    Get PDF
The objective of this research is to investigate the implementation of Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) to improve students speaking skills in the aspects of accuracy, clarity, and fluency. This research employed a quantitative method in nature. A pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was used. The population of this research was all second-year students. The sample of this research was one of the second-year classes chosen by using the purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in this research was a speaking test: pre-test and post-test. The data collected were analyzed statistically. The results showed that the implementation of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) improved students speaking skills in terms of accuracy, clarity, and fluency. The result of Wilcoxon showed the value of Asymp. Sig (2-tailed) for accuracy, clarity, and fluency is 0.000 which means that the resulting test is less than the minimum requirements of the statistics range (0.05). Therefore, the use of CTL in teaching and learning speaking is very beneficial for students to improve their speaking skills. Thus, the hypothesis of this research was accepted. There is a significant improvement in students speaking skills after they were taught by using CTL

This research aims to find out students' perception of the English subject and provides an overview of the students learning outcome at SMA Negeri 1 Jangka Buya, Pidie Jaya. The instruments used in this research are questionnaires, interview guides, and documentation. Students' perceptions are classified into three categories: education, economy, and social interaction, and one group of negative question models support the other three. The student's perception of English is dominant in education. Generally, the students of SMAN 1 Jangka Buya come from dayah (Islamic school). They believe that mastering English can help them promote Islamic teachings more effectively. The negative question is the second dominant result; most students admit that language is a medium to build up connection and communication verbally or through written text. Meanwhile, in the economy category, students believe that we can increase income with English language skills. It is also shown that students who have good grades in English also have a high perception of certain categories. In comparison, students who have low perception get low learning outcomes on the English subject. So that, the students' perception and background must be hardly noticed by the teacher in planning a good teaching and learning process

The teaching of English is very important for young learners in the era of industry 4.0. A successful teacher is largely determined by the strategies he/she uses in the learning process. The students in SMP Negeri 1 Sabang were very interested in speaking English. They had won many events in English speaking competitions and mostly reached a good score on speaking test. This research was conducted to find out the strategies used, problems, and the solutions faced by the teachers during a teaching process at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Sabang. The research method of this study is descriptive qualitative by employing observation and interview guide sheets as the research instruments. The participants of this research were three English teachers at SMP Negeri 1 Sabang. The results show that the teachers used various kinds of strategies in teaching speaking; role-play, picture describing, interview, and simulations. It was also found that there were five obstacles during the teaching process; some students disturb their friends, ignore the learning process, bully their friends, lack in vocabulary, and possess limited teaching and learning duration. The solutions in solving the problems show that the teachers use four approaches to solve the problems: teachers maximized student's centered, motivated deeply and sustainably, provided a new vocabulary, and extra time online. It is suggested that English teachers should always find new ideas, strategies, or techniques in teaching-learning so that students are interested in taking part actively in the learning process

Second, in terms of interactive meaning, the textbook supports the medium shot (69.5%) and the oblique perspective (54.9%). All of the pictures in the book are in black and white (100%). Additionally, (81.7%) images have a background. Last, from the compositional meaning, it was found that the images in the textbook are more presented to be informative (38.6%) rather than illustrative (34.8%) and decorative (26.6%). Furthermore, the dominant positions of the images are top/bottom position (60.7). In conclusion, textbook pictures can serve pedagogical purposes by supporting students in completing the tasks that follow the pictures
