    THE STUDENTS’ LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES IN READING AND SPEAKING

    Many types of learning strategies can be used by the language learners to make the learning process running well. However, in the doing the practice the students are identified have limited types of learning strategies and it makes them face many problems in learning. The aims of the study is to find the typical language learning strategies used by the English Department Students in speaking and reading in English. The result of the study showed that the level of the strategies used were still medium. Thus, the students of English Department are suggested to apply many strategies. it also hopes that the teachers are able to train sufficient strategy

    When observed the children’s learning and their development, teachers need to understand what they see. The process of observing, noting, and recording, with the support of record like the Primary Language Record, helps to develop powers of observation, but also directs attention to what is significant in a child’s behavior. The frameworks present in the Record help to structure these observations and provide the basis for a developing profile of a child’s strengths and need as a learner. There are five dimensions form part of a continuum of learning; they go on being important and developing throughout a person’s life as a learner: Confidence and independence, Experience, Strategies, Knowledge understanding, and reflectiveness.     The purpose of this study was to describe how the ability to write a persuasive essay in class X students of SMAN 1 South Solok seen from the characteristics of persuasive essay that contains an invitation, containing facts, logical sentences, and trustworthy. The method used in this research is descriptive method. Data collection techniques used in this research is a test post. Findings showed that there were 28 essays written by the students, which amounted to 21 perfectly qualified individuals with high mastery 96% - 100%, 5 people who get close enough to the qualification level of mastery of 46% - 55%, and 2 people are getting poor qualifier with mastery level 16 % - 25%, and the level of class X students of SMAN 1 South Solok in writing a persuasive essay in terms of the characteristics of persuasion that contains an invitation, containing facts, logical sentences, and trustworthy quite well with the average value of 86% (level of mastery 86% - 95%)
