This article assesses if interference over polities is unjust due to its possibility to structurally undermine the freedom of polities. The thesis of this article is that the global processes’ interference over polities is unjust unless it does not violate the principles of self-government. The article makes this claim by introducing the concept of structural invigilation. The article claims that globalization’s interference is unjust even when there is polity consent because globalization’s mere existence is causing the invigilation of polities to occur. However, things can be reversed in the case of a dominating polity, in which case globalization’s domination can actually lead towards the non-domination of citizens. In the last part of the paper, a threshold for judging the justness of interference will be articulated in the form of three conditions based on the principles of self-government, individual and communal autonomy and deliberation.
Preispitivanje knjige Making Policy Move: Ka dekolonijalnoj politici prevođenja
The co-authored book Making Policy Move (Clarke, Bainton, Lendvai and Stubbs 2015) was an attempt to apply insights from theories of translation and assemblage to the field of policy studies. The mantra “when policy moves it is always translated” was based, as much if not more, on postcolonial and decolonial theories as it was on the ‘interpretive turn’ in policy studies and on the idiosyncrasies of Actor Network Theory and the work of Deleuze and Guattari. In this paper, revisiting the book, we suggest that the conceptual, empirical, moral-ethical and political implications of taking colonialism and racism seriously were underdeveloped and we outline, in broad brush stroke terms, some of the ways this could be remedied in future work. We emphasize, in particular, the importance of a politics of translation for understanding coalescing crises, the rise of authoritarian neoliberalism, and the collapse of democracy and the associated rise of techno-politics. We seek to situate reconstituted racialised hierarchies, patriarchal and heteronormative ideologies, and forms of class oppression within policy assemblages co-constituted through colonialism and neo-colonialism.
na postkolonijalnim i dekolonijalnim teorijama, koliko i na „interpretativnom zaokretu“ u studijama politike i na osobenostima teorije aktera-mreže i radova Deleza i Gatarija. U ovom
This article explores translation as a mode of self-making across multiple contexts in which we live. Tracking the modern secular discipline of psychoanalysis in the Global South, we see how its conceptual universe is translated and reshaped here from the lifetime of Freud onwards. We find that, in comparison to all the other forms of modern post-Enlightenment knowledge that entered the Global South, psychoanalysis was one in which the practitioners were most committed to drawing on specific locations in the project of understanding the self. In doing so, psychoanalysis across the Global South offered fundamental challenges to Freud even in his own lifetime, rejecting any idea of a decontextualised human, and often transforming the practice beyond recognition from its incarnation in the land of its birth.
Comparing Fieldnotes, Converging Methodologies: Architectural and Anthropological Perspectives on Socialist-Modernist Mass Housing in New Belgrade
This chapter encompasses an investigation of two interconnected studies of New Belgrade Blocks 22 and 23 conducted by an architect and an anthropologist. Designed and built as a single urban community, these neighbourhoods represent the pinnacle of socialist-modernist mass housing production in Yugoslavia. In the current context of a post-socialist city on the semi-periphery, they share a trajectory of the commodification of residential and public space. Venturing beyond disciplinary conventions, both studies exemplify architectural ethnographies of socialist-modernist mass housing. Conducted independently within a contiguous timeframe, the studies employed complementary methods, such as participant observation, in-depth interviews, photovoice, sensobiographic walking, and graphic storytelling. By comparing and intertwining fieldnotes, this chapter unveils the complexities of housing practices and everyday life in New Belgrade. It highlights the reconceptualisation of the use value and various expressions of privatism. By dissecting and reassembling their insights, but above all, through dialogue and mutual learning, the authors reconsider the porous boundaries of their disciplines and reexamine the contributions of ethnographic methods and visual storytelling to studies of mass housing and material culture

Intergenerational Dialogue Across Technological and Educational Spaces in Learning About Jewish History and Culture
T
he paper discusses the importance of engaging technological and educa
tional spaces in contemporary processes of learning about Jewish history and
culture. The author explores the potentials of merging contemporary technol
ogy with innovative approaches to education, particularly in fostering and im
proving intergenerational and intracommunal dialogues. To analyze the role of
the immersion effect in extended educational realities, as well as its significance
for intergenerational dialogue in small Jewish communities, two case studies
from Serbia are presented and analyzed: the Midrasha project and the Interac
tive Tour of Jewish Belgrade. The exhibited results show the transformational
potential of two different learning programs in the context of extended educa
tional realities at the crossroads of technology and education. These findings
might contribute to further reflections and practices in Jewish education and
education in general, as well as to the encouragement of intergenerational dia
logues
Help me, Doctor AI? A cross-national experiment on the effects of disease threat and stigma on AI health information-seeking intentions
Generative AI chatbots are emerging as novel sources for health information. Adopting a cross-national perspective, this study examines how disease-related factors—namely, disease threat and stigma—influence both individuals' intentions to seek health information via generative AI and their preferences for AI compared to traditional interpersonal sources like doctors and peers. In a preregistered 2x2 online experiment, participants from Austria, Denmark, France, and Serbia (Ntotal = 1951) encountered written scenarios about their health that manipulated disease threat (low vs. high) and stigma (low vs. high). The sample was stratified to ensure representativeness for age, gender, and educational level across the countries studied. Results showed no main effect of disease threat on AI information-seeking intentions, but stigma significantly influenced preferences, particularly in mild health conditions. Participants were more likely to consult AI over peers for stigmatized conditions, highlighting the role of AI's anonymous interface in reducing social judgment. Country differences further revealed that national contexts also shape AI adoption: while participants in Denmark and France showed a stronger preference for AI over peers, those in Serbia and Austria preferred peers over AI. Additionally, AI trust and literacy emerged as the strongest predictors of both AI usage intentions and preferences. These findings indicate that gen AI tools can play a complementary role in the health information ecosystem, particularly for stigmatized conditions and in contexts where traditional sources are perceived as less accessible or judgment-free
The dual impact of virtual reality: examining the addictive potential and therapeutic applications of immersive media in the metaverse
The emergence of the metaverse – envisioned as a hyperreal virtual universe enabling boundless human interaction – has the potential to revolutionize our conception of media. This transformation could alter society as we know it. This paper identifies addictive features of social media, including immersion, interactivity, real-time access, and personalization. These features are examined within the context of virtual reality through a literature review and content analysis, aimed at exploring the potential consequences of metaverse development. From an initial pool of 193,218 documents, a refined selection of N = 44 relevant papers formed the basis of our qualitative analysis. About half of the analyzed papers indicate that these features contribute to VR addiction. Interestingly, the same features that contribute to addictive behaviors can also be harnessed for positive therapeutic interventions of VR, particularly in treating addictions and managing mental health conditions. This duality, observed in the other half of the papers, emphasizes the complex role of VR technologies, suggesting that they can serve as a substitute for other addictions. This phenomenon is placed into the historical context of evolving media technologies that increasingly mimic reality. The complex interplay of factors contributing to addiction necessitates the development of algorithmic solutions that actively curate diverse offerings, rather than promoting a closed loop of like-minded views. Traditional models of addiction should be adapted to address these unique challenges. Finally, the discussion turned to the implications of these findings for a society where the metaverse is widely accepted as a mainstream technology
The Scope of Architectural Contemporaneity: Reference on Display at the First Architecture Biennale in Venice
The first Venice Architecture Biennale offers a particular lens through which
to examine how architectural reference shapes contemporaneity, demonstrating
how exhibitions can reconstitute the discipline both in its practice
and theoretical discourse. The works displayed within the institutional framework
of the exhibition create an architectural presence that draws upon
historical references to define contemporary practice. Reference operates
through the discipline’s accumulated theoretical and practical knowledge;
yet these are traditions that architecture must continually reinterpret and
surpass. This inherent drive toward self-renewal thus defines architectural
contemporaneity. Through the case of the first Venice Architecture Biennale,
this text examines the methodological relationship between the architectural
discipline, reference, and temporality
