The Efficacy of Seminal Vesicles Extract Administration on Percentage of Estrus and Pregnancy on Local Goat
The aim of this research was to determine the percentage of estrus, performance of estrus, and percentage of pregnancy in local goat which synchronized with seminal vesicles extract. The seminal vesicles used in this research were collected from the waste of Banda Aceh slaughter house. The goats were allotted into 2 groups. Goats in group were injected with 0.5 ml PGF2 intramuscularly, and goats in group II were injected with 5 ml seminal vesicles extract intrauterine. The injection was done twice with the interval of 11 days. The goats which perform estrus sign are mated naturally once in every observation. Pregnancy diagnosing was done using chemical urine method 2 months after mating. The estrus percentage and pregnancy data were analyzed with chi-square and the estrus performance (onset and estrus duration) were analyzed using student T test. The estrus onset of group I and II were 29.334.62 and 24.000.00 hours (P0.05). Estrus duration of group I and II were 26.67+4.62 and 20.00+11.97 hours respectively (P0.05). The estrus percentage of group I and II did not show any significant differences (P0.05), those are 60.0 and 40.0% respectively, whereas the percentage of estrus from both groups were 100.0 %
MORFOLOGI DAN HISTOKIMIA KELENJAR MANDIBULARIS WALET LINCHI (Collocalia linchi) SELAMA SATU MUSIM BERBIAK DAN BERSARANG (Morphological and Histochemical Properties of Mandibular Glands of the Cave Swiflets (Collocalia linchi) During Reproductive and Nesting Period)
The aimed of present study is to investigate the morphological and histochemical of mandibular glands of the cave swiflet (Collocalia linchi). The study used 24 adult wallet linchii paired mandibular gland located in the ventral of the mandible. They were ovoid in form and whitish in color. The gland consisted of mucous acinar cells and waspositive with PAS but negative with AB (pH 2,5). The result suggested that the acinar cells of the mandibular gland contained only neutral mucopolysaccharides and no acid mucopolysaccharides. Staining with 7 biotinylated lectins, Con-A, DBA, WGA, RCA, PNA, SBA, and UEA which represent carbohydrates with galactosa-, Nacetylgalactosamine, sialic acid, 2-5 N-acetylglucosamine, -D- mannose, showed various positive reaction in the secretion of the acinar cells depends on the type of lectin and sampling period. The result suggested possiblecorrelation between receptor gonadal hormone with the activity of reproductive and nesting period of walet linchi. Keywords: lectin, Collocalia linchi, salivary gland
LABORATORY ASSESSMENT OF HYDRATION STATUS OF PRE-RUMINANT ETAWAH GOATS WITH DIARRHEA (Penentuan Status Hidrasi secara Laboratoris pada Anak Kambing Peranakan Etawah yang Mengalami Diare)
The objective of this study was to evaluate the invasiveness and persistence of Pasteurella multocida after intratracheal inoculation on turkeys. Four strains of Pasteurella multocida, P-1059, T-325, CU, and M-9 were used in this study and intratracheally (IT) inoculated into turkeys. The number of viable bacteria in the trachea, lung, liver, spleen, and the blood were enumerated during periods of 6 and 9 hrs post inoculation (PI). The result showed that four strains of organism were present in the organ and the tissues observed. In the liver, spleen, and blood, the virulent P-1059 strain showed significant increases within 6 or 9 hrs PI. Strain CU showed significant increase only in the spleen. Two other strains did not show significant increase in any organs; strain M-9, on the other hand, showed significant decrease in the trachea. These results indicated that P-1059 and three other strains showed their ability to invade the tissues or organs when they are intratracheally inoculated
The Total Erythrocyte Count, Hematocrit Value, and Hemoglobin Concentration in Broiler Supplemented With Feed Additive
The aim of this research was to find out the total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration in broiler chicken treated with turmeric, garlic, and zinc supplementation. One hundred broiler chickens were divided intofive groups by randomized and four replications of each. Feed supplement combinations were R0 (basal), R1 (garlic and turmeric), R2 (garlic and zinc), R3 (turmeric and zinc), and R4 (turmeric, garlic and zinc). Blood sample was taken at the age of 6 weeks after treatment to determine total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration. The result showed that total erythrocyte count in group of R3 (turmeric powder 1.5% and zinc oxide 120 ppm) were significantly higher than R0 (P0.05) were 3.320.73x106/l. Total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration groupof R2 and R3 were tended to be higher than R0, meanwhile group of R4 did not different from R0. Feed supplemented with hebal and zink would increase the total erythrocyte count, hematocrit value, and hemoglobin concentration in broiler chicken
Pathogenicity of Eimeria mivati Inoculation in Broiler Chicken
The propagation of E. mivati local strain was used single cell inoculation. The objective of this study was to determine the pathogenicity of Eimeria mivati inoculation in broiler chicken by measuring the growth rate, oocysts production and levels of changes in small intestine. The chickens were devided into two age groups of infection, three and teen days old. Each group was received 1x104, 1x105 and 1x106 oocysts/chick. The chichen were raised in wire cages and sampled accordingly. Data collected was analyzed using analysis of variance. A large number of oocysts production, intestinal villi lesions and depression of growth rate were seen after infection. Most of the peak production of oocysts were accured after the 9th day of infection. However, after the peak production of oocysts, oocysts production decreased extremely. The choice of parasitic development were in the surface epithelial cells of the villi and the region dominantly effected was the third anterior of small intestine. The result revealed no significant differences regarding photogenicity findings (P0.05) between chicken aged three and ten days after infected with E. mivati
Morphological Study of the Oesophagus and Stomach of the Cave Swiflets (Collocalia linchi)
This study was conducted with aim to tend out morphology of oesophagus and stomach of the cave swiflets (Collocalia linchi) at macroscopic and microscopic levels. The data revealed that esophagus was 2.93 cm in length and possessed no crop. The stomach was small and the isthmus was not clear. Mucosa of the esophagus was lined by stratified squoamus epithelium. Esophageal gland was mucous type. The glands were well developed and distributed along the esophagus. The external muscle layer consisted of inner circular and outer longitudinal layers. The stomach could be distinguished into proventriculus and ventriculus with no clear isthmus between them. The mucosa of proventriculus was lined by single columnar epithelium. The ventricular gland area was divided into cardiac, fundic and pyloric gland areas. The surface of ventriculus was lined with cuticula. In general the esophagus and stomach of the cave swiftlets were simple with no crop in the esophagus and isthmus in the stomach. These might be related with the kind of food and feeding behavior of this species
METAL CONTAMINATION OF THREE COMMERCIALLY FISH SPECIES COLLECTED FROM ACEH (INDONESIA) AND PENANG (MALAYSIA)
Concentrations of lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), and copper (Cu) were determined in muscle and liver tissue in the three commercially fish species, the Indian mackerel (Rastrellinger kanagurta), the tuna (Euthynnus affinis), and the tripletail (Lobotes surinamensis) collected from Aceh (Indonesia) and Penang (Malaysia). In this study, metal concentrations were found highest in the liver tissue compared to the muscle for all fish species (P0.05). Concentrations ofmetals in the liver were in the range of 0.05 to 0.4 0g/g dry wt for Pb, from 0.13 to 0.67 0g/g dry wt. for Cd, and 1.17 to 3.54 0g/g dry wt. for Cu. While in the muscle, Pb content were in the range of 0.02 to 0.14 0g/g dry wt.; Cd at below 0.12 0g/g dry wt.; and Cu at below 0.54 0g/g dry wt. On the average, among locations, Pb, Cd, and Cu contamination were found significantly higher (P0.05) in samples collected from Aceh (Indonesia). However, levels of metals in the fish studied were not exceeded the guideline values for food as recommended by Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food, UK and the Ministry of Health Malaysia
MORFOLOGI KELENJAR LUDAH KAMBING, KUCING DAN BABI: DENGAN TINJAUAN KHUSUS PADA DISTRIBUSI DAN KANDUNGAN KARBOHIDRAT (The Morphology of Salivary Glands of Goat, Cat, and Pig: With Special Reference to The Distribution and Carbohydrate Content)
This research aimed to compare the morphology and carbohydrate content of parotid andmandibular glands of goat, cat and pig (herbivore, carnivore and omnivore). The microscopic observationwas done using histochemical method with hematoksilin eosin (HE), alcian blue (AB) pH 2.5 andperiodic acid Schiff (PAS) staining methods. The results showed that the parotid and mandibular glandsconsist of acinar cells and ducts. The parotid gland of goat and pig were serous while mixed in the cat.The mandibular gland of goat, cat and pig were mixed type. The acinar of mandibular gland is composedof serous and mucous cells in which the mucous cell predominates. The AB and PAS stain showed weakto high concentration of acid and neutral carbohydrates found in the mucous cells of mandibular gland. However, these carbohydrates were not found in the serous cells of both glands, while acid carbohydratewas found in the parotid gland of cat. The present result suggested that the carbohydrates in the salivaof the goat, cat and pig might be produced mainly by the mucous cells. Keywords: parotid gland, mandibular gland, PAS, AB pH 2.
