflorescences, swellings, detachments and lacunae. The main cause of damage is the humidity capillary climb. In a preliminary investigation, surveys and observations have been made in order to describe the materials and to evaluate the preservation condition. Then, the areas for sampling have been chosen for analyses and stratigraphies. The present work concerns the altar materials characterisation and the alteration – degradation products analyses: this is essential to plan the restoration interventions
Preventive Methods to reduce the deterioration of monuments and outdoor art by microbe burden of the solid-micro-dust-fraction
To compare the various restorative measurements under competitive environment simulation, may become a major challenge to the concepts to preserve the pieces of the world heritage. Test the ability of the protective measurement before putting it into practice. The primary effects as e. g. a cover, a refreshing of the colour, or an improved light reflection can lead to a disaster if the active acting world of microbes gets support by that action. The way out is to implement test-systems in advance, able to judge the protective measurement under different defined conditions simultaneously
