    No full text

    No full text
Suprotno fukoovskoj tradiciji, sociološka analiza diskursa predstavljena ovde podvlači važnost socijalnih aktera u društvenoj produkciji i cirkulaciji znanja i saznanja. Drugim rečima, ona koristi čisto metodološka oruđa u kvalitativnim istraživanjima u društvenim naukama, posebno neke koncepte proizašle iz sociologije saznanja (interpretativne šeme, klasifikacije, fenomenske strukture, narativne strukture) i „usidrenoj teoretizaciji“

Neurednost pobede i junaštva. Kratak odgovor Karlu Šmitu

    No full text
The article focuses on a passage from Carl Schmitt’s Ex Captivitate Salus – a book famously written in a Nurnberg prison in 1946 – in which he draws, from memory, on a story derived from Serbian epic poetry, to justify his understanding of historiography, victory, and the figure of the hero. Analyzing the entire Serbian epic poem from which Schmitt extracts the vignette in question, we show how the text of the poem presents a significantly more complicated and messy picture of the figures of victor, victory, and hero, heroism. The anonymous Serbian poet, addressing himself to his contemporary audience, with which he is intimately familiar, really subverts simplistic expectations regarding the heroism and victory of the Serbian hero, Marko Kraljević. Finally, the article contrasts these complex and at times paradoxical figures of victory and the hero in the poem with their presentation in Carl Schmitt’s writing.U članku se dovodi u pitanje jedan pasus iz knjige Ex Captivitate Salus, Karla Šmita – knjige koja je, kao što je poznato, pisana u nirnberškom zatvoru u Nemačkoj, 1946. godine.

Knowledge Versus Production: Michel Serres and Idiosyncratic Roads of Education

    No full text
The paper examines two conflicting societal functions of education: on the one hand, education can work to reproduce the existing power relations, indoctrinate students, and assimilate them into the existing social order, but on the other hand, it can also contribute to the emancipation of students and the society as a whole. By contrasting the emancipatory function with the ideological one, I aim to clarify the meaning of individual and social emancipation drawing on the Enlightenment tradition, locate the main ideological forces opposing it in the field of education, as well as suggest some ways in which they can be resisted. First, I will explore the core emancipatory educational ideas of the Enlightenment based on three key texts: Rousseau’s Emile, Kant’s “What is Enlightenment?” and Freire’s Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Next, I will examine the ideological function of education, in particular of neoliberal education, in order to discern the main ways in which contemporary ideology works through education. Based on insights gained, I will suggest several main lines of resistance, capable of strengthening the emancipatory function of education and countering the ideological one in contemporary neoliberal societies. In the concluding discussion, I will respond to the critics arguing that the Enlightenment ideal had itself become ideological and had instrumentalized education (Biesta 2008; Osberg & Biesta 2020), which will lead me to make a conceptual distinction between ideology and ideal

Systematic and Historical Reading of the Fathers: The Case of Thomas F. Torrance

    No full text
It has been noted that Thomas F. Torrance read and interpreted the Holy Fathers not as a patristic scholar, but as a systematic theologian. Furthermore, the point is made that we ought not to blame him for making occasional interpretations of the patristic texts that cannot be supported by strict textual evidence because his goal was never to engage in the historical endeavor but the systematic one. I argue that ‘systematic reading’ cannot be an excuse for arbitrary interpretations of the patristic texts and that every systematic reading must be firmly grounded in the historical explorations of the texts. I examine three cases in which Torrance’s reading of the patristic texts cannot be supported by patristic scholarship: development of what he calls ‘kataphysic mode of inquiry’ by Clement of Alexandria and Athanasius of Alexandria, and of the relational concept of space in Athanasius of Alexandria. I conclude by suggesting what might constitute the difference between the two approaches to patristic theology and the way the relation between the two might be developed

Kulturna potrošnja i proizvodnja kroz prizmu poluperiferijalnosti

    No full text
This paper analyses the theoretical and the epistemological contribution of the semi - peripheral approach developed in the work of Marina Blagojević Hughson to the contemporary sociological study of cultural production and consumption. The first part of the paper presents characteristics of the semiperipheral approach of Blagojević Hughson with special reference to the relationship between the theory of semiperipherality and postcolonial sociology. The second part of the paper examines the cognitive and theoretical benefits of the concept of semiperiphery as Blagojevic had articulated it, in terms of research in the field of sociology of culture. On the example of the most significant research projects in the field of sociology of cultural consumption and cultural production, it is examined what implementation of semiperipheral perspective brings in these research areas. It argued that the semiperipheral approach enables more adequate research of various cultural phenomena and attitudes towards objects and phenomena from the sphere of culture, not only in the form of precise mapping of differences between these phenomena in the centre, semiperiphery, and periphery, but it also encourages critical interpretation of cultural and symbolic elements of the social order in the context of the global distribution of power. Advantages of using the semiperipheral approach are reflected on a conceptual level - on the one hand in the form of a critical approach to the conceptual apparatus developed in research conducted at the centre, and on the other hand in encouraging original theoretical development on the semiperiphery

Party Politics and the State of Emergency: Behaviour of Political Parties during the Coronavirus Pandemic

    No full text
The Coronavirus crisis has laid bare both the strengths as well as the weaknesses of political systems, democratic institutions and the political parties throughout the region, mirroring the real state of democracy on the ground. The already weakened democratic institutions have deteriorated even further, and the fragile checks and balances systems have demonstrated their inefficiency in practice. Political leaders rarely managed to resist the temptation to use the unprecedented opportunity of power up for grabs, misusing restrictive measures as a convenient instrument to strengthen the position of government and weaken political opposition

Spinoza i stoici: moralno dobro i „život u saglasnosti sa prirodom“

    No full text
The author draws a parallel between the Stoics’ and Spinoza’s understanding of moral good and values in general, and their understanding of „living in agreement with nature”. It is indicated that the difference between the Stoics and Spinoza is slight when it comes to issues discussed in this paper. Spinoza, like the Stoics, held that moral good could be merely useful and that it is found in „living in agreement with nature”
