The Relationship with Meeting Physical Activity Guidelines in Preschool-Aged Children: A Systematic Review

    No full text
Background/Objectives: Physical activity (PA) during preschool is vital for supporting physiological development, enhancing cognitive abilities and fostering socio-emotional growth. However, consistent disparities in meeting PA guidelines have been observed. This systematic review aims to identify studies that compared preschoolers’ PA, as measured by technological devices, with recommended PA guidelines. Specifically, it examines (i) factors associated with meeting PA guidelines and (ii) the outcomes observed when children meet these guidelines. Methods: The search strategy was designed based on the PICOS framework. Then, a systematic review was conducted using four databases to identify studies that included children from 0 to 6 years old participating in PA sessions recorded through technological devices. PA is compared with guidelines, and correlations were reported. Results: Of the 52 studies reviewed, most found that meeting PA guidelines in preschool-aged children was linked to favourable outcomes across multiple domains. Children who met the guidelines tended to show better motor competence, emotional regulation and cognitive skills, particularly in areas like working memory and social understanding. However, the relationship with body composition and body mass index was inconsistent, suggesting that the benefits of PA in early childhood extend beyond weight-related measures. Conclusions: Meeting PA guidelines in early childhood is strongly associated with cognitive development, emotional regulation, motor skills and social behaviours. However, adherence varies significantly due to a complex mix of individual, familial, socioeconomic and environmental factors

Modelling Time-series Data Generation with Diffusion Models for triaxial data

    No full text
Recent advancements in diffusion models have demonstrated their capacity to generate high-quality synthetic images. However, their application to time-series data generation remains under-explored. We propose Diff-TSD, a novel method that leverages diffusion models and Modified Recurrence Plots to generate synthetic triaxial time-series data. By transforming raw signals into RGB image representations, we enable the application of image-based generative models for time-series data generation. In this framework, raw triaxial time-series data, such as accelerometer readings, are first transformed into trivariate recurrence plots that preserve the temporal correlation of the signals. These plots are treated as images, where each variate corresponds to an RGB channel, enabling the use of diffusion models traditionally designed for image synthesis. To evaluate the effectiveness of Diff-TSD, we conducted experiments using the WISDM benchmark dataset for human activity classification based on triaxial accelerometer data. The model, trained over 10,000 diffusion epochs, achieved an accuracy of 76.921 %, an F1-Score of 77.281 %, and exhibited stable performance from 5,000 epochs onward. While the accuracy shows a 7.59 % difference compared to real data performance (84.51 %), Diff-TSD proves valuable for augmenting training datasets, particularly under conditions of data scarcity. Additionally, the optimal trade-off between computational cost and performance was identified at 5,000 diffusion epochs, where the Xception classifier demonstrated the most consistent results. The proposed method contributes to the field of soft computing by leveraging diffusion models for synthetic time-series data generation, offering a robust solution for enhancing machine learning tasks in scenarios with limited data availability.MICIU/AEI/ 10.13039/501100011033 - ERDF/EU (Grant PID2023-149185OB-I00

    No full text
This research was supported by a forgivable loan provided by the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia (Call No. 860, 2019) for doctoral studies abroad. Esta investigación fue financiada mediante un crédito condonable otorgado por el Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación de Colombia (Convocatoria No. 860, 2019) para estudios de doctorado en el exterior. This study analyzes suicidal ideation in Colombian adolescents from an ecological perspec- tive, considering family, school, religious, and psychological factors. A total of 1372 high school students participated. The fi ndings demonstrate that family functionality was di- rectly and positively associated with lower levels of negative suicidal ideation, positioning it as the most infl uential factor in mitigating risk. This effect was both independent and substantially stronger than that of personal religiosity or school satisfaction, which exerted their infl uence primarily through indirect pathways mediated by psychological well-being and spirituality. Structural equation modeling confi rmed the direct effect of family function- ality on suicidal ideation, whereas school satisfaction and religiosity operated exclusively through mediating variables. The study highlights the importance of culturally sensitive preventive interventions that strengthen the family and school environment and promote the spiritual and emotional development of adolescents. Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation of Colombia (Call No. 860, 2019

Despite notable progress enhancing web accessibility for older people, our findings underscore the need for ongoing improvements for a truly inclusive web, considering the differences within this heterogeneous group and understanding old age not as a problem but as an opportunity.MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/PID2022-136779OB-C33FEDER, E

A guide to functional methods beyond one-loop order

    No full text
Functional methods can be applied to the quantum efective action to efciently determine counterterms and matching conditions for efective feld theories. We extend the toolbox to two-loop order and beyond and show how to evaluate the expansion of the path integral in a manifestly gauge-covariant manner. We also generalize the method to theories with mixed spin statistics and prove the validity of the hard-region matching formula to all loop orders. The methods are exemplifed with a two-loop matching calculation of the Euler–Heisenberg Lagrangian resulting from decoupling the electron in QED.MICIU/AEI - FEDER/UE (PID2022-139466NBC21)Junta de Andalucía (P21_00199, FQM101, AST22_6.5)MCIN/AEI - European Union NextGenerationEU/PRTR (IJC2020-043549-I, EUR2024.153549)Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) (grants: 186866; 209042

Why do you pay me this way? The effect of pay attributions on employees’ perception of organizational support

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the effect of internal pay attributions on employees’ perceived organizational support (POS). Furthermore, it examines the pathway through which these pay attributions influence POS by analyzing the mediating effect of pay level satisfaction. Based on survey data from 695 employees, the results show that commitment-focused pay attributions are positively and directly related to POS, and also indirectly related to it through the mediated effect of pay level satisfaction. Regarding control-focused pay attributions, while getting the most out of employees’ pay attribution is only directly and negatively related to POS, the cost-reduction HR strategy pay attribution is only indirectly and negatively related to POS through pay level satisfaction. This study is relevant because it provides a more in-depth understanding of how employees’ perceptions of the intentions behind pay decisions can influence how they assess both the organization and the outcomes they receive
