Institutions in Action. The Nature and the Role of Institutions in the Real World
This edited volume presents the social ontology of institutions. It questions what institutions are, what features and properties institutions have and what kinds of institution are present in the social world. The book answers these questions from both a speculative and an applied approach, it argues for a specific definition of institutions as a rule-based equilibria, as collective epistemic agent that is characterized by meaning, principles and power and as product of a We-mode and an imposition of a function. This book started from the interdisciplinary conference Playing by the Rules in Rijeka and contains contributions from Philosophy, Sociology and Economy.
Institutions in Action is the first book to offer a comprehensive overview of the many different aspects and accounts about the social ontology of institutions. This much needed book presents researchers a very wide state of the art about the topic of institution by presenting the many differences that emerge in comparing the different positions
The modal logic world of integrative philosophical counseling I
The paper introduces the role of modal logic in integrative philosophical counseling and explores how it differs from the use of standard Aristotelian deductive logic that characterizes most 'traditional' schools of psychotherapy
“Motor of Europe” as a Potential Role Model for the Western Balkans
This chapter focuses on the Franco-German reconciliation and cooperation model as a potential role model for improving the relations and cooperation between Serbia and Croatia. It examines key similarities and differences in the particular socio-historical context of the Western Balkans and today’s dynamics of the EU, which impact the extent to which these two countries can mirror the Franco-German model as “core countries” that could push for reconciliation and regional cooperation within the region. In order to examine the extent and applicability of this model to relations between Serbia and Croatia, the chapter compares the context in which the reconciliation process among these countries took place, with a particular focus on the role of the political leadership, thereby mapping contextual differences that could present potential shortcomings in transferring the lessons learned from the Franco-German model
Physical and moral culture: examining the consideration that students of the Faculty of sport and physical education have towards certain ethical issues of their profession
Biljana Jovanović, a Rebel with a Cause or: On ‘a General Revision of Your Possibilities’
By analysing Yugoslav writer Biljana Jovanović’s early novels, the essay follows
her possible literary speculations on the capacity of the Yugoslav society
to fulfil the promises of the revolution, together with her imagining of an alternative
form of sociability, as that which could result in universal, human
emancipation. Offering a peculiar portrait of the urban society of the late
seventies in Yugoslavia, in her novels Jovanović tests if and how the problem
of women’s emancipation is connected to the problems of class. Yet, a failure
of class emancipation, an ‘impossibility to revise’ the society is antagonized
from the scrupulous and self-confident feminist standpoint
Women writers on the literary left: from proletarian to post-Yugoslav literature
same prakse književne levice, bili nevidljivi. Uz ovaj pokušaj vraćanja diskursa književne
levice u analitički aparat, biće razmotreno i nekoliko novih interpretativnih ‘kriterijuma’,
By interpreting the fiction of Dubravka Ugrešić (1949) and Biljana Jovanović (1953–1996), two Yugoslav and feminist authors whose first prose works coincided with the development of Yugoslav neofeminism and transformations brought by the artistic practices of the Neo-Avant-garde, the paper focused on the possibilities, but also on the relevance of reviving the notion of the literary left. What Aleksandar Flaker theorized as the literature of emphasized social functions, oriented towards “the ultimate goals of the workers’ movement” on one hand, and on the other as the avant-garde aesthetic transformation has been employed as the main axis of the analysis. However, though reflecting some of the ideological-poetic aspects of the dynamic (proletarian vs. avant-garde practices), the literary realities of the two authors also moved this established theoretical paradigm. Whereas Ugrešić’s fiction, which is predominantly read inside the transnational and feminist discourses in fact covers/produces many of the (Neo-)avant-gardists literary structures, Jovanović’s literary world could be theorized as the variation of the proletarian literature, with its specific ideological and aesthetic materialities, and a particular, anti-nostalgic relationship towards the past. Conclusions of the analysis lead to identifying the links among these literary realities and the post-Yugoslav literature, as a possible inheritor of the traditions of the literary left

Engaging with the Politics of Purity: Discerning the Materiality and Semiotics of Risk in Encountering with COVID-19 among Serbia’s Young Professionals
The abrupt break the COVID-19 made on a planetary scope has forced a number of adaptations of collective life, while its mutating nature and enormous ability to spread brought a deterrent effect due to apparent infection risk. Besides an impulse to purify the society from danger that was born in the public, COVID-19 warned that the politics of collective life evolve on level on material living when encountering such a mysterious non-human entity. Our principal intention in this paper follows this puzzle and aims to reflect upon the intrusion of the COVID-19 based on 20 interviews
conducted with young professionals in Belgrade, Serbia. An aim is to discern how it caused semiotic and interpretative confusion, eventually provoking distinct alternations of everyday spaces that now succumbed to a novel hygiene regime. Our understanding follows recent ontological turns that accentuated an intricate continuum of transactions that humans regularly practice through a coexistence with things, as well as fragile semiotic operations and requires focusing on a horizon where this agential interplay occurs. While we underscore ethical motives of actors to pursue official measures against the spread of the virus as significant, we also argue that politics have to be understood as an evaluative and speculative process. Encounter with the COVID-19, namely, has included not only delimiting of an “enemy” that lead to purifying practices, but also adaptation to uncertain, mutating and acting traits of ‘other’. In this way, we seek to turn towards more engaged and practical definition of politics, as situated, materializied endeavor, centered around distribution of agential properties: rights, identities and substances
