Full text linkZwischen 1945 und 1990 wurden Millionen von Kindern in der BRD und DDR auf ärztliche Anordnung für mehrere Wochen in Kurheime „verschickt“. Während viele ehemalige Verschickungskinder heute von Gewalterfahrungen berichten, erinnern sich andere positiv an diese Zeit, und das Kurheimpersonal weist jede Schuld von sich. Die wissenschaftliche Erforschung dieses sozialmedizinischen Massenphänomens steht noch am Anfang. Der Beitrag skizziert die bisherige Aufarbeitung am Beispiel des Kurortes St. Peter-Ording. Nach grundsätzlichen Überlegungen zur historischen Gerechtigkeit wird der Frage nachgegangen, wie eine solche Gerechtigkeit im Kontext der Kinderverschickung aussehen kann. Dabei wird auch die Rolle der Forschung in diesem Zusammenhang beleuchtet.Between 1945 and 1990, millions of children in the FRG and GDR were ‘sent’ to convalescent homes for several weeks on doctor\u27s orders. Whilst many former children who were sent away today report experiences of violence, others have positive memories of this time, and the staff at the convalescent homes deny any guilt. Academic research into this socio-medical mass phenomenon is still in its infancy. This article outlines the research to date using the example of the health resort of St. Peter-Ording. After fundamental considerations on historical justice, the question of what such justice might look like in the context of child deportation is explored. The role of research in this context is also examined
Challenging Eurocentrism in Memory and Historiography
Full text linkEinleitend zum Band ‘Global Memories of German Colonialism‘ beleuchtet der Beitrag die Geschichte von Eurozentrismus in nationaler Erinnerung und Globalgeschichtsschreibung. Die Überschneidungen und Widersprüchlichkeiten dieser beiden Felder werden in ihren historischen Dimensionen dargestellt, um die Herausforderungen einer globalen Erinnerungskultur zu skizzieren. Das erste Untersuchungsfeld bildet das Gedenken an Kolonialkriege in Norddeutschland als Fallbeispiel für eine konflikthafte Erinnerung, die in Deutschland bis heute nur in Ansätzen von postkolonialen Impulsen beeinflusst wurde. Anschließend erfolgt ein Fokus auf die europäische Geschichtsschreibung über andere Kontinente seit der frühen Neuzeit und ihre methodologischen Grundlagen. Besonders die Rolle von Oral History und geraubter Manuskripte werden dabei berücksichtigt, um die Widersprüchlichkeiten in europäischer Erinnerung und Geschichtsschreibung zum Kolonialismus hervorzuheben.As an introduction to the volume ‘Global Memories of German Colonialism’, the article sheds light on the history of Eurocentrism in national memory and global historiography. The overlaps and contradictions between these two fields are presented in their historical dimensions in order to outline the challenges of a global culture of remembrance. The first field of investigation is the commemoration of colonial wars in northern Germany as a case study of conflicted remembrance, where the influence of post-colonial impulses has so far been limited. This is followed by a focus on European historiography on other continents since the early modern period and its methodological foundations. In particular, the role of oral history and looted manuscripts is considered to highlight the contradictions in European memory and historiography on colonialism

No full textDieser Band dokumentiert die Reden zweier Gedenkfeiern, die die Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft der Universität Hamburg zur Würdigung ihrer langjährigen Mitglieder Albrecht Zeuner (1924–2021) und Michael Köhler (1945–2022) in den Jahren 2022 und 2023 veranstaltet hat. Zeuner hatte in den Jahren 1961 bis 1990 eine Professur für Zivilprozessrecht, Bürgerliches Recht und Arbeitsrecht inne; Köhler wirkte von 1983 bis 2010 als Professor für Strafrecht, Strafprozessrecht und Rechtsphilosophie. Beide Juristen prägten auf je ihre Weise die Lehre und Forschung an der Fakultät über längere Zeiträume und auch noch als Emeriti maßgeblich mit. Die Veröffentlichung der insgesamt zehn Reden versteht sich als Beitrag zur Geschichte der Fakultät für Rechtswissenschaft und damit zur Geschichte der Universität Hamburg.This volume documents the speeches delivered at two commemorations held by the Faculty of Law at the University of Hamburg in 2022 and 2023, respectively, to honor its long-standing members, Albrecht Zeuner (1924–2021) and Michael Köhler (1945–2022). Zeuner held a professorship for civil procedural law, civil law, and labor law from 1961 to 1990; Köhler served as professor of criminal law, criminal procedural law, and legal philosophy from 1983 to 2010. Both lawyers, each in their own way, significantly shaped teaching and research at the faculty over extended periods, even as emeritus professors. The publication of these ten speeches is intended as a contribution to the history of the Faculty of Law and thus to the history of the University of Hamburg

In dem vorliegenden Buch sind Beiträge aus des geschichtswissenschaftlicher, juristischer, theologischer und archivwissenschaftlicher Perspektive versammelt, in denen die Autorinnen und Autoren eine Annäherung an das Thema der Historischen Gerechtigkeit aus ihrem jeweiligen Blickwinkel wagen und sich dabei methodischen Herausforderungen und inhaltlichen Fragen stellen: Wie kann in der Retrospektive überhaupt methodisch sauber umschrieben werden, was Unrecht war und was nicht? Wie weitreichend kann ein Konzept von historischer Gerechtigkeit als Grundlage historiographischer Arbeiten sein kann? Auf welchen theoretisch-methodischen Grundannahmen basiert ein solches Konzept? Lassen sich Vorstellungen von Historischer Gerechtigkeit gleichermaßen auf verschiedene Epochen anwenden? Und welche Rolle können Archive in diesem Zusammenhang spielen? Dabei wird der zeitliche Bogen von der Frühen Neuzeit bis in das 21. Jahrhundert gespannt.What is historical justice? This book brings together contributions from historical, legal, theological and archival perspectives, in which the authors venture to approach the topic of historical justice from their points of view and, in doing so, address methodological challenges and new questions: How can we describe in retrospect in a methodologically accurate way what was wrong and what was not? The edited volume ‘Global Memories of German Colonialism’ aims to decenter the metropole, while at the same time offering points of comparison and interconnection by including contributions from scholars and artists from Cameroon, Namibia, Tanzania and also Germany. The volume thus provides a variety of perspectives on the field of global memories of Germany’s (post-)colonial entanglements and its role in European expansion – from memorials, memory cultures and oral history to contemporary artistic approaches to dealing with the colonial past.Over a century after the end of formal German rule in its colonial empire, the international debate on its aftermath is arguably more vibrant than ever. Ziel war es, schöpferische Energie durch klare Rahmenbedingungen, sinnliche Anreize und gemeinsames Erkunden musikalischer Formen zu fördern. Improvisation und Komposition werden als erfahrungsbasierte Lernwege verstanden, in denen Regeln Orientierung bieten, um Freiheit überhaupt zu ermöglichen. Vom körperlichen Klangerzeugen über rhythmische Pulsübungen bis zu grafischen Partituren wird das kreative Tun Schritt für Schritt erfahrbar gemacht. Strukturiertes Experimentieren, Zuhören, Pausensetzung und gemeinsames Entscheiden führen in einen Prozess, in dem Kinder und Jugendliche eigenständig musikalische Ordnungen erschaffen. So entsteht aus begrenzten Materialien eine offene Lernkultur, die künstlerisches Forschen, Kommunikation und Selbstwirksamkeit miteinander verbindet.The practical workshop “Improvisation and Composition with Children and Youth” is dedicated to cultivating the courage for open musical processes. Its aim was to nurture creative energy through clear frameworks, sensory stimuli, and collective exploration of musical forms. Improvisation and composition are understood as experience-based pathways to learning, where rules provide orientation in order to make freedom possible in the first place. From physical sound production and rhythmic pulse exercises to graphic scores, creative engagement unfolds step by step. Structured experimentation, attentive listening, the conscious use of pauses, and collaborative decision-making lead participants into a process in which children and youth create their own musical structures. Out of limited materials emerges an open learning culture — one that unites artistic inquiry, communication, and a sense of agency

No full textDer Kunsthistoriker Frank Schmitz hebt in seinem Vortrag hervor, dass die Architekten des Philosophenturms ihr 1962 fertiggestelltes Bauwerk als ein gestaltetes Zeichen für eine bestimmte Auffassung von Universität verstanden – hin zu einer diskursiven, offenen und kritischen Hochschule. Der Beitrag analysiert den Symbolgehalt des Gebäudetypus Hochhaus, der für Universitäten damals durchaus ungewöhnlich war, nimmt internationale Vergleiche vor und erklärt, warum der Begriff des „Elfenbeinturms mit Fenstern“, geprägt von dem berühmten, 1933 aus Hamburg ins US-amerikanische Exil vertriebenen Kunsthistorikers Erwin Panofsky, gerade für den Philosophenturm passend erscheint.In his lecture, art historian Frank Schmitz emphasizes that the architects of the Philosophers’ Tower saw their building, completed in 1962, as a symbolic representation of a particular conception of the university – namely, a discursive, open and critical institution of higher education. The article analyzes the symbolic meaning of the high-rise building type, which was quite unusual for universities at the time, makes international comparisons and explains why the term “ivory tower with windows”, coined by the famous art historian Erwin Panofsky, who was exiled from Hamburg to the United States in 1933, seems particularly apt for the Philosophers’ Tower
