The communicative norm: ideology and praxis in SFLT
This article examines how the capitalist “ideological unconscious” shapes the curriculum in Spanish as a Foreign Language Teaching (SFLT). Starting from the notion of the “free subject” as a historical construct, the study critiques the mercantile logic underlying the communicative approach, which naturalizes the individual-society relationship as a dynamic of “merit” and negotiated “freedom”. It argues that this model reproduces exploitative relations by presupposing communication as a neutral act, merely mediated (transitively) by instances of “power”, thus concealing the unconscious value of this presupposition produced by the very capitalist mode of production that discourse analysis aims to combat. Through examples from teaching materials and pedagogical theories, the work demonstrates how dominant ideology acts (intransitively) in the idealization of communicative competence and scientific objectivity. The conclusion advocates for a critical pedagogy that denaturalizes the curriculum and acknowledges its radical historicity
Long-term stability of sinus complication management
The authors affiliated with the University of Granada acknowledge financial support from Research Groups CTS-138 and CTS-1028, funded by the Junta de Andalucía (Spain). Funding for open access charge was provided by Universidad de Granada/CBUA.Maxillary sinus augmentation shows a low incidence of complications and high clinical success due to favorable biological conditions and typically transient issues. Most complications are intraoperative, such as Schneiderian membrane perforation or hemorrhage, and are often resolved immediately. Postoperative complications, like sinusitis, graft loss, and voice alterations, are less frequent but clinically relevant. This study evaluates the long-term effects of intraoperative and postoperative complications in maxillary sinus augmentation. A specific classification was used to differentiate these complications, focusing on their impact on bone graft maintenance and dental implant survival. Special attention was given to the progression of sinus inflammatory pathology, from preoperative conditions to acute and chronic sinusitis. While intraoperative complications are generally manageable, they can predispose patients to postoperative issues that affect long-term outcomes. Sinus membrane perforation emerged as a key intraoperative factor linked to later sinusitis, compromising graft integrity and implant stability. The evolution of sinus inflammation significantly influences the long-term success of both graft material and implants. Complications in maxillary sinus augmentation, if not properly managed, can have lasting effects. Careful surgical technique and thorough postoperative monitoring are essential to mitigate risks and ensure long-term success. Recognizing the long-term impact of these complications is crucial for optimizing outcomes in maxillary sinus augmentation.Junta de Andalucía (Spain) CTS-138, CTS-1028Universidad de Granada/CBU
El efecto de la personalidad del docente en la competencia social del alumnado: un estudio empírico en aulas de Educación Primaria
This study explores the relationship between the social competence of students and the personal and unique behaviour of teachers in the classroom, as expressed through their personalities. This is approached by using an interactionist strategy which affirms the influence of situations upon behaviour. An exploratory empirical study which included 36 teachers and 302 students from Spanish primary schools was designed. The personality of the teachers (i.e. their adjustment, leadership, independence, consensus, and extraversion) as well as the attitudes and social thinking of the students were measured. The results showed that the age and sex of both the students and the teachers, and the personalities of the teachers were factors that affected the development of SC. Specifically, the behavioural tendencies significantly related to SC only showed this relationship with specific attitudes and thinking components of social incompetence; inhibiting some and improving others. Extraversion emerged as the teaching profile related to the greatest number of these components. This current work highlighted the importance of considering the factors studied in teacher training in order to help improve the quality of education.
QCD antenna radiative spectrum in dense media within the Improved Opacity Expansion
We compute the double differential inclusive spectrum for the emission of a
soft gluon from a color-singlet qq¯ pair traversing a dense QCD medium. Our results extend
the existing literature by simultaneously incorporating both single hard and multiple soft
gluon exchanges between the jet and the medium — an essential ingredient for a complete
phenomenological description of jet quenching. Using the Improved Opacity Expansion
framework, we provide an analytically tractable treatment, reducing the full cross-section to
a set of simple expressions. Our analysis demonstrates that rare hard (Molière) scatterings
significantly modify the gluon spectrum at large angles, accelerating the loss of color coherence
between the initial quarks. We further quantify whether the modifications are driven by
an overall weakening of the interference term, or by more detailed modifications to the
fragmentation pattern. Our results provide a direct input for phenomenological jet quenching
studies, offering new insights into the role of color decoherence in QCD matter.Foundation for the Advancement of Theoretical Physics “BASIS” (24-2-1-69-1)MCIN/AEI - ERDF (PID2022-139466NB-C21)Consejería de Universidad, Investigación e Innovación / Gobierno de España / Unión Europea – NextGenerationEU (AST22_6.5
Implementation evaluation of a pharmacist prescribing service for the management of dermatological conditions: a study protocol
Background: The scope of practice for community pharmacists is evolving globally. Policy drivers are to increase access to primary care, due to the lack of accessibility to general medical practitioners or inappropriate demand on emergency departments. Most implementation studies in this space have reported on determinants for pharmacist prescribing services. There is a lack of comprehensive evaluations including investigation of the implementation process and outcomes. Methods: A cohort design hybrid type 2 effectiveness-implementation study, applying mixed methods will be carried out between 19th July 2024 and 31st August 2025. This paper is focussed on implementation evaluation components. Pharmacists who participated in either of two previous trials will invite consecutive patients with symptoms suggestive of impetigo, mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, mild plaque psoriasis or herpes zoster to participate. The intervention is a pharmacist-patient consultation utilising codesigned clinical guidelines. Following pharmacist training, the primary implementation strategy will be facilitation, with tailored implementation strategies delivered by implementation facilitators (IFs) based on individual pharmacy and pharmacist level barriers. IFs will be trained and will receive regular feedback from the research team. The assessment of the implementation impact will include the identification of implementation determinants (Consolidate Framework of Implementation Research, CFIR) and their link to strategies (Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change, ERIC). The evaluation of the implementation process will measure the progression of implementation stages (Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment, EPIS). The analysis of implementation outcomes will follow Proctor et al. recommendations (acceptability, adoption, appropriateness, feasibility, fidelity and reach). Practical tools for IFs will be used including a checklist to guide the identification, evaluation and documentation of implementation determinants to guide problem-solving solutions and to collect implementation outcomes during encounters with pharmacists. Three reports will be used to provide feedback to IFs. Semi-structured interviews with patients, pharmacists and other key parties will be used to evaluate acceptability, appropriateness and feasibility and sustainment will be explored by using normalisation process theory. Discussion: This study will contribute to the literature by generating new data on the implementation of pharmacist prescribing services with a detailed facilitation process to support implementers and a detailed process to assess tailored implementation strategies.NSW Government (Australia
Comparative Effectiveness of Iodine Nanoparticles and Potassium Iodide on Nitrogen Assimilation, Biomass, and Yield in Lettuce
We would like to thank the Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (SECIHTI—Mexico) for the support provided by the scholarship granted to Juan José Patiño Cruz through the “Becas Nacionales SECIHTI” program with CVU No. 1317558Efficient nitrogen assimilation in crops remains a key challenge for sustainable agriculture. This study investigated the physiological effects of foliar application of iodine on
Lactuca sativa L. cv. Butterhead, comparing two different chemical forms—nanoparticulate
iodine (INPs) and potassium iodide (KI)—selected to contrast a conventional ionic source
with a nanoformulations of growing interest in plant nutrition. Plants were treated under
passive hydroponic conditions with INPs and KI at concentrations of 40, 80, and 160 µM.
The results showed that INPs at 40 µM significantly increased total biomass and soluble
amino acid accumulation compared to the control, with no signs of phytotoxicity. In contrast, KI treatments significantly increased nitrate reductase activity, suggesting a role in
the activation of the nitrogen pathway. However, neither form consistently outperformed
the other across all evaluated variables. Yield and total chlorophyll content remained
statistically unchanged between treatments, indicating a complex and form-dependent
response. These findings highlight the differential physiological effects of iodine formulations on nitrogen-related metabolism and provide preliminary evidence for their potential
integration into precision fertilization strategies focused on biochemical efficiency and
metabolic modulation.Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (SECIHTI—Mexico) CVU No. 131755
Prevalence of the endolymphatic sac hypoplasia in a cohort of individuals without Meniere disease
Purpose: To estimate the prevalence of endolymphatic sac hypoplasia (EShp)—a proposed specific finding in Menière ´ ’s
disease (MD) that defines an endophenotype characterized by bilateral involvement, male predominance, temporal bone
abnormalities, and familial clustering—in individuals without MD, to assess its specificity for the condition.
Methods: We analyzed 956 temporal bone CT scans from individuals without MD to assess the prevalence of EShp using
the Angular Trajectory of the Vestibular Aqueduct (ATVA) marker. ATVA distribution, reproducibility, and associations
with clinical variables were also evaluated.
Results: EShp was identified in 6 ears from 4 individuals, yielding a prevalence of 0.6% per patient and 0.8% per ear. ATVA
values had a median of 95.0° (IQR = 12.5°, range 65.9°–159.4°). Interobserver agreement was good (ICC = 0.75), with a
mean bias of 6.2° ± 5.4° and 5.5% of ears outside the 95% limits of agreement. No significant associations were found
between ATVA and sex, age, or clinical diagnosis.
Conclusions: EShp is rare in individuals without MD, supporting its specificity and potential role in MD pathophysiology.
The ATVA marker is reliable and reproducible and may serve as a CT biomarker for the hypoplastic MD endophenotype. The University of Sydney (K7013_B3413 Grant
