Wenig verwunderlich, dass Albert Ballin eine der hervorragendsten Gestalten des wilhelminischen Kaiserreichs war. Von Beginn an sorgte er bei der Hamburg-Amerikanischen Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft, kurz Hapag genannt, für Aufsehen. Diese stieg unter der Führung ihres Managers Ballin zur größten Reederei der Welt auf. Von 1907 bis zu seinem tragischen Tod am 9. November 1918 gehörte Ballin dem Kuratorium der Hamburgischen Wissenschaftlichen Stiftung an und hat auch hier auf besondere Weise gewirkt. Die vorliegende Biographie zeichnet das außergewöhnliche Leben dieses Mannes nach.An unprecedented ascent: from the thirteenth child of a poor Jewish emigration agent to the "sovereign of seafaring" and "friend" of the emperor. Full text linkDer vorliegende Band versammelt die Beiträge der Tagung „Weimars (un)getreue Archivare?“, die am 26. und 27. November 2020 als gemeinsame Tagung der Universität Hamburg und des Staatsarchivs Hamburg stattfand.
Archivgeschichte wird in der Weimarer Republik oft von ihrem Ende her, von den persönlichen Kontinuitäten und Diskontinuitäten nach 1933, gedacht. Im vorliegenden Band wird die Zäsurerfahrung 1918/19, die das Ende des wilhelminischen Kaiserreiches markierte, ins Zentrum der Diskussion gestellt. Welche theoretischen, methodischen und personalpolitischen Einschnitte im Archivwesen gingen mit der politischen Neukonfigurierung unter föderalen und republikanischen Vorzeichen einher? Aufgezeigt wird die Heterogenität der staatlichen und nichtstaatlichen Archivlandschaft im Kaiserreich wie auch in der Weimarer Republik. Diese blieb in ihrer Komplexität erhalten und war – in Weimar – von Konflikten gekennzeichnet, in deren Zentrum nicht selten die archivalische Überlieferung selbst stand.
Die Beiträge verfolgen daher weniger das Ziel zu erklären, wie aus Weimars Archivaren Nationalsozialisten oder Gegner des Nationalsozialismus wurden; stattdessen spüren sie ausgehend von den zentralen oft mannigfaltig verbundenen Akteuren der Reaktion von Archivaren auf den „Systemwechsel” 1918/19 und ihrer gesellschaftlichen Positionssuche in der Weimarer Republik nach.This volume brings together the contributions to the conference "Weimars (un)getreue Archivare?, which took place on November 26 and 27, 2020 as a joint conference of the University of Hamburg and the Hamburg State Archives.

Negociando manga
Full text linkEn el contexto de una aceleración de la circulación de productos culturales, la historieta y los dibujos animados japoneses o, respectivamente manga (漫画) y anime (アニメ), se convirtieron a fines del siglo XX en un inesperado fenómeno cultural y comercial en Europa, Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos (en ese orden). Argentina no fue la excepción. En un contexto signado por una política económica neoliberal y la crisis terminal de la industria editorial local, la importación de manga fue leída por muchos como una invasión ruinosa para la historieta nacional. Sin negar el carácter asimétrico de la circulación, proponemos aquí que el caso de la editorial argentina Ivrea, especializada en historieta japonesa, ofrece un ejemplo idóneo para pensar la agencia de actores locales en la circulación cultural a escala global. Como veremos en las siguientes páginas, la editorial jugó un rol insoslayable en el proceso de glocalización, como lo llama Roland Robertson (1995), mediante el cual un producto de cultura masiva japonés devenido en fenómeno editorial mundial se convierte en un consumo apto para el lectorado argentino. En esa serie de decisiones editoriales y operaciones simbólicas tomadas por los actores locales encontramos el surplus que separa a la situación inicial y la de destino en el proceso de mediación, traducción, traslado. Una transferencia que siempre es también transformación.In the context of an acceleration of the circulation of cultural products, Japanese comics and cartoons or, respectively manga (漫画) and anime (アニメ), became in the late 20th century an unexpected cultural and commercial phenomenon in Europe, Latin America and the United States (in that order). Argentina was no exception. In a context marked by a neoliberal economic policy and the terminal crisis of the local publishing industry, the importation of manga was read by many as a ruinous invasion for the national comic. Without denying the asymmetrical character of circulation, we propose here that the case of the Argentine publishing house Ivrea, specialized in Japanese comics, offers an ideal example to think about the agency of local actors in cultural circulation on a global scale. As we will see in the following pages, the publishing house played an unavoidable role in the process of glocalization, as Roland Robertson (1995) calls it, through which a Japanese mass culture product turned into a worldwide publishing phenomenon becomes a consumer product suitable for the Argentine readership. In this series of editorial decisions and symbolic operations taken by local actors we find the surplus that separates the initial situation and the destination in the process of mediation, translation, transfer. A transfer that is always also transformation
La violencia feminicida desde la literatura y el derecho internacional y penal
Full text linkEste artículo se dedica a explorar la forma en la que la manifestación más extrema de la violencia de género, el feminicidio, es interpretado, por un lado, por el sistema jurídico de Colombia, y, por otro lado, por un texto paradigmático de la literatura contemporánea latinoamericana: la novela Los divinos (2018) de Laura Restrepo. En un primer paso se va a introducir el concepto de feminicidio y su evolución normativa, para luego pasar a las dinámicas de transferencia y transformación relevantes para el presente estudio de caso, poniendo un enfoque en la interpretación del pensamiento interseccional tanto en la novela como en su marco legal factual.This article is dedicated to explore the ways in which the most extreme manifestation of gender violence, known as feminicide, is interpreted on the one hand by the Colombian legal system, and on the other hand, by a paradigmatic text of contemporary Latin American literature: the novel Los divinos (2018) by Laura Restrepo. In a first step, the concept of feminicide and its normative evolution will be introduced. The second part then deals with the dynamics of transference and transformation relevant to the present case study, focusing on the interpretation of intersectional thinking both in the novel and in its factual legal framework

Transculturalidad en "Los diarios de Emilio Renzi" de Ricardo Piglia
Full text linkLa transculturalidad en el testimonio de Ricardo Piglia (1940-2017) como autor argentino en Los diarios de Emilio Renzi (2015) observada a través de diferentes procesos ocurridos entre finales de los años cincuenta y la segunda década del siglo XXI. El artículo muestra las diversas estrategias de crítica al campo literario local que se encuentran en la obra de Piglia, sus formulaciones sobre la tradición y la lectura de literaturas extranjeras, el concepto de traducción como estrategia de apropiación cultural, y la mirada que hay en el texto sobre la situación de autoría en el ámbito de la posmodernidad.Transculturality in the testimony of Ricardo Piglia (1940-2017) as an Argentine author in Los diarios de Emilio Renzi (2015) observed through different processes that occurred between the late 1950s and the second decade of the 21st century. This article displays de diverse strategies of critique of the local literary field that are part of Piglia´s work, his arguments about tradition and the reading of foreign literatures, the concept of translation as an strategie of cultural appropriation, and the sight that the text brings on authorship within the context of posmodernity
Hibridez e intermedialidad en la revista UNI/vers(;)
Full text linkA continuación propondré un análisis de las revistas ensambladas, un tipo de publicación experimental nacida en la década de 1970 en el marco de una tendencia artística mayor conocida como arte-correo. En particular examinaré la revista internacional UNI/vers(;) publicada en Alemania entre 1987 y 1995, y editada por Guillermo Deisler.Desde una perspectiva teórica, busco explorar las relaciones entre diferentes medios en un objeto artístico con los procesos de hibridación y transferencias culturales que en el marco de esas configuraciones mediales se producen. Siguiendo a De Toro, el concepto de hibridez se emplea en diversas disciplinas, y, por tanto, varias acepciones. Dentro de ellas, la definición de Canclini representa un primer acercamiento de la hibridez hacia el problema de la transmedialidad.El objetivo de este artículo es discutir esta tesis, tanto la de Canclini como la de De Toro, y proponer un desplazamiento hacia el problema de la intermedialidad como una alternativa que apunta con mayor especificidad a las relaciones de hibridación medial que se dan en las revistas ensambladas y en el caso específico de UNI/vers(;). Al mismo tiempo, exploraré el vínculo entre hibridez e intermedialidad con el fin de conectar, en el contexto del arte y la literatura contemporánea, la dimensión medial y cultural como dos problemas centrales para el análisis de la cultura actual.In the following article, I will propose an analysis of assembled magazines, a type of experimental publication born in the 1970s within the framework of a more significant artistic trend known as mail art. In particular, I will examine the international magazine UNI/vers(;) published in Germany between 1987 and 1995 and edited by Guillermo Deisler.From a theoretical perspective, I seek to explore the relationships between different media in an art object with the processes of hybridization and cultural transfers that occur within these media configurations. Following De Toro, hybridity is used in several disciplines and, therefore, with several meanings. Among them, Canclini’s definition represents the first approach of hybridity to the problem of transmediality.Therefore, this article aims to discuss both Canclini’s and De Toro’s theses to propose a shift towards the problem of intermediality, now seen as an alternative to speciate the relations of medial hybridization that occur in the assembled magazines; precisely, in the case of UNI/vers(;). At the same time, I will explore the relationship between hybridity and intermediality in the context of contemporary art and literature to relate the medial and cultural dimensions as two central problems for analyzing current culture
