SHAALA-22: Construction, psychometric characteristics and validation of questionnaire for academic self-handicapping
Academic self-handicaping (ASH) referes to usage of self-handicapping strategies in
order to preserve self-esteem by externalizing the causes that could lead to potential
failure in academic context. The aim of this study was to validate the SHAALA-22
which intends to measure ASH. The items were generated to reflect the most frequently
disscussed ASH strategies found in the literature. Convergent validity was tested with
instruments HEXACO-60 (specifically, with Conscientiousness), Self-Liking and
Self-Competence Scale (SLCS, 16 items) and Self-Handicap Assessment Questionnare (SH, 34 items) which assesses four types of self-handicapping (External handicaps in interpersonal relationships (EIR), Internal handicaps in interpersonal relationships (IIR), Internal handicaps in achievement situations (IAS), External handicaps in
achievement situations (EAS)). Divergent validity was tested by correlation analysis
with the traits of Honesty, Emotionality, Agreeableness, Extraversion, and Openness.
Regarding diagnostic validity, we expected no differences between males and females,
but expected that pupils would have higher scores than students on SHAALA-22.
Subjects were recruited using the snowball method. Total of 249 participants (69.9 %
female), aged 15-51 years (M = 19.35, SD = 3.31), completed the questionnaires. The
method conducted for exploratory factor analysis was Principal components analysis
by the means of which we identified one component that accounts for 27.85 % of
total variance. Factor analysis indicated that it’s justified to use the total score on the
instrument (α = .871, KMO = .933, H2 = .626). The following significant correlations were obtained between the summary score of SHAALA-22 and the subscales of
the used instruments: with Conscientiousness (r = -.532, p < .01), with Honesty (r =
-.234, p < .01), with Extraversion (r = -.241, p < .01), with Agreeableness (r = -.141,
p < .05), with Self-Liking (r = -.342, p < .01), with Self-Competence (r = -.432, p <
.01), with EIR (r = .267, p < .01), with IIR (r = .273, p < .01), with IAS (r = .64, p <
.01), with EAS (r = .409, p < .01). No significant differences in ASH were observed
between males and females, nor between students and pupils. The obtained results
indicate good psychometric characteristics of the test and confirm its convergent and
discriminant validity, opening new theoretical and practical questions related to this

What makes millennials blow the whistle? From cultural to socio-psychological perspectives on whistleblowers
Whistleblowing cases that shook intelligence community in the last decade
have something in common. Edward Snowden, Bradley Manning, and Reality Winner are
all members of a single generation – Millennials. We challenge the viewpoint that depicts
this generation as а potential “insider threat.” Millennials do have certain psychological traits
and attitudes that can be related to tendencies towards whistleblowing, but these findings
still do not approve the rhetoric that creates distrust towards the generation. This paper
proposes a shift from the cultural to the socio-psychological level of analysis, with respect
to both cultural and individual characteristics of whistleblowers, but puts more emphasis
on the social dimension. In comprehending recent cases of leaking classified information,
it is not enough to reduce explanation to some individual personality traits or hide behind
an abstraction, such as the concept of generation. To shed more light on the issue, we
introduce the concept of the imagined community, such as the open source community,
promoting free Internet and transparency of information and knowledge. Therefore, mental
membership in an imagined community might be more decisive for blowing the whistle
than the global set of values related to the whole generation of Millennials
Neuromarketing unmasked: a review of current state in the field [Neuromarketing razotkriven - pregled trenutnog stanja u području]
Neuromarketing showed up as a new interdisciplinary field that bridges neuroscience and marketing. A relatively young field that was born within the “neuroculture” matrix is covered with a veil of mystery and often misrepresented in the media as a powerful tool used by corporations to manipulate consumers’ preferences, purchasing behavior, etc. In this paper, we have done an extensive literature review in order to put light on some dilemmas and take off the veil of mystery that surrounds neuromarketing. Firstly, (i) we discussed the definition and context in which neuromarketing emerged, (ii) important brain areas in consumer neuroscience which find their application in neuromarketing research, (iii) techniques used in neuromarketing (neuroimaging and nonneuroimaging), (iv) ethical issues in the field of neuromarketing (a part of neuroethics), and (v) limitations and recommendations for future development of neuromarketing
O problemima filozofije vrednosti: Hajnrih Rikert u poređenju sa Romanom Ingardenom
The article looks at the concept of value in Heinrich Rickert’s philosophy of value and attempts a systematic study of this concept in the context of the fundamental problems in Roman Ingarden’s ontology of value. The result is a systematised presentation of Rickert’s notion of value and a series of conclusions concerning fundamental aspects of his philosophy of culture. The essential discrepancy that the comparison reveals concerns the formal character of Rickert’s philosophy of values, which implies a great deal of openness and freedom in the understanding and implementation of values. Another fundamental difference exposed by Ingarden concerns the ontological status of values
Eutopija i angažovanost danas
The contemporary conceptions of universal basic income (by Guy Standing), tax havens extraction (by Gabriel Zucman), and climate emergency (by Christiana Figueres) are briefly presented in the form of exposition in Massive Attack’s Eutopia EP. These conceptions address the most concerning issues of today’s world, while the concept of eutopia, proposed by Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja and Mark Donne, represents “a place of well-being, as a practical aspiration,” a realistic utopia in which those issues are resolved. The present paper discusses the conceptions presented in Eutopia, assessing the possibility of the materialisation of eutopia. As suggested by Massive Attack, the ideas of Eutopia can be traced back to More’s Utopia, being rooted in a humanistic endeavour of improving humanity, inspiring engagement and search for a better and just society. Apart from discussing Eutopia, the paper explores Another Now, the political science-fiction novel by Yanis Varoufakis. Varoufakis’ critique of capitalism and the alternative he proposes in the novel Another Now argue along the same line as Eutopia, encouraging engagement in today’s world.Savremene koncepcije univerzalnog osnovnog prihoda (Gaj Stending), poreskih rajeva (Gabrijel Zukman) i klimatskog vanrednog stanja (Kristijana Figeres) kratko su predstavljene u formi izlaganja u EP Eutopia muzičkog sastava Massive Attack.
2022 Elections in Serbia: The Return of the Opposition?
The 2022 elections in Serbia have not produced surprising results, nor led to changes of government at any level, with the ruling Serbian Progressive Party maintaining its dominance of Serbian politics. The elections were, however, important, as a point in which the opposition parties ended the boycott of democratic institutions and returned to the parliament. In this election analysis, we describe the political context of the elections, marked by the long-term democratic backsliding, the Covid-19 pandemic measures, the constitutional referendum, mass environmental protest mobilization, and finally the invasion of Ukraine. We explain the ways in which the institutional framework for holding elections has changed and also what has remained unchanged, and how these circumstances affected the candidates and their campaigns. We provide an overview of opinion polls before election day, as well as results of parliamentary, presidential, and Belgrade city elections, and then discuss the election outcomes. The analysis concludes with an overview of post-election political dynamics and discusses possibilities for the opposition parties after their return to the aforementioned representative bodies
