Revisando las percepciones de los aprendices chinos de inglés sobre el inglés como lengua global: un estudio de caso cualitativo
The increasing growth of English as an international language has resulted
in many changes in sociolinguistic realities. As a consequence, the complex sociolinguistic
landscape of the English language has led to diverse attitudes toward English as a global language
and generated various concerns and debates on how the language should be taught and
learned in various contexts. Therefore, there are calls for a pedagogical paradigm shift from
the traditional native-oriented approach to Global Englishes (GE)-informed pedagogy to
facilitate students’ communication in international settings. However, GE-informed teaching
in the English language classroom is rarely incorporated in contexts where English is used
as a foreign language (EFL). The present study employed a semi-structured interview and
student diaries to unpack Chinese university English language learners’ perceptions of GE.
Findings showed that although Chinese English learners perceived English as a linguistic
capital and held that mutual intelligibility as a goal of communication, ambivalent views on
varieties of spoken English and ownership of the English language and culture were still displayed.
The findings suggest that the ambivalent views of the studies may be influenced by
GE and the native-speakerism ideology. The study proposes the importance of incorporating
GE-informed pedagogy in the classroom and calls for a more critical approach to moving
beyond the ideology of native-speakerism in English language education.
Molecular detection and lineage differentiation of Trypanosoma cruzi in dogs from a metropolitan area of Central México: Implications for urban zoonotic transmission
Trypanosoma cruzi is the etiological agent of Chagas disease, a zoonotic infection that affects millions of people
across the Americas. Despite its well-documented presence in rural and wild environments, little is known
about its transmission dynamics in rapidly urbanizing areas. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence
and genetic diversity of T. cruzi in domestic dogs from the Metropolitan Area of Querétaro, Mexico, a region
where no formal studies of Chagas disease transmission have been conducted. A total of 303 canine blood samples
were analyzed using PCR, and 5.9 % tested positive for T. cruzi. Lineage-specific PCR revealed that both
TcI and TcII strains were present, suggesting complex transmission cycles potentially involving both wild and
domestic reservoirs. These findings underscore the need for further research on vector ecology and the role of
urban wildlife in maintaining T. cruzi transmission, highlighting an emerging risk for urban populations

Despite sharing part of the chemical structure with other ligands of G-quadruplexes (G4s), the interaction of Scriptaid with G4s has not been explored before. We synthesized Scriptaid and screened its cytotoxic activity in cellular models of colorectal cancer (CRC). We extensively evaluated its biological activity by cell cycle, immunofluorescence, qRT-PCR and Western blot experiments. To identify the G4 targets of Scriptaid, we conducted a panel of binding assays. Here, we show that Scriptaid induced cytotoxicity, cell cycle arrest and nucleolar stress in CRC cells. Moreover, Scriptaid impaired RNA polymerase I (Pol I) transcription, stabilized G4s and caused DNA damage. Finally, we disclose that these effects were attributable to the binding of Scriptaid to G4s in ribosomal DNA. In conclusion, our work reveals that a primary impact of Scriptaid on human cells is the interaction with G4s.Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (PI21/00497)European UnionPID2020-120481RB-I00/AEI/10.13039/501100011033Junta de Andalucía (BIO-344)Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia (451‐03‐65/2024‐03/200161)The Government of Spain PhD fellowship FPU16/05822University of Almeria PhD fellowship CPRE2023-06

Leather production in the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada: a reflection on its location and productive spaces
The significant role that leather played in the Nasrid productive sphere does not correspond in any way to the almost total lack of knowledge that we have about it. In this work, we carry out an exercise of locating leather manufacture in the territory of the Nasrid emirate on the basis of the archaeological remains and textual information available, to then reflect on its location, its changes in relation to the urban structure in which it is inserted and evaluate the role that producers may have played in these matters.El Grupo de investigación PRINMA: Producción, Intercambio y Materialidad (HUM-1035; PAIDI

Production and investigation on the piezocapacitive properties of self-sensing cement-based composites with reduced graphene oxide
Self-sensing cementitious materials have garnered considerable attention in the field of structural health monitoring due to their unique ability to function as strain sensors under mechanical loads. Among these smart materials, piezoelectric cement compounds have emerged as a rapidly growing area of research, demonstrating significant potential for the development of sensors with minimal energy requirements and the promise of self-sustainability. This paper conducts a thorough analysis of the electrical and mechanical properties of cement composites enriched with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and assesses their suitability as self- sensing strain sensors. The proposed methodology encompasses voltammetry measurements, current transients, and compression tests on rGO-cement composites to evaluate the piezoelectric coefficient of charge d33 associated with piezocapacitive capabilities of the material. The presented findings showcase noticeable properties, with samples exhibiting a piezoelectric charge coefficient higher than previously documented compounds in the literature.Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) - “SMS-SAFEST - Smart Masonry enabling SAFE-ty-assessing STructures after earthquakes” (FIS00001797
Stable carbon isotope fractionation during the transformation of amorphous CaCO3: Impact of humidity and temperature
The isotopic composition of carbonates has been widely used as a proxy for reconstructing Earth’s past environmental conditions, which requires the preservation of the isotope composition of the primary precipitate or knowledge about its transformation pathway. In this context, the formation of crystalline carbonates via amorphous precursors has been identified as a common formation process for both man-made and natural carbonates, where the impact to the isotopic composition of the final CaCO3 products is insufficiently known to date. This study focusses on the changes in stable carbon isotope fractionation during the transformation of ACC into crystalline carbonate in the presence/absence of atmospheric CO2 induced by (i) humidity (from 33 to 95% RH) at a temperature of 5 and 20ºC and (ii) solid-state transformation of ACC to calcite induced by tempering up to 500ºC. During the humidity induced crystallization of ACC and in the presence of CO2, δ13C of the solids increased with reaction time, where the crystalline carbonate-ACC enrichment factors (13c−ACC) are ranging between 2.0 and 8.4‰ at the final stage. This 13cc−ACC evolution reflects the uptake of CO2(g) besides carbonate gained from the ACC dissolution. Accordingly, ACC transformation occurs via dissolution-reprecipitation, which is induced by physiosorbed gaseous H2O that combines with liberated H2O from ACC dissolution. In this way, generated reactive solutions contain DIC from the dissolution of the ACC precursor, and subsequently from the hydration/hydroxylation of CO2(g) from the air, where carbon isotope re-equilibration kinetics between CO2(g) and dissolved inorganic (DIC) species have to be considered. In contrast, without CO2(g) the crystalline CaCO3 almost matches the isotope composition of the ACC (13εc−ACC = −0.4 ±0.3‰), thus indicating non-significant CO2 degassing and/or subsequent re-equilibration trend. The solid−state transformation of ACC to calcite during heat−induced dehydration yields a slightly negative enrichment factor (13εc−ACC =−0.6 ± 0.2‰) that may reflect carbon isotope fractionation due to fast recrystallization-rate kinetics accompanied by variable amounts of CO2 degassing during transformation. Our results suggest that the carbon isotope compositions of carbonates formed via an amorphous precursor at low water/solid ratios (e.g., in caves or biominerals) may not accurately reflect the original conditions of the carbonate formation, hence paleoenvironmental should be interpreted with care
Blood Pressure Reference Values in Infants Under 1 Year of Age. Oscillometric and Auscultatory Parameters
Funding for open access charge: University of Granada/CBUA.Aim: Blood pressure values in infants are an understudied topic. It is a complex problem in routine care. We only have reference charts obtained using oscillometric devices, which are not up to date and were measured more than 30 years ago. The usual reference standard for blood pressure is the values obtained by auscultation, and there are no published reference figures for this age group. Methods: In our study we present the normal values of 228 healthy children, recruited in our centre, aged between 14 days and 364 days of life, with auscultatory and oscillometric values taken in each patient. Results Divided into four large quarterly groups, the results obtained confirm significantly greater differences in the oscillometric figures with respect to the auscultatory ones. No significant differences were found between the same blood pressure modalities when age, sex or the finding of minor conditions were assessed in the study of the patients. Conclusions: Previously undescribed oscillometric and auscultatory reference values for paediatric blood pressure are available and can be applied in daily practice in infants. Auscultatory measurements should be taken into account, especially to confirm the values, as we would do if the patient's age were different.University of Granada/CBU
Based on a compilation of wooden and stone sculptures by Juan de Salazar, made known by various authors, this work aims to bring these pieces together to outline the artistic profile of this little-known sculptor. In this way, it will delve into understanding the aspects that explain how and why, despite being one of the leading names in the Granada workshops at the end of the 18th century, he never developed a remarkable artistic personality. Thus, the exhaustion of traditional Baroque models and the unfair competition from his main rival, Torcuato Ruiz del Peral, will form the basis of a crisis that will only be alleviated by conforming to Neoclassical schemes
