    Islamic Education Model for Muallaf (Converts) through a Participatory Approach

    The purpose of this research is to develop a model of Islamic religion studies for converts by using a participatory approach. This is intended to provide an understanding that converts need directions and guidances. It is not only in order to deepen understanding or increase confidence, but also concerns about their existence as converts. Based on the interviews conducted, it is known that converts need a forum as a place to continue in understanding the religion of Islam. Thus, the development of a model of Islamic studies education for converts is very urgent to do. This study used a qualitative research method by using a descriptive analysis approach. The results showed that the model of converting to Islam which was developed in a participatory approach was adapted to the needs of converts themselves. In this case, the researcher designs the needs of converts by translating and describing the expressions of converts into a framework to become an educational model

    Analysis of the ELT Pre-Services Teacher Lesson Plan: A Case on the Vocabulary Discussion

    As the lesson plan is considered of main requirements for both teacher and practiced teacher and vocabulary discussion is essential to include. This research is aimed to identify the vocabulary discussion used by teacher in the Lesson Plan. Using 22 peaces ELT ELT lesson plan, the research was done by implementing documentation study. Regarding the distinction indicators of both KTSP and K13 curriculum,  it was found that the lesson have some limitation in using the vocabulary discussion in which there are only  9.09% of the lesson plan that included the vocabulary discussion as a step in the teaching of reading for comprehension before doing reading activity, and  4.55% offers it after the students read the text. Most of the documents do not include the steps of  vocabulary discussion in the teaching of reading for comprehension. Finally, 19 or   86.36% that did not offer the vocabulary discussion

    A Meta Analysis Study of the Student Teams Achievement Divisions (STAD) Method in English Teaching and Learning

    This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the STAD method towards English teaching and learning. The method use in this research is meta-analysis. Data collection is carry out using coding data sheets in which researcher code information from research articles in journals about the use of the STAD method in English teaching and learning. The data are analyze by calculating the effect size. The results of the study reveal that overall the STAD method is effective in influencing English learning as much as 1.53 or is in the category of large effect. The STAD method also has an impressive impact in terms of areas with a magnitude of 1.31 in Indonesia. In addition, based on education level, the result of the large effect is 0.9 at the junior high school level and 1.9 at the high school level. On the other hand, the effect on students' English proficiency is 1.64. STAD affects reading, speaking, and writing skills in English with a large effect value of 1.05, 0.81, and 3.07. From these results, it can be concluded that the STAD method is effective to be applied in learning English because STAD has a great influence in various regions in Indonesia, in education levels, and can improve students' English skills in various aspects

    The Effect of Stream-Based Teaching Materials Using Android on Students’ Problem-Solving Skills and Religious Attitudes

    This study aims to develop water teaching materials using android on students’ problem-solving skills and religious attitudes with a learning model of the Science, Technology, Religious, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STREAM) approach science subjects. The experimental method carried out by R and D uses the 4D design (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The research data were collected and analyzed in the form of quantitative descriptive from the results of the students’ pretest and posttest. This research was conducted through a google form by distributing a questionnaire, which was given to students with 50 respondents and five science teachers who had used STREAM-based water teaching materials using android. The results of the study, the average percentage of problem-solving skills with N Gain was 73% with a high category, which means that the application of learning materials based on android is proven to improve student learning. Assessment of religious attitudes in integrating material with the verses of the Quran is very good. This study’s conclusion shows that learning using STREAM-based teaching materials using android is statistically very significant, proven to be effective in improving students’ problem-solving skills and religious attitudes to water material in online learning during the current pandemic

    Evaluation on the Policy of Using the E-Learning System with Fully Online in the Pandemic-Covid-19 Period

    The use of e-learning platforms during the Covid-19 pandemic and in the context of facing the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 is a must in almost all levels of education, especially in universities. Many efforts have been made and implemented in order to apply these demands, for example by developing applications that are expected to help organize the digital learning process. The method used in obtaining information is a quantitative method using an instrument, namely a questionnaire (distribution of questionnaires) through the Google form application. The subjects in this study were UNP students in the Fundamentals of Education course in the July-December 2020 semester. Based on the research results, information was obtained regarding the policy evaluation of the use of a full online (online) e-learning system that could be categorized as good and effective, but it needs to be improved in several parts, for example: effectiveness, content, interaction patterns, understanding of the material, network access, large/expensive data packets when using video conference collaborating with the platform e-learning. The element of effectiveness/efficiency of online learning as many as 23.5% of respondents considered it less effective / efficient, meaning that there were still gaps in the fully online policy implemented by universities in this case, namely UNP

    Utilizing Speed Reading Technique for Students’ Ability in Comprehending Text

    Learning to read in junior high school is one of the language skills that plays an important role. Reading skill is the third skill that is mastered by students in having a role in language skills and mastery of other subject matter. This study aims to determine students' speed-reading ability. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The population of this study were all students of class VIII SMP Negeri 35 Makassar with a total of 288 students. The sample is 36 students. The sampling technique is a side random technique. Data obtained were analyzed using the percentage technique. The results of the data analysis showed that from 36 students as respondents, only 20 students (55.55%) managed to score above 75. This shows that the speed-reading ability of class VIII students of SMP Negeri 35 Makassar is still poor because it is still under of the standard, which is at least 85% of all respondents. Therefore, it is recommended that students and teachers be more active and that the learning support facilities are improved

    Improving the Listening Skills of Tadris Students in English Through the Film Animation Application

    This classroom action research aims to improve students' listening skills through the application of animated films. The subjects in this study were second semester students at STAIN Gajah Putih Takengon. The data in this study were obtained from observation sheets, tests and questionnaires. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, it is known that in cycle I, 68.57% of students are actively involved in learning and 70% of students are motivated and enthusiastic about learning. Whereas in cycle II, 77.14% of students were actively involved and 88.57% of students were motivated and enthusiastic about participating in learning. In the preliminary study, the average listening ability of students was 53.43%, in the first cycle the students' average listening ability increased to 59.37%, and in the second cycle the increase reached 76.71%. The results of the student response questionnaire showed that 87.5% felt happy with the application of animated films and 81.25% felt that the use of animated films had an effect on listening skills. 93.75% said it was easier to practice listening skills with animated films and 90.63% preferred learning to listen with animated films compared to other media such as tape recorders, and 93.75% disagreed with learning to listen without using audio visual aids

    STEM-Based E-Module Integrated Local Wisdom of Rice Stem Fertilizers on Students' Critical and Creative Thinking

    Several studies have acknowledged that using E-Modules can support the thinking and creative abilities of students to be able to learn independently and can also repeat lessons independently whenever students want. The e-module provided also contains about the sustainability of the Minangkabau custom that almost no one plays the traditional instrument, namely the rice stalk pupuik. Where is the rice stem fertilizer originating from the Payukumbuh, Lima Puluh Kota, West Sumatra. This one musical instrument is a musical instrument that has many characteristics in playing it, which has many meanings for each playing technique. This rice stem pupuik musical instrument was explained in the material of mechanical waves and sound waves from class 12 material. The game technique owned by the rice stem pupuik or the shrill sound emitted by the rice stem pupuik, was explained in learning about sound waves. From this, students will be made to think critically and creatively in finding out about the lessons of mechanical waves and sound waves which are owned by the rice stem pupuik musical instrument. The products provided in this study are very different from the E-Modules that have been made by previous researchers, namely the E-modules integrated with local wisdom of rice stem fertilizers originating from West Sumatra

    Fostering Students’ Creativity in Academic Writing at Islamic Junior High School Koto Tuo, West Pasaman

    The current study aimed at 1) developing a portfolio-based learning model at Madrasah Tsanawiyah, and 2) testing the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the developed learning model. The design of the study was Research and Development (RD) using a 4-D model (defines, design, develop, and disseminate). Teachers’ books, students’ workbooks, a learning model, and validity, reliability, and practicality test were designed to support the implementation of the learning model to the teaching and learning process in the classroom. The qualitative data were collected through observation, interviews, and field notes, while the quantitative data were obtained from test and questionnaires. The data then were used to develop a final portfolio-based learning model. The findings revealed that 1) the learning instruments of portfolio-based learning model such as teachers’ book, students’ workbook, the learning manual could be adopted to implement the model; 2) the learning model was valid, practical and effective. The learning model triggered students’ engagement to study academic writing. It is concluded that the development of a portfolio-based learning model motivated students to study academic writing. Therefore, using a portfolio-based learning model was recommended to discuss further in different research

    New Students' Self-Adjustment at Ar-Risalah Islamic Junior High School: Roles and Supporting Factors

    The purpose of this research is to determine teachers’ roles in improving students' self-adjustment and its supporting factors at Ar-Risalah Islamic Junior High School, Padang, Indonesia. This is qualitative descriptive research with data collected from teachers, students, principals, and other school officials through interview, observation, and documentation. The data collected were analyzed using reduction and triangulation processes. The result showed that the teacher had expertise as a motivator to support and trigger the student enthusiasm in adapting and learning new materials at school. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors of the self-adjustment process were parents that have not been able to let their children go to boarding schools and teachers without psychological backgrounds, because this background are needed for better approach and intervention for children to make them enthusiasm in learning in boarding schoo
