    Youth interaction with television and online video content in the digital age

    This article examines the relationship of university students with television and online video content. Convergence processes in many areas during the digital age have significantly changed both audiovisual content consumption patterns and the content on offer itself. In addition, Web 2.0 has made it possible for interaction to go beyond mere consumption. The purpose of this research study was to ascertain what kind of interaction takes place between young people and audiovisual content. The categories analyzed are watch, share and create, with a focus on students’ everyday life. A mixed-method approach was used across a sample of 475 students from Mondragon University. Our main finding is that, although young people have the resources necessary to interact with media, this condition is not sufficient to favor behaviors that are more active. Young people show different practices and attitudes depending on the individual, the content, and the context but, in general, the interactive patterns that they have with television and online video content have more links with the mass communication paradigm than with the new communicative paradigm that arose in the Web 2.0 era

    El presente documento recoge la síntesis y las conclusiones del estudio Aportación de las cooperativas a los retos del tejido productivo vasco realizado por LANKI, Instituto de Estudios Cooperativos de Mondragon Unibertsitatea, en colaboración con la DIPUTACIÓN FORAL DE GIPUZKOA en el marco del programa ETORKIZUNA ERAIKIZ. Este estudio se ubica como el punto de partida de lo que pretende ser un proyecto de investigación de más amplio alcance cuyo objetivo es indagar sobre la contribución o aportación que en la actualidad realizan las cooperativas a nuestra sociedad para, a su vez, abrir una vía de refl exión sobre los retos específi cos que deben de abordar las cooperativas en el contexto del nuevo milenio, en su objetivo de continuar aportando valor a la sociedad de la que son parte. En este primer paso el foco del análisis se ha centrado en un primer ámbito de análisis: la aportación de las cooperativas al reto del tejido productivo vasco en la generación de riqueza y desarrollo económico en el contexto de una nueva fase del proceso de globalización de la economía

    El paradigma comunitario del cooperativismo de Mondragón: mirar las raíces para repensar el futuro

    Propósito: el propósito del artículo es aportar una reflexión sobre el trasfondo comunitario autogestio-nario del cooperativismo de Mondragón y conectarlo con las reflexiones sobre la autogestión económi-ca y comunitaria de Jeremy Rifkin y Henry Mintzberg. Descripción: el artículo explica las claves sobre las que se construyó el paradigma comunitario del cooperativismo de Mondragón y analiza su implantación concreta en las primeras décadas del siglo xx. Punto de vista: el punto de vista que desarrolla el artículo es una mirada a los orígenes de la experien-cia cooperativa de Mondragón, por la cual se analiza cómo se concretó en la práctica el ideal comuni-tario que subyacía al movimiento cooperativo. Se trata de un análisis histórico que posibilita repensar el futuro en clave comunitaria. Conclusión: el análisis del sustrato comunitario del movimiento cooperativo de Mondragón permite concluir que contiene una perspectiva atrayente para repensar la sociedad del siglo xxi, tal como su-gieren autores actuales como J. Rifkin y H. Mintzberg.Purpose: The article aims at providing reflection with respect to Mondragon’s cooperativism self-ma-naged community background and connects it with Jeremy Rifkin and Henry Mintzberg’s deliberations about economic and community self-management.Description: The article explains the key factors on which Mondragon’s cooperativism community para-digm was built and analyzes its implementation during the first decades of the 20th century.Point of view: The article takes a look at the origins of Mondragon’s cooperative experience; it analyzes how the community ideal that underlay the cooperative movement was put in practice. It’s a historical analysis that makes it possible to rethink the future focusing on the community.Conclusion: The analysis allows concluding that Mondragon’s cooperative movement supposes an attractive perspective to rethink 21st century’s society, just as contemporary authors like J. Rifkin and H. Mintzberg suggest.Objetivo: o objetivo do artigo é fornecer uma reflexão sobre o contexto comunitário autogestionário do cooperativismo de Mondragón, e relacioná-lo com as reflexões sobre a autogestão econômica e comunitária de Jeremy Rifkin e Henry Mintzberg.Descrição: o artigo explica as chaves sobre as quais foi construído o paradigma comunitário do coo-perativismo de Mondragón e analisa sua implementação concreta nas primeiras décadas do século xx.Ponto de vista: o ponto de vista do artigo são as origens da experiência cooperativa de Mondragón, através da qual se analisa como o ideal comunitário que fundamentava o movimento cooperativo foi posto em prática.     A performance-based taxonomy of entrepreneurial universities

    The European higher education landscape has experienced dramatic changes in the last decades and the entrepreneurial university has turned into a potential solution to these perceived problems. Therefore, this paper proposes taxonomy of entrepreneurial universities. Based on a cluster analysis, three distinct groups are identified, within different phases of the transformation into an entrepreneurial university: one group of universities is in the first phase of the path, since they are not obtaining high entrepreneurial university results yet; another group is in the second phase of the path, obtaining good results in hard academic entrepreneurship activities; and, finally, the last group is composed of the most entrepreneurial universities. Moreover, universities are not motionless within a specific group, they can improve and move from one stage to the upper one; indeed, this paper shows the main levers for moving from one stage to another

    A collaborative framework for android malware detection using DNS & dynamic analysis

    Nowadays, with the predominance of smart devices such as smartphones, mobile malware attacks have increasingly proliferated. There is an urgent need of detecting potential malicious behaviors so as to hinder them. Furthermore, Android malware is one of the major security issues and fast growing threats facing the Internet in the mobile arena. At the same time, DNS (Domain Name System) is widely misused by miscreants in order to provide Internet connection within malicious networks. Here, we propose an infrastructure for monitoring the Android applications in a platform-independent manner, introducing hooks in order to trace restricted API calls used at runtime of the application. These traces are collected at a central server were the application behavior filtering, string matching, and visualization takes place. From these traces we can extract malicious URLs and correlate them with DNS service network traffic, enabling us to find presence of malware running at the network level

    The use of areal surface topography characterisation in relation to fatigue performance

    Although the effect of surface topography on fatigue life is widely accepted, the underlying role of surface roughness from first principles is still poorly understood. Currently approaches which consider the influence of surface roughness on fatigue life prediction can be broadly classified into surface corrector factors (Cs) and stress concentration factors (Kt). Those approaches describe the surface according to the manufacturing process (machined, grounded...), or using 2D height descriptor parameters (Ra,Rz...). However, these approaches are not able to correctly describe the effect of roughness on the fatigue performance where it is anticipated a richer set of surface descriptors would show correlation. The present work aims to highlight the inherent limitations of the most commonly employed 2D surface measurement and characterization techniques, and provides an insight into the application of 3D areal surface characterization processes including the use of the latest areal surface topography parameters quantifying amplitude, spatial, and hybrid topographical information which is considered to be important for fatigue performance correlation

    On the accurate characterization of the drawbead up-lift forces

    The competitiveness of the automotive sector has led to a high demand of accuracy and reduction in lead-time of the deep drawing tool making process. In that regard, the numerical simulation of the deep drawing process has become a key method for the correct die design. Even though the accuracy of these simulations reached some high quality levels in terms of formability and defects, the material holding force remains an open issue among the die maker companies. This inaccuracy is related with the inability of shell elements to correctly reproduce the behavior of the material around the drawbeads. In order to overcome this problem, commercial stamping software used an analytical model to predict the drawbead holding forces. Nevertheless, most of these models are based on an experimental methodology developed in the 70's that do not exactly represent the industrial drawbead configuration. In order to be able to experimentally analyze the necessary up-lift force of each drawbead, in this work a new experimental procedure is presented. A wide range of automotive sector materials, ranging from mild steels up to high strength steels, have been tested and new values, compared with previous experiments, have been found. In that regard, the force distribution on the drawbead is also studied stressing the importance of the flat surfaces around the drawbead more than the drawbead punch itself

    Experimental and FEM analysis of surface integrity when broaching Ti64

    The performance of aeronautic critical components is strongly dependent on its fatigue behavior, which is directly linked to their surface integrity condition. Broaching operation is a machining operation extensively used for the manufacturing of some features due to the good dimensional quality and surface integrity condition obtained. Thus, the characteristics of surface integrity obtained in broaching is a key aspect to be considered for the improvement of the fatigue life. This work proposes a Finite Element Method (FEM) model for the prediction of the surface integrity (material damage and residual stresses) of the workpiece obtained after the broaching process using the commercial finite element software DEFORM 2D. The model includes a self-characterized Johnson-Cook flow stress constitutive law for the titanium alloy Ti64. Experimental tests were carried out in an EKIN RAS 10x160x320 hydraulic broaching machine at different cutting conditions for the validation of the predictive model. Apart from the fundamental output variables, such as, forces and chip morphology, a comprehensive study of the surface integrity of the machined piece was done. The residual stresses generated by the cutting process were measured by the hole-drilling technique. Microstructural alterations (material damage) of the workpiece was analyzed by optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope. Finally, the surface topography was examined by contact and optical profilometers. The results of the predictions showed significant good agreement with the experimental tests

    Analytical Modeling Approach to Study Harmonic Mitigation in AC Grids with Active Impedance at Selective Frequencies

    This paper presents an analytical model, oriented to study harmonic mitigation aspects in AC grids. As it is well known, the presence of non-desired harmonics in AC grids can be palliated in several manners. However, in this paper, a power electronic-based active impedance at selective frequencies (ACISEF) is used, due to its already proven flexibility and adaptability to the changing characteristics of AC grids. Hence, the proposed analytical model approach is specially conceived to globally consider both the model of the AC grid itself with its electric equivalent impedances, together with the power electronic-based ACISEF, including its control loops. In addition, the proposed analytical model presents practical and useful properties, as it is simple to understand and simple to use, it has low computational cost and simple adaptability to different scenarios of AC grids, and it provides an accurate enough representation of the reality. The benefits of using the proposed analytical model are shown in this paper through some examples of its usefulness, including an analysis of stability and the identification of sources of instability for a robust design, an analysis of effectiveness in harmonic mitigation, an analysis to assist in the choice of the most suitable active impedance under a given state of the AC grid, an analysis of the interaction between different compensators, and so on. To conclude, experimental validation of a 2.15 kA ACISEF in a real 33 kV AC grid is provided, in which real users (household and industry loads) and crucial elements such as wind parks and HVDC systems are near inter-connected
