A neural-visualization IDS for honeynet data

    No full text
Neural intelligent systems can provide a visualization of the network traffic for security staff, in order to reduce the widely known high false-positive rate associated with misuse-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs). Unlike previous work, this study proposes an unsupervised neural models that generate an intuitive visualization of the captured traffic, rather than network statistics. These snapshots of network events are immensely useful for security personnel that monitor network behavior. The system is based on the use of different neural projection and unsupervised methods for the visual inspection of honeypot data, and may be seen as a complementary network security tool that sheds light on internal data structures through visual inspection of the traffic itself. Furthermore, it is intended to facilitate verification and assessment of Snort performance (a well-known and widely-used misuse-based IDS), through the visualization of attack patterns. Empirical verification and comparison of the proposed projection methods are performed in a real domain, where two different case studies are defined and analyzed

Reputation-based intrusion detection system for wireless sensor networks

    Get PDF
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) can be used in a broad range of applications from complex military operations to simple domestic environments. This makes security a vital characteristic in WSNs. There have been numerous studies in the field of security in sensor networks, being Intrusion Detection System (IDS) among the most used tools in this area. This study proposes a new IDS design based on reputation and trust of the different nodes of a network for decision-making and analysis of possible sources of malicious attacks

Effect of heat Treatment Conditions on the Machinability of Ti64 and Ti54 M Alloys

    Get PDF
Orthogonal tests on cylindrical workpieces were carried out to analyze the effect of heat treatment on the machinability of newly developed Ti54M titanium alloy in comparison with Ti64. This paper focuses on the comparison of forces and temperature of the tool during dry orthogonal cuttings of Ti64 and three different heat treated Ti54M alloys. Forces and temperature are mainly affected by variation in cutting speed and feed, therefore, the depth of cut is maintained constant while cutting speed and feed are varied. Forces and temperature have been measured and chips are analyzed to establish a direct relationship between machinability and the different heat treatment conditions

Sorption isotherm, glass transition, and diffusion coefficient of polyacrylamide/water solutions

    Get PDF
The sorption isotherm, the glass transition, and the mutual diffusion coefficient of polyacrylamide/water solutions are obtained experimentally. All of these parameters are measured in the concentrated regime by gravimetric experiments. The mutual diffusion coefficient is also measured at high solvent concentrations by the sliding symmetric tubes technique. Three different polyacrylamide batches differing in their molar mass have been characterized. The results are expressed in terms of simple empirical correlations, suitable for use in process modelization or numerical simulations

Analysis of non-uniform circumferential segmentation of magnets to reduce eddy-current losses in SPMSM machines

    Get PDF
Eddy current losses generated in the rotor of the permanent magnet machines may lead to an excessive magnet heating. This can cause full demagnetization of the magnets so it is very important to analyze the losses on them to adopt solutions to reduce eddy current losses. The most common technique is the magnet circumferential segmentation. The segmentation of the magnetic poles usually is the same for each magnet segment. In this paper a new concept named nonuniform magnet segmentation is presented, where the length of each segment of a pole is chosen to minimize the losses. This method is tested in three different machines with particular characteristics and the results confirm that fewer losses can be achieved with this segmentation technique

Machining behaviour of Ti-6Al-4V and Ti-5553 alloys in interrupted cutting with PVD coated cemented carbide

    Get PDF
Machining behaviour of Ti-5553, Ti-6Al-4 V mill-annealed (MA) and Ti-6Al-4 V solution treated and aged (STA) alloys was studied in different interrupted cutting operations using PVD coated cemented carbide tools. Single tooth face milling was employed to study the wear behaviour and tool life of the coated tools that were further inspected using scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that a poor machinability was observed for Ti-5553 when compared to Ti-6Al-4 V (STA) and Ti6Al-4 V (MA). This was found to correlate reasonably well with an increase of work material adhesion severity on the cutting tool that resulted in an increased chipping and led to catastrophic tool failure. Series of orthogonal interrupted cutting tests were performed subsequently to investigate the role of work material and cutting data on the chip formation, mechanical loads and frictional conditions at the tool-chip contact. A detailed analysis of the chip segmentation characteristics of the different Ti alloys is provided and the results are employed in different analytical models to assess the shear strain, strain rate and segmentation frequency. Finally, a comparison of Ti-5553 and Ti-6-4 (MA) in interrupted turning is presented where the differences in terms of cutting temperature are discussed

Determination of molecular diffusion coefficient in n-Alkane binary mixtures: empirical correlations

    Get PDF
In this work we have measured the molecular diffusion coefficient of the n-alkane binary series nCi-nC6, nCi-nC10, and nCi-nC12 at 298 K and 1 atm and a mass fraction of 0.5 by using the so-called sliding symmetric tubes technique. The results show that the diffusion coefficient at this concentration is proportional to the inverse viscosity of the mixture. In addition, we have also measured the diffusion coefficient of the systems nC12-nC6, nC12-nC7, and nC12-nC8 as a function of concentration. From the data obtained, it is shown that the diffusion coefficient of the n-alkane binary mixtures at any concentration can be calculated from the molecular weight of the components and the dynamic viscosity of the corresponding mixture at 50% mass fraction
