Concerns About Research Ethics in COVID-19 Publications
The need to know more about COVID-19 (coronavirus disease-2019) has led to a rapid increase in scientific publications on this virus in a short period of time. Rapidity in publishing can accelerate the achievement of the ultimate goal of answering our questions about COVID-19 but there may be concerns. One of our concerns is the carelessness to research ethics in COVID-19 studies, which may sacrifice research ethics for high-speed publishing. In this article, we address some of the concerns about research ethics in the study of COVID-1
Sustainable management of saline oily wastewater via forward osmosis using aquaporin membrane
The hypothesis that petrochemical oily wastewater containing high amounts of total dissolved solids (TDS), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total organic carbon (TOC) can be effectively treated by a new biomimetic forward osmosis (FO) membrane for fertigation purposes was assessed. The biomimetic FO membrane was characterized, and its intrinsic properties were evaluated. The fertilizer-driven FO (FDFO) process was evaluated in terms of water flux (WF), reverse solute flux (RSF), specific RSF (SRSF), and oil rejection at various draw solution (DS) concentrations and cross-flow velocities. Under optimized conditions, deionized water was used as feed and 3 M KCl, the most widely used potassium fertilizer, was used as DS at a cross-flow velocity of 0.1 m·s−1. WF and RSF of 67.22 Lm-2 h−1 and 48.3 gm−2 h−1, respectively, were obtained. Using saline oily wastewater as the feed, the orientation of the feed facing the membrane support layer exhibited a lower WF due to oily layer fouling within the membrane support. Apart from almost complete rejections of organic chemicals, the biomimetic FO membrane demonstrated a better performance (WF = 11.31 Lm−2 h−1) than the typical polyamide thin film composite (TFC) membrane (WF = 5.23 Lm−2 h−1) during mid-term fouling tests. This study demonstrates that FO process is an effective strategy for sustainable management of hazardous petrochemical oily wastewater by recycling the diluted fertilizer solution for direct fertigation without further treatment
Is salt intake reduction a universal intervention for both normotensive and hypertensive people: a case from Iran STEPS survey 2016
Purpose: There is a direct association between salt intake and blood pressure (BP), one of the main risk factors for CVDs. However, yet there has been a debate that how strong is this association in people with and without hypertension. This study was conducted to evaluate the magnitude of the association between salt intake and BP in hypertensive and normotensive population among a nationally representative population. Methods: The study was conducted on a nationally representative sample of 18,635 Iranian adults aged 25 years and older who participated in the STEPS survey 2016 and provided urine sample. Salt intake was estimated through spot urine sample and Tanaka equation. Multiple linear regression model in survey data analysis was used to assess the independent effect of salt intake on BP. Results: After adjusting for covariates, there was a significant association between salt intake and SBP in hypertensive (p ' 0.001) and normotensive people (p ' 0.001). In hypertensive people, with 1 g of increase in salt intake, the SBP and DBP increased 0.37 mmHg and 0.07 mmHg, respectively. Whereas in normotensive people, with 1 g of increase in salt intake, the SBP and DBP increased 0.26 mmHg and 0.05 mmHg, respectively. Moreover, there was a significant trend toward an increase of SBP across salt intake quartiles in both hypertensive (p ' 0.001) and normotensive people (p = 0.002), though the slope was steeper in hypertensive than in normotensive people. Conclusions: The present study demonstrated that salt intake significantly increased SBP in both hypertensive and normotensive people, though the magnitude of this increase was greater in hypertensive people as compared with normotensive people
Synthesis and characterization of γ-Fe2O3 encapsulated NaY zeolites as solid adsorbent for degradation of ceftriaxone through heterogeneous catalytic advanced oxidation processes
Abstract: The degradation of ceftriaxone (CTX) by heterogeneous catalytic advanced oxidation processes has been explored using γ-Fe2O3 NaY zeolites synthesized (γ-Fe2O3@NaY) in the laboratory through hydrothermal and chemical co-precipitation methods. γ-Fe2O3@NaY zeolite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffractometer analyses. The effects of the initial concentration of CTX and catalyst, pH and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) dose with the presence UV light on the degradation efficiency of CTX have been studied by conducting experiments in a batch reactor at room temperature. Experimental results reveal that CTX can be efficiently removed after 90 min at pH 4.0, CTX 20 mg/L, catalyst 1.17 g/L, H2O2 30 mM and presence of UV light. A kinetic and isotherm model was developed for investigation of the adsorption mechanism, and results show that model and data are in good agreement. The reusability of γ-Fe2O3@NaY was high as it degrades CTX in the presence of UV light and H2O2 even after five consecutive cycles. Also, due to having magnetic properties, this composite is easily separated from the solution by magnetism. This work indicates that bench synthesized γ-Fe2O3 NaY zeolite is a heterogeneous recoverable catalyst that can efficiently remove CTX from wastewater. Anesthetic toxic isoflurane and health risk assessment in the operation room in Abadan, Iran during 2018
Introduction: Anesthetic gases are very important for health among health care worker (HCWs) and patients in medical centers. Operating rooms (ORs) is the most important ward that use anesthetic gases. Isoflurane gases is very dangerous for HCWs. Objective: In this study, we have associated the concentration of anesthetic toxic isoflurane gases (ppm) and the health risk assessment due to exposure to common anesthetic gases in Valiasr and Shahid Beheshti teaching hospital operating room during 2018. Methods: In this study, we used the active sampling system by portable pump SKC and tubes (sorbent Tube Tenax TA 250 mg) for detection of isoflurane concentration (ppm). Different points of the operating rooms were selected for sampling. Hazard index (HI) quantified by calculating the non-cancer causing anesthetic toxic isoflurane gases. Results: According result this study, the Valiasr and Shahid Beheshti had the lowest and the highest level of isoflurane. Based on result this study, level of isoflurane on indoor air quality in the operation room in Valiasr and Shahid Beheshti hospital were 2.129 and 2.436 ppm, respectively. According to the results from the current study, hazard index was under 1.0 and it amount showed that no significant risk of adverse health endpoint attributed to exposure to level of isoflurane in Valiasr and Shahid Beheshti teaching hospital operating room during 2018. Conclusion: According Result this study the average concentration of isoflurane and the health risk assessment in Valiasr and Shahid Beheshti teaching hospital operating room during 2018 because of flaw in the ventilation system was significantly higher than standard

Precision medicine approach in prostate cancer
Prostate cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer and the second cause of death in men worldwide. Various diagnostic and treatment procedures are available for this type of malignancy, but High-grade or locally advanced prostate cancers showed the potential to develop to lethal phase that can be causing dead. Therefore, new approaches are needed to prolong patients’ survival and to improve their quality of life. Precision medicine is a novel emerging field that plays an essential role in identifying new sub-classifications of diseases and in provid-ing guidance in treatment that is based on individual multi-omics data. Multi-omics approaches include the use of genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, epigenomics and phenomics data to unravel the complex-ity of a disease-associated biological network, to predict prognostic biomarkers, and to identify new targeted drugs for individual cancer patients. We review the impact of multi-omics data in the framework of systems biology in the era of precision medicine, emphasising the combination of molecular imaging modalities with high-throughput techniques and the new treatments that target metabolic pathways involved in prostate cancer
Coping styles with stress in nursing and midwifery students
In the present year, attention has been paid to the nursing and midwifery students, especially when it comes to stress and coping strategies. Understanding the coping styles offered by students enables college officials to become aware of the needs of their pupils, the guidelines, and the training of their counterparts. This study aimed to systematically review on coping with stress in nursing and midwifery students was done. Data searches were conducted using stress keywords, coping styles, and nursing and midwifery students. The sites under study were database of Iranian Medical Sciences Articles (IranMedex), Scientific Database (SID) Pub Med, Mag Iran,, Scopus. The search of the above mentioned database was carried out from July to September 2019.Nineteen studies were studied with the aim of investigating the relationship between stress and aggression in nursing and midwifery students. Finally, the types of coping styles in nursing and midwifery students were examined in three areas of problem-centered, emotion-focused and avoidant. In general, the use of emotion-focused styles was more than problem-focused responses, while the use of such styles had a transient role in reducing stress. Therefore, it is suggested that educational managers and planners consider promoting problem-focused coping skills in students
Fabrication, characterization and in vivo evaluation of dexpanthenol sustained-release nanofibers for wound healing
In this study, wound dressings consisting of dexpanthenol (Dex)-loaded electrospun nanofibers were fabricated using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA), and chitosan as the core and the shell, respectively. Considering the remarkable properties of chitosan, it was used as a shell against drug release and to improve the thermal stability, and tensile strength of the scaffold. By comparing the thermogravimetric, and tensile strength results of nanofibers with and without shell, it was revealed that the presence of chitosan in the shell side could improve the thermal stability and increased the tensile strength by about three times. The isotherm models of dexpanthenol release from the PVA/SA/Dex-CS scaffold was best described by the Langmuir model. Besides, Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction techniques were performed to characterize nanofibers. Furthermore, an in vivo investigation of a wound dressing with dexpanthenol showed better healing compared to the wound dressings without dexpanthenol
