The Implementation of Technology Approaches to Develop Learners’ Autonomy in Learning English
Get PDFAutonomy in learning is about people taking more control over their learning in the classrooms, the purpose of learn languages and the ways in which they learn them. In this way, technology helps much in learning a language. This paper explores the autonomy as more than preference or strategy by the learner; it must be supported in a systematic way by the teacher and the curriculum for the learner to benefit. The characteristics of successful autonomous learner are explained followed by some examples that shown that learners have in common are that their attitudes were developed after they made their own decision for themselves that exclusively studying in the classroom environment was not enough. The paper also emphasis on technology approaches in developing learner autonomy, especially by using the computer and the internet. The Effectiveness of in-service Teacher Training Program at Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang
Get PDFThe purpose of this research is to reveal: 1. The influence of in-service Teacher Training Program (PLPG) towards the teacher competency as participant of PLPG; 2. The correlation between gender (X1) towards the teachers’ competency as participant of PLPG; .3. The correlation between Age (X2) towards the teachers’ competency as participant of PLPG; 4. The correlation between years of service towards the teachers’ competency as participant of PLPG; 5. The correlation between the number of  training followed (X4) towards teachers’ competency as participant of PLPG; and 6. This research used quantitative method. The population of this research is 1.300 teachers of PLPG in 2013. By using Yamane formulation, there are 220 teachers taken as the sample. The data  was analyzed by using t test and correlation analysis. The findings of the study suggested that: 1. There is a positive influence of PLPG implementation towards teachers’ competency as PLPG participant; 2. There is no significant correlation between gender (X1) and teachers’ competency as PLPG participant; 3. There is a significant correlation between Age (X2) towards teachers’ competency of PLPG; 4. There is no significant correlation between the Years of Service (X3) towards teachers’ competency as the participant of PLPG; 5. There is a significant correlation between the number of Diklat followed (X4) towards teachers’ competency as the participant of PLPG; and 6. Improving Lecturers’ Performance through Effective Learning at Department of Islamic Education at Faculty of Islamic Education and Teacher Training IAIN IB Padang
Get PDFThe aim of this study is to describe the work situation variables, achievement motivation on the performance of Islamic education (PAI) lecturer in creating effective learning in the Department of PAI. This study is a combination of quantitative and qualitative methodss (mixed methods) obtained from observation, questionnaire, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through statistics. Qualitative data were analyzed by using data reduction, categorization, and data verification and conclusions. The working athmosphere contributes 48.7% to the influence on the lecturer performance work and the motivation contributes 43.0% to the impact on the lecturer performance. Work situation and achievement motivation respectively affect the work performance of 58.3%. Learning approach used is expository approach, the inquiry, and emotional approach. It was also  used PAKEM approach and an approach that is Andragogy. The learning method applied in this research is multi method in the form of active active learning. The Using of Media in Learning Fiqh to the Islamic Education Department of Education and Teacher Faculty of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang
Get PDFThe using of media in learning is one of important aspects to be applied in learning process, the delivery of learning material is easy to understand, in addition to the provide more concrete learning, specially in the achievement of learning objectives. The aims of this study is to reveal the use of Media in Learning Fiqh in the Department of Islamic Education, Education and Teaching Faculty of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang. This study used a qualitative descriptive method, the informants of this study is consisted of lecturers who teach jurisprudence at the Department of Islamic education, the other jurisprudence lecturers, students and subsequently increased in accordance with the purposes of the data obtained. Data collected by using observation, interviews, and documentation, to the validity of the data obtained, it is conducted the triangulation during the research process. The research results revealed that the Use of Media in Learning Fiqh of the Department of Islamic Education in Teaching Faculty of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang by lecturers already in used, such as using a doll to organize the corpse, shroud, perfume, coffin corpse and occasional lecturer use media electronics such as laptop. This was due to the limited facilities and infrastructure that provide in Department of Islamic Education, Tarbiyah Faculty of IAIN Imam Bonjol Padang, and the instability of electricity power, thus, the most frequently media that is used by lecturer is a whiteboard using the discussion method. Keywords: Media, Learning of jurisprudence, Department of Islamic studiesCopyright © 2015 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserve
Model of Islamic Counseling in Developing Students’ Competencies in MAN 1 Bandung
No full textStudents’ interpersonal problems with their peers, parents, and teachers have become more critical in the present society that serious attention must be paid to overcome it. Therefore, Islamic counseling model which is derived from the Quranic principles has been developed to sustain the wealthy condition of individual students. The purpose of this research is to develop an effective Islamic counseling model that may increase students’ interpersonal competency in MAN I Bandung.  To achieve such a purpose, then, a Research and Development (RD) through need assessment, development, experiment, and model revise were set up. A quasi – experiment with “Pretest – Posttest Control Group Designs†procedure has been implemented to test the model being developed. The finding showed that the level of student’s interpersonal competency before the treatment varied greatly. The post-test score after the treatment, however, showed that their interpersonal competencies got significantly improved. This improvement suggests that student’s interpersonal competency should be developed in terms of: self perceptive and other people, self firm, become comfortable with one self and other people, become independent person, realistic expectation to oneself and other people, and self protection in interpersonal situations.Keywords:   Islamic Counseling Model and Interpersonal CompetencyCopyright © 2015 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserve
The Leadership of Kyai in Islamic Boarding School (A Study of Islamic Boarding School in Jambi)
Get PDFThis study was conducted based on the problem of kyai leadership pattern in Islamic boarding school in Jambi which is considered as paternalistic and centralistic. The study was aimed at exploring the effectiveness of kyai leadership at Islamic boarding schools in Jambi dealing with the following questions: 1) What kind of system is applied in the election of Islamic boarding school leader? 2) What kind of leadership model used in Islamic boarding school Jambi? 3) What is the effectiveness of the kyai leadership in relation with the vision, mission, management, and policy maker of that school? 4) What were the roles of kyai as the leader of Islamic boarding school among the society? Qualitative design was used in this study and purposive sampling was employed to determine the respondents. Observation, interview and documentation were used to collect the data. It was found that: 1) The Islamic Boarding School of Nurul Iman applied deliberation and consensus system leader in which teachers, board of trustees and coordinator of Pecinan are participating in when electing the leader and the model of leadership in this school is charismatic. The As’ad School leader’s election was based on family-tree system and the model of leadership in this school was paternalistic. In PKP Al-Hidayah, the leader is elected directly by the government of Jambi province as the owner of the school. 2) In general, the model of leadership applied in Islamic boarding school in Jambi was collective-passive model because generally Islamic boarding school at Jambi are under the management of particular foundation.3) The leadership of kyai is not effective because the management system applied was not effective. 4) The role of kyai among the society ran harmoniously. Based on the research findings, democratic and open election system are recommended in Islamic boarding school leader election to respect individual right to consider leader’s credibility, quality and acceptability.  Copyright © 2015 by Al-Ta'lim All right reserve
Improving Students’ Skills in Translation through Students-Teams Achievement Division (STAD) Technique
No full textThis classroom action rresearch was aimed at improving students’ skills in translating at the English Department of the State Islamic University (UIN) Ar-Rarniry Banda Aceh by using the Student-Teams Achievement Division (STAD) Technique. Throughout the entire cycles, students worked in groups of 4-5 persons to plan and write their translations. The study showed that the average score of pre- test (66) increased dramatically to reach 86, and moved up a little higher (87) after the second cycle.
