Istorijski revizionizam kao osnova nacionalističke ideologije

    No full text
In the last three decades, we have seen a relativization and banalization of the anti-fascist heritage in Serbia. It started after the fall of the second Yugoslavia, which was founded on an anti-fascist value consensus. From the end of the 1980s, systemic and planned elimination of anti-fascist, partisan heritage started in Serbia, while at the same time we can see a rise of nationalism, together with the falsification of history and rehabilitation of the Chetinik collaborationist movement. Milošević’s Serbia was preparing for aggressive conflicts, and there was no room for supranational, anti-fascist, left-wing tradition of the National Liberation Movement, which was based on the principle of true national equality and self-determination of a nation. This is why the issue of anti-fascism is not only connected to the relation towards WWII in Yugoslavia, but also to the relation toward the wars during the 1990s

‘The Relationship between the Logos of Well-Being and Modes of Existence in Maximus the Confessor’

    No full text
The aim of this article is to explore the relationship between the notions of ‘logos of well-being’ and the ‘mode of existence’ in Maximus the Confessor. In pursuing this goal the article addresses the problem of how to understand the logos of well-being, which defines the mode of existence on the one hand and how losely it is bound to the logos of nature on the other hand. Although it is possible to contrast the mode of existence to the logoi embedded in its nature, the question arises as to how one’s mode of existence can be established by acting in accordance with the logos of the individual being as well as universal logoi. In answering this question, I intend to interpret certain scenes from the science-fiction film Annihilation as the backdrop against which the relationship between the logos of well-being and the mode of existence will be portrayed. I will first draw a parallel between Maximus’ expression ‘assimilation of particulars to universals’ and examples of individual beings as a combination of different species and genera that appear in the film. Secondly, I will attempt to demonstrate the uniqueness of the mode of existence by analysing the hypothetical existence of two individual beings that share the same logos of nature and the mode of existence. Thirdly, I will argue that the dispassionate relationship between beings defines one’s mode of existence that in return activate the logoi of one’s nature. The result of this investigation is to demonstrate that by acting in accordance with the logos of well-being, the human being establishes its own mode of existence – one that is always in compliance with the divine will

Discover DaVinci: Blockchain, Art and New Ways of Digital Learning

    No full text
Discover DaVinci is a novel augmented reality system that incorporates blockchain technology with experiential learning to engage participants in an interactive discovery of Leonardo da Vinci’s oeuvre. The software was created by Marko Suvajdzic, first author of this paper, and it was produced at the University of Florida Digital Worlds Institute. In the true spirit of this “Renaissance man”, Discover DaVinci explores new ideas and technologies “ahead of their time”, opening up questions about usage of blockchain system in the domain of art and technology. This paper discusses some of these questions, such as relation of art and technology, usefulness of blockchain system for digital art, and new materiality of art in digital and informational age. Proposed work of this manuscript is to present the field of digital learning through a general review and more specifically through a prism of Discover DaVinci project created by Digital worlds Insititute at the University of Florida

The Reception of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the 21st Century German Academia

    No full text
The aim of the paper is to analyse the views of Klaus Buchenau, Stefan Rohdewald and Ju- lia Anna Lis on the Serbian Orthodox Church. The paper argues that authors form their attitudes towards Serbia and the Serbian Orthodox Church along the lines of the German press, which portrays the Serbian Church as nationalistic, violent, bigoted and backward. The paper embarks on the task to investigate the motifs of the authors for such negative views on the Serbian Church, by arguing that authors build their scholarly constructs on the political narratives of global Western dominance on the one hand, and on the revision of German historical responsibility for the two world wars on the other hand

Važnost Pjera Burdijea danas. O pristanku na bedu

This article reflects on the crisis of political reason in this heyday of populistic rhetoric, proposing to move beyond the erroneous dichotomy between “democratic reason” and “raging passions,” and the demo-phobia that often derives from it. We propose instead to follow Bourdieu’s footsteps in bringing our attention to the forms of impermeability that fracture our contemporary political and social life, establishing the conditions of possibility of the reasonable and the unreasonable. What marks contemporary political passions as particularly dangerous is their impermeability to the lessons of our historical past, to the moral condemnation of the political instrumentalization of difference and to the sacred character of fundamental principles. This hermeneutical gap, however, is later explained by a more fundamental analysis of the problem of contemporary impermeability, one which operates as a reversal of the dichotomy between political reason and passion. It is no longer the electorate, seduced by the sirens of populism, which is impermeable to the voice of political reason; it is, instead, this very reason, embodied by the elites who claim to recognize themselves in its values and principles, which has become impermeable to the “conditions of non-existence” in which a considerable part of the population lives. If there is a problem of contemporary impermeability, or imperturbability, it is that of a political discourse that has lost touch with “all the misery of the world”.Članak se fokusira na krizu političkog razuma u dobu procvata populističke retorike i predlaže odmak od pogrešne podvojenosti između „demokratskog razuma“ i „besnih strasti“, odnosno demofobije koja iz njih često proizlazi.

Neo-National Romanticism in Serbian Education: Comparing Romantic- -National and Recent Serbian History Textbooks

    No full text
This paper investigates the influence of a neo-romantic national model of education and the extent to which it resurfaced in Serbia after the breakup of communism as the official Yugoslav ideology and the rise of nationalism from the 1990s onwards. In the first part of this paper, we will outline a Romantic-national concept of education as it has been in use in Serbia. Even though the education of students in the spirit of nationalism has a long history, nation-oriented educational policy – which already proved productive in Italy and Germany – started being systematically employed in Serbia only after the full international recognition of its independence in 1878 and the process of modernization that followed it. The reform of the educational system that followed in 1882 saw the introduction of mandatory education and was an integral part of that process. Given that according to contemporary Serbian pedagogues, such as Stojan Novaković, education in the age of nations should likewise be national, school as a vital social institution has become one of the key factors of this form of education, as elsewhere in Europe at the time. In addition, reports from discussions and debates regarding curriculums and school programmes exemplify that Serbian teachers and their associations held similar views. In the pre-WWI Serbian textbooks, the pupils were thereby taught that language is the basic and obvious proof of common origin and past, that the nation is a natural form of grouping of people, and that all those speaking the same language wish to – and should – live in their national state. These tendencies will be examined and illustrated by the History Reader of Mihailo Јоvić, which occupies a privileged place in Serbian pedagogy as one of the most lasting textbooks in the Serbian educational history overall. Written in 1882 during the aforementioned educational reform, Jović’s textbook served as the absolutely dominant history schoolbook prior to WWI, remained in use throughout the interwar years and even during WWII, and had dozens of editions. In the second part of the paper, we compare these Romantic-national ideas of education with the current Serbian history readers for primary and secondary schools. In particular, we compare how historical events that promoted fixed national identity in the Romantic textbooks are presented in the contemporary ones. Do the current ones advance critical or celebratory views towards the tradition? Does the selection of events and their depiction employed in the current textbooks advance critical and international spirit or still (implicitly) promote Romantic values, and what does it tell us about (former and current) Serbian educational system

Did Saint Gregory Palamas Teach The Development Of The Doctrine?

    No full text
The paper examines whether St Gregory Palamas could be attributed with teaching some sort of the doctrinal development. That this is the case has been argued in various forms by theologians and scholars of the 20th century, both those who have criticized Palamas and those who have often been regarded as representatives of what is called the Neo-Palamite theology of the Orthodox Church. Such thesis has relied heavily on his use of the term anaptyxis in the Tomos of the 1351. Synod. In the paper it is argued that such self-understanding of his relation to the patristic tradition cannot be justified by textual evidence. Through the analysis of the Tomos of 1341, his polemical writings against Gregory Akindynos and the Tomos of 1351 it is shown that Palamas consistently presented his own teaching as a faithful exposition of the words of the Holy Fathers rather than their development
