    “Steps are taken that homogenize women”: a critical approach to social intervention with victims of gender-based violence

    En este artículo nos acercamos desde la crítica feminista a las intervenciones sociales con mujeres víctimas de violencias de género. Así, con una metodología cualitativa basada en cinco entrevistas semiestructuradas a trabajadoras sociales que trabajan en el campo de las violencias de género, rescatamos sus reflexiones acerca de su trabajo. En sus testimonios critican la infantilización de las mujeres, su homogeneización y reivindican la necesidad de ampliar la mirada acerca de lo que, en el contexto del estado español, venimos entendiendo por violencia de género. Siguiendo esta senda, las trabajadoras sociales entrevistadas nos comparten su frustración por encontrarse en un ámbito donde no solo carecen de recursos, sobre todo económicos y habitacionales, pero también formativos para las profesionales; aunque se desarrollen estrategias de resistencia que conectan con lo comunitario. Aspecto este que enfatizan como una forma de incluir la interseccionalidad y, por ende, la heterogeneidad y particularidad de las situaciones, en los abordajes sociales, abriendo caminos hacia la reparación y no solo al castigo.In this article we approach social interventions with female victims of gender-based violence from a feminist critical perspective. Using a qualitative methodology based on five semi-structured interviews with social workers working in the field of gender violence, we examine their reflections on their work. These social workers criticize the infantilization and homogenization of women and describe the need to broaden the view of what we have come to understand as gender-based violence in the Spanish context. In this regard, the interviewees share their frustration at working in a field where they lack resources – especially financial and housing, but also in terms of professional training – despite the development of resistance strategies that connect with the community. This last aspect is emphasized as a way of including intersectionality and, therefore, heterogeneity and the particular features of each situation, into social approaches, opening up paths to redress and not merely punishment.Proyecto de investigación de la Universidad de Granada (PID2023-148552OB-I00

    Effectiveness of a Nature Sports Program on Burnout Among Nursing Students: A Clinical Trial

    Background/Objectives: Academic burnout is an emerging problem among nursing students, characterized by emotional exhaustion, cynicism, and reduced academic efficacy. Sports interventions have been shown to have a positive effect on nurses as a preventive strategy against burnout. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a nature sports program on the levels of academic burnout in nursing students. Methods: A randomized clinical trial was performed. The intervention was a 12-week nature exercise program with two sessions each week. The main dependent variables were burnout (measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory—Student Survey), stress (measured using the Perceived Stress Scale), and anxiety and depression (measured using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). The post-intervention sample size was n = 58 in the control group and n = 48 in the intervention group. Results: After the intervention, significant differences were found in respect of emotional exhaustion (p < 0.001; Cohen’s D: 0.483), stress (p < 0.05; Cohen’s D: 0.456), and mean steps per day (p < 0.001; Cohen’s D: −1.09), with the mean values being reduced in the intervention group by around three points in emotional exhaustion and stress; the intervention group also achieved a higher mean number of daily steps compared to the control group.     A gene expression and a histostructural analysis of the palmar fascia of patients affected by Dupuytren's disease

Supplemental data for this article can be accessed online at https://doi.org/10.1080/03008207.2025.2522860Purpose: Dupuytren's disease (DD) is a condition affecting the palmar fascia that may reduce the mobility of several fingers. Despite its clinical relevance, the genetic and structural mechanisms associated with this disease are still not well understood. In this work, we have carried out a genome-wide gene expression analysis to identify relevant genes associated with DD. Methods: A genome-wide gene expression analysis was carried out using next generation sequencing (NGS) followed by a histological, histochemical and immunohistochemical analysis of some major components of the palmar fascia in 26 DD patients and 17 control subjects without the disease (CTR). Results: We found 237 genes or sequences differentially expressed between DD and CTR, with those genes corresponding to several gene pathways and functions related to contractility, development and morphogenesis, differentiation, extracellular matrix (ECM), migration and ossification. In turn, the histological analysis confirmed that DD tissues showed a disorganized ECM, with nonaligned fibers, and abundant cells were found scattered along the whole tissue. CTR showed significantly higher amounts of proteoglycans revealed by alcian blue, along with versican, keratan-sulfate, myoglobin, tropomyosin 3, filamin C and titin, whereas DD showed significantly enriched in collagen fibers, especially collagens type-I and V, MMP-14, S-100, tubulin-beta, SMA and tenascin C, with disorganization of the elastic fibers. Conclusions: In general, these results confirm that a significant alteration of the tissue organization, extracellular matrix and structure is related to DD.     Inventing Numerical Sentences and Stories to Evidence the Development of Algebraic Thinking

    En este artículo nos proponemos responder a qué conocimientos algebraicos se evidencian cuando un grupo de estudiantes de 9-10 años inventan sentencias numéricas e historias matemáticas, y qué aportes ofrecen estas tareas al desarrollo del pensamiento algebraico desde las dimensiones estructural y analítica. Analizamos las respuestas de estudiantes de estas edades, prestando atención a las operaciones y propiedades involucradas, los significados del signo igual y cómo se refieren y razonan sobre cantidades desconocidas. Los resultados muestran que el alumnado inventa sentencias que involucran números y cantidades desconocidas, apoyándose en diferentes propiedades de las operaciones y evidenciando comprensiones relacionales del signo igual. Al inventar historias, relacionan las cantidades desconocidas con situaciones cotidianas y plantean historias coherentes con la ecuación dada. Discutimos el rol que tiene la invención de problemas en la construcción del pensamiento algebraico en los primeros cursos de la educación primaria.In this article, we aim to address the following research questions: What algebraic understandings are evidenced when a group of 9-10-year-old students invent numerical sentences and mathematical stories? And what contributions do these tasks make to the development of algebraic thinking from both structural and analytical perspectives? We analyse students' responses by focusing on the operations and properties involved, the meanings attributed to the equal sign, and the ways in which students refer to and reason about unknown quantities. The results show that students invent sentences involving numbers and unknown quantities, drawing on different properties of operations and demonstrating relational understandings of the equal sign. When inventing stories, they relate unknown quantities to everyday situations and construct narratives that are coherent with the given equation.     Digital Marketing Plan for Instagram of “Descubre Granada Rural”: Promoting Rural Tourism in Granada

    En este Trabajo de Fin de Máster (TFM) se presenta el desarrollo de un plan de marketing digital enfocado en incrementar la visibilidad de pueblos rurales a través de Instagram. Para centrar las estrategias se han elegido cinco pueblos de la provincia de Granada: Pampaneira, Carataunas, Lanjarón, Güéjar Sierra y La Calahorra. El objetivo principal es lograr aumentar la visibilidad de estos pueblos rurales de Granada a partir del desarrollo de estrategias de marketing digital centradas en la promoción a través de la red social Instagram. El plan se estructura en distintas fases. En primer lugar, se lleva a cabo un análisis exhaustivo de la situación actual del mercado turístico y del turismo rural en España y se identifican las tendencias emergentes. A continuación, se desarrolla un análisis de la competencia prestando especial atención a distintos ejemplos de promoción del turismo rural en canales digitales y se identifican las estrategias más eficaces. Para el análisis de la competencia se revisan de manera exhaustiva seis páginas webs y once perfiles de Instagram dedicados a la promoción del turismo rural de Granada. Además, se amplía la información a partir de la creación de una encuesta en Google Forms que se lanzará a usuarios para obtener su opinión acerca de la usabilidad y contenido de las plataformas de promoción de turismo rural. Se realiza también un estudio del entorno externo e interno que influye en el plan de marketing y se establece un público objetivo explorando su comportamiento. El plan de marketing incluye un análisis CANVA y DAFO, el desarrollo de una imagen corporativa para un perfil de Instagram denominado Descubre Granada Rural, que abarca la creación de un logotipo, así como la definición de la misión y valores. Finalmente, se elabora un plan de acción orientado a desarrollar, implementar y evaluar las estrategias de marketing planteadas para este Trabajo de Fin de Máster (TFM). En primer lugar, se realiza un análisis CAME, con el objetivo de identificar las estrategias más efectivas y establecer un enfoque frente a la competencia. A continuación, se detallan las estrategias de publicación implementadas para Instagram, incluyendo ejemplos concretos del contenido publicado, Se diseña un calendario de publicaciones con la finalidad de garantizar una regularidad en la frecuencia y diversidad de contenido. Para evaluar la efectividad de las estrategias implementadas se definen cinco indicadores claves del rendimiento (KPIs) y se realiza un monitoreo exhaustivo durante tres meses.This Master's Thesis (TFM) presents the development of a digital marketing plan focused on increasing the visibility of rural villages through Instagram. To focus the strategies, five towns in the province of Granada have been chosen: Pampaneira, Carataunas, Lanjarón, Güéjar Sierra and La Calahorra. The main objective is to increase the visibility of these rural towns in Granada through the development of digital marketing strategies focused on the promotion through the social network Instagram. The plan is structured in different phases. Firstly, an exhaustive analysis of the current situation of the tourism market and rural tourism in Spain is carried out and the emerging trends are identified. Next, an analysis of the competitors is carried out, paying special attention to different examples of rural tourism promotion on digital channels (web pages and social networks) and identifying the most effective strategies. For this analysis, six websites and eleven Instagram profiles dedicated to the promotion of rural tourism in Granada are exhaustively reviewed. Furthermore, the information is extended by the creation of a survey on Google Forms that will be launched to users to obtain their information about the usability and content of the platforms for the promotion of rural tourism. A study of the external and internal environment that affects the marketing plan is also carried out and a target audience is established by exploring their behaviour. The marketing plan includes a CANVA and SWOT analysis, the development of a corporate image for an Instagram profile called Descubre Granada Rural, which includes the creation of a logo, as well as the definition of the mission and values. Finally, an action plan is drawn up to develop, implement and evaluate the marketing strategies proposed for this Master’s Thesis (TFM). Firstly, a CAME analysis is carried out, with the aim of identifying the most effective strategies and establishing a competitive approach. Next, the publication strategies for Instagram are detailed, including concrete examples of the published content. A publication calendar is designed with the aim of guaranteeing regularity in the frequency and diversity of content.     Integrating UAV-LiDAR and Field Experiments to Survey Soil Erosion Drivers in Citrus Orchards Using an Exploratory Machine Learning Approach

    Citrus orchards are especially vulnerable owing to low inter-row vegetation cover, and frequent tillage. Here, we combine controlled field experiments with proximal remote sensing–derived geomorphometric variables and machine learning (ML) to identify key factors of erosion in a Mediterranean climate citrus plantation located close to Seville and the National Park of Doñana (Southern Spain) on Gleyic Regosols (clayic, arenic). We conducted rainfall simulations with 30 s sampling, measured infiltration (mini-disc infiltrometer), saturated hydraulic conductivity (Kfs; Guelph permeameter), compaction (penetrologger), and soil respiration (gas analyzer) at multiple points, and derived high resolution morphometric indices from proximal sensing (UAV-LiDAR). Linear models and Random Forests were trained to explain three responses: soil loss, sediment concentration (SC), and runoff. Results show that soil loss is most strongly associated with maximum compaction and Kfs (multiple regression: R2 = 0.68; adjusted R2 = 0.52; p = 0.063), while SC increases with surface compaction and exhibits weak relationships with topographic metrics. Runoff decreases with average infiltration, which is related to compaction (β = −4.83 ± 2.38; R2 = 0.34; p = 0.077). Diagnostic checks indicate centered residuals with mild heteroscedasticity and a few high leverage observations. Random Forests captured part of the variance for soil loss (≈29%) but performed poorly for runoff, consistent with limited sample size and modest nonlinear signal. Morphometric analysis revealed gentle relief but pronounced convergent–divergent patterns that modulate hydrological connectivity. There were strong differences in the experiments conducted close to the trees and in the tractor trails. We conclude that compaction and near surface hydraulic properties are the most influential and measurable controls of erosion at plot scale and the UAV-LiDAR could not give us extra-insights.     La contribución de la inteligencia artificial a la participación en el aula y el aprendizaje activo de los estudiantes chinos de inglés

    Recently, various studies have highlighted the positive impacts of using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in second language (L2) education. However, the contribution of such innovative technologies to English as a foreign language (EFL) students’ psycho-affective states and learning approaches has remained under-explored. To fill this gap, the present qualitative study interviewed 30 Chinese EFL students to showcase the ways through which AI tools could contribute to their classroom engagement and active learning (AL) practices. The results of thematic analysis revealed that AI technologies contributed to the participants’ engagement by ‘fostering continuous learning’, ‘providing content tailored to learners’ needs and levels’, ‘offering interactive exercises and tasks’, ‘giving immediate feedback on assignments’ and ‘energizing traditional lessons by adding joy and fun’. On the other hand, the findings demonstrated that AI technologies could facilitate the students’ AL by ‘providing personalized and adaptive learning paths and practices’, ‘providing instant feedback’, ‘facilitating peer interaction’, ‘being available and flexible for learners’, encouraging self-paced learning’, and ‘providing rich and engaging materials and activities’. The findings are discussed in detail and implications for L2 educators and policy-makers are provided to encourage the implementation of AI tools in L2 education as opportunities to enhance students’ positive emotions and learning practices.Recientemente, varios estudios han destacado los efectos positivos del uso de la tecnología de inteligencia artificial (ia) en la educación de segunda lengua (l2). Sin embargo, la contribución de estas tecnologías innovadoras al Estado psicoemocional y los métodos de aprendizaje del inglés como estudiante de lengua extranjera (efl) aún no se ha explorado completamente. Para llenar este vacío, este estudio cualitativo entrevistó a 30 estudiantes chinos de inglés y mostró cómo las herramientas de inteligencia artificial pueden promover su participación en el aula y la práctica del aprendizaje activo (al). Los resultados del análisis temático muestran que la tecnología de inteligencia artificial mejora la participación de los participantes al promover el aprendizaje continuo, proporcionar contenidos a medida de las necesidades y niveles de los alumnos, proporcionar ejercicios y tareas interactivas, dar retroalimentación inmediata a los deberes y motivar los cursos tradicionales aumentando la alegría y la diversión. Por otro lado, los resultados del estudio muestran que las tecnologías de inteligencia artificial pueden promover el aprendizaje de los estudiantes proporcionando caminos y prácticas de aprendizaje personalizadas y adaptadas, proporcionando retroalimentación instantánea, promoviendo la interacción entre pares", proporcionando disponibilidad y flexibilidad a los estudiantes, fomentando el aprendizaje de progreso autodefinido y proporcionando materiales y actividades ricas y atractivas. Estos hallazgos se discuten en detalle y proporcionan inspiración para educadores y responsables políticos de segunda lengua para alentar la implementación de herramientas de inteligencia artificial en la educación de segunda lengua como una oportunidad para mejorar el Estado de ánimo positivo de los estudiantes y la práctica de aprendizaje

    Lived experience and the naturalization of bodily experience: An ecological proposal

    In this paper we defend the idea that ecological psychology is in a good position for making sense of bodily experience by naturalizing some of the most important features of Husserlian lived experience, such as kinesthetics or proprioception. Some postcognitivist researchers have suggested that the notion of lived experience, originated in Husserl’s phenomenological project, is fundamental to make sense of the concept of bodily experience. Recently, it has been suggested that, when considering Husserl’s notion of lived experience, ecological psychology lacks the conceptual resources to make sense of this notion, for it is focused on goal-directed tasks. In contrast, enactivism is allegedly in better shape to make sense of the concept due to its direct roots in the phenomenological tradition. After contextualizing the debate, in this paper we claim that all the relevant aspects attributed to the Husserlian notion of lived experience can be accounted for within the scientific framework of ecological psychology.     Dynamic spatio-temporal modelling of tourism impact on income inequality and polarization: Inbound and domestic flows in the EU

    Concern about income distribution has spread worldwide owing to its connections with social unrest and conflict. For this reason, the European Union (EU) pays special attention to its Cohesion Policy, thus fulfilling its commitment to equity and ensuring its own economic, social and political sustainability. This paper aims to assess the impact of tourism on income inequality and polarization with a view to guiding income distribution policies, particularly the EU Cohesion Policy. Specifically, we control for spatial dependence to determine the impact of tourism both in destinations and their neighbouring regions. We also consider non-linear relationships to detect possible changes over time in the effects of tourism on income distribution. Additionally, we contrast inbound and domestic tourism since the characteristics of these flows can have differential effects on the results. Dynamic Spatio-temporal estimations are applied to EU NUTS-1 data using spatial lag of X (SLX) models. Our estimations indicate that total tourism hinders income distribution in destinations showing an inverted-U-shaped relationship with income inequality and polarization. We find that inequality and polarization increase with inbound tourism but decrease with domestic tourism. Moreover, the two typologies improve income distribution in regions neighbouring tourism destinations. Both types of tourism cause direct, indirect and induced effects of different intensity. Policy actions applicable to other geographical contexts are proposed targeting the tourism supply structure, labour market regulation and structural competitiveness jointly with measures to effectively manage the transition to a knowledge-based economy and strengthen social protection systems, particularly in education, health, unemployment and retirement.MICIU/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 and ERDF/EU (PID2022-136235NB-I00

    Altruistic Behavior in Charitable Giving: a Comparison between Rational, Numerical, and Emotional Prompts

    The evidence on the influence of rational appeals on moral behavior remains inconclusive. The opportunity to donate to a charity provides a fruitful applied case to test the details that might explain the mixed results. Previous studies have demonstrated the power of emotional appeals to induce participants to donate, while different rational appeals vary in their performance. Our paper presents the results of three pre-registered experiments comparing how much participants were willing to donate via direct cash transfers when exposed to different conditions. Experiment 1 tested five conditions. Three are vignette-based: Narrative, our emotional textual prompt, presents the testimony of an identified recipient, while Argument presents a Singer-style argument for charitable giving, and Facts consists of the numerical results of an evaluation of a cash transfer program. The other two conditions are based on perspective-taking exercises with either a reasonable donor or a suffering recipient, designed to elicit empathy with the beneficiaries. As predicted, the average amount donated in the control condition was significantly lower than in each of the other five conditions. Narrative performed best, significantly better than all other conditions. Among the rational conditions, Facts performed better descriptively. Its success is surprising given the poor performance of adding numerical information in other studies. After a replication with the vignette conditions in Experiment 2, we tested two variations of our Facts condition to explore how numerical information was taken into consideration. The numerical information in Large Numbers conveyed a highly effective intervention, while those in Small Numbers presented a barely positive impact.
