A cooking class for middle-aged and older men was held in Ebetsu City : Community contribution activities by a registered nutritionist
Get PDFBulletin札幌の郊外に位置する江別市は，勤め人の多く暮らす街で近年高齢化率が高い。江別市を中心にその近くの地域で活動する江別管内栄養士会は，今年で50年を迎える。酪農大も栄養士会の活動に参加してきた。これまで栄養士会の地域活動として料理経験の少ない中高年男性向けの，基本的な料理の講習会を22年間で97回開催してきた。コロナ禍でも感染防止に留意しつつ開催してきた。講習会参加者は平均すると1回16名前後で年代は60～70代が主だった。実習献立は会員の栄養士が季節や，バランスを考えて作成してきた。当日は食材の栄養についてのお話をし，講師を担当した。実施献立は和風49回，中国風4回，混合献立が44回だった。食材で多かったのは魚で32回，肉は19回，野菜と魚は4回野菜と肉は22回用いた。参加者からは「有意義だった」「楽しかった」「家庭で実践する」「家族がつくった料理を喜ぶのが嬉しい」とのアンケートの回答だった。Ebetsu City, located next to Sapporo City in Hokkaido, has a large population of working adults, but the population has been aging in recent years. The association of registered nutritionists (hereinafter referred to as the “registered nutritionist association”) active in Ebetsu City and its neighboring areas has a history of 50 years of activities this year. The university also participates in the activities of the Registered Nutritionist Association. Over the past 22 years, as part of its community activities, the association has conducted 97 basic cooking classes for middle-aged and older men with little cooking experience. Since many of them wanted to learn how to cook even with the coronary disaster, the classes were held while taking precautions against infectious diseases. There were 16 participants per session, mostly in their 60s to 70s. The menu was prepared by a registered nutritionist, taking into consideration the season and preferences. The registered nutritionist talked about the nutrients contained in the ingredients and gave cooking instructions. The number of times the menu was prepared was 49 for “Japanese style,” 4 for “Chinese style,” and 44 for “mixed style. Ingredients used were “fish” 32 times, “meat” 18 times, “vegetables and fish” 4 times, and “vegetables and meat” 23 times. In a questionnaire, participants commented that the cooking class was “meaningful”, “I enjoyed it”, “I want to try it at home” and “I am glad my family enjoys the food I made”.departmental bulletin pape

The story follows Jane (Janna) as she cares for a poor, elderly woman named Maudie. Lessing presents a compassionate caregiving relationship that goes beyond the boundaries of social structures. Kimiyo Ogawa notes Virginia Woolfʼs metaphorical reference to the relationship between a condescending caregiver and a helpless sick person in their bed. Janna seeks new relationships outside of her failed family ties with her husband and mother, reflecting Lessingʼs own detachment from her family, especially her mother. Jannaʼs encounter with Maudie leads her to foster a reciprocal relationship that extends beyond family. Jannaʼs relationship with Maudie grows through intimacy, immersing herself in the world of marginalized people, which mirrors Lessingʼs own experience of entering the working-class world in London. Janna learns to break down social and class barriers in order to form a compassionate and equal relationship. While Joan Tronto discusses the reciprocity and fluidity of caregiving roles in human relationships, Janna is portrayed as both a caregiver and a recipient of care. She not only experiences being bedridden under doctorsʼ care but also receives Maudieʼs help in writing articles and novels. The novelʼs ending scene, where Jannaʼs young niece offers her tea, suggests a bright future brought about by empathetic and reciprocal care. Through Janna and Maudieʼs story, Lessing emphasizes the significance of empathy, care, and mutual respect in overcoming social divisions, advocating for a society where relationships are based on understanding and support rather than power dynamics. Lessing creates numerous characters in her novels who experience the problems, suffering, joys, emotions, and thoughts that everyone goes through. Relationship of the Quercus dentata forest in a serpentinite area with soil conditions
Get PDFBulletinMt. Chikabumi, located in the suburbs of Asahikawa City, Hokkaido, has a large area of pure Quercus dentata forest. This mountain is partly composed of serpentinite, but the relationship between this vegetation and soil properties has not been understood. Therefore, this study was conducted to clarify the effects of soil conditions on this vegetation. In this study, three plots were established on Mt. Chikabumi: P1 for a typical deciduous broadleaf forest without Quercus dentata trees, P2 for a deciduous broadleaf forest mixed with some Quercus dentata trees, and P3 for a pure Quercus dentata forest. P2 and P3 are located in the serpentinite zone. The thickness of the soil A layer was significantly greater in P2 than in P1 and P3. Soil exchangeable Ni was not detectable in P1, while the soil A layer in both P2 and P3 plots had higher exchangeable Ni than the lower soil layers. The exchangeable Ca/Mg ratio was less than 1 below the B soil layer in P2 and P3, indicating that P2 and P3 had the characteristics of serpentinite soils, but these characteristics were weak in the A soil layer. Since the total carbon (organic matter) concentration tended to be higher in layer A, this concentration was compared with other analytical parameters, which showed significant positive correlations with soil properties such as water content, total nitrogen, available phosphate, exchangeable K, Ca, Mn, Na, and exchangeable Ca/Mg ratio, and a negative correlation with the ratio of exchangeable Ni to exchangeable base cations. These results suggest that soil organic matter deposition is likely to mitigate the effects of serpentinite on vegetation. Further accumulation of organic matter in the soil may allow other species to grow in the pure Quercus dentata forests, and the pure forests may decline over time.departmental bulletin pape
Perspectives of Japanese veterinary students on the connection between animal abuse and interpersonal violence
Get PDFBulletin動物虐待と対人暴力は同時発生的に起きているという海外の研究がみられる。日本の獣医学生は，その関連性を意識しているかどうかを明らかにした。獣医学生が，動物虐待と対人暴力の関連を理解して獣医師として働くようになれば，DVの早期発見，動物虐待の両方を防止することができるからである。「動物虐待と対人暴力の関連について，どのくらい意識をして，どのような考えを持っているか」，「動物や人への暴力が疑わられる場合に，適切と考えている行動」について回答を求めた。その結果，獣医学生の78.8％が，動物を虐待する人は，子どもへの虐待も懸念し，68.6％が，配偶者や恋人への虐待を懸念していることが示された。「動物や対人への暴力が疑われた場合の行動」として「すべてのケースを通報する」と回答した学生は，動物に対する虐待の場合でも，人に対する虐待の場合でも3割程度であった。動物や対人への暴力が疑われた場合に動物に対しては99.2％が「獣医師として何かをする」，人に対する暴力が疑われた場合は94.9％が「その人のために何かをする」という気持ちが示された。このことから，獣医師に動物虐待だけでなく，DV の早期発見にも尽力してもらえることが期待できる。Worldwide, studies have shown that animal abuse and domestic violence (DV) occur simultaneously. This study aimed to clarify whether Japanese veterinary students were aware of this connection. If veterinary students are made aware of the connection between animal abuse and DV, from the outset of their work as professionals, it might be possible to detect DV early and prevent it, in addition to combating animal abuse. Veterinary studentsʼ awareness of the connection between animal abuse and DV was studied, as well as the behavior and actions they would consider appropriate to take if violence towards animals and people is suspected. The results showed that approximately 78.8% of the veterinary students interviewed worried that people who abused animals might also physically abuse children, and 68.8% worried that these people might abuse their spouses and lovers. When asked about what actions and behavior they would adopt if they suspected violence being inflicted on animals and people, only about 30% of the students answered that they would “Notify all cases,” even in the event of abuse towards both animals and people. If they suspected violence towards animals and people, 99.2% of the students showed the intention to “Do something as a veterinarian,” and if they suspected violence towards people, 94.9% showed the intention to “Do something to protect the victims.” Veterinarians can, therefore, be expected to help realize the early detection not only of animal abuse but also of DV.departmental bulletin pape
