Editorial: Immunometabolic alterations linked to affective disorders and other mental illnesses

    No full text
The relationship between the immune response and mental health has shifted from being an emerging hypothesis to becoming a central focus in contemporary psychiatric research. The immune system, whose primary function is to defend the organism and maintain homeostasis, responds adaptively to infections or tissue damage. However, when this response becomes dysregulated, it can turn pathological and contribute to the development of a range of diseases. Today, we know that environmental factors that may lead to chronic stress, traumatic events, or prolonged adversity can activate inflammatory pathways even in the absence of external agents. This phenomenon has opened a field of research: the role of immunometabolic alterations in mental disorders. Over the past decades, depression has become the mental disorder that probably best illustrates this relationship. Clinical, epidemiological, and experimental studies have demonstrated associations between systemic and brain inflammation and depressive symptoms, and specific immunological profiles have been described according to diverse symptom profiles. These findings have fueled an intensive search for biomarkers that may improve diagnostic stratification, risk prediction, and the development of personalized interventions. However, many questions remain unanswered. This Research Topic gathers evidence from four original articles that, from different methodological perspectives, deepen our understanding of this research area within the framework of translational psychiatry.2025-2

Analysis of the environmental behavior of steels and coatings for their use in power plants construction

    No full text
This work presents a cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment (LCA) of several of the most typical steels, coatings, and deposition processes used in electrical energy production plants, with the aim of studying specific effects of components and processes, as well as evaluating the emission of polluting substances. Results for the uncoated steels proved that elements such as V and Co had a detrimental effect on their environmental performance, while the presence of Ti was associated with lower impacts. Likewise, Ni and Cr content did not seem to have a direct relationship with their behavior, so preference for ferritic or austenitic steels could not be established. It was also demonstrated that the presence of Nb in the coating and the electrical consumption required by the deposition process had an unfavorable influence on the system's environmental impacts. A general pattern could be observed for the emissions of polluting substances, being higher for coatings and deposition processes than for uncoated steels, although there are specific characteristics for each case. This work represents an advance when it comes to analyzing the specific environmental effects of certain components and processes involved in power plants, as well as the quantification of polluting emissions associated.Wiley SCIENCES on behalf of American Institute of Chemical Engineers2025-2

The use of active strategies in Geography and History Classrooms in Secondary School

    No full text
This study analyses the use of active teaching strategies in geography and history classrooms inCompulsory Secondary Education between September 2020 and June 2023. For data collection, aquestionnaire has been validated as a measurement instrument, which aims to investigate the didacticstrategies incorporated in the area of geography and history. Out of a total of 365 responses, cooperativelearning is the most used methodology, followed by project-based learning and problem-based learning; toa lesser extent, flipped classroom and gamification, and finally, service-learning has a very low use inGeography and History classrooms. These approaches promote active student participation, thedevelopment of critical thinking, and the practical application of knowledge. In addition, the analysis showsthat teachers combine several active methods in the face of different educational needs. From the findingsdetected, we suggest the need to reflect on the limitations of the implementation of these teaching strategiesand to find the appropriate channels for teacher training in them and an advance in the field of SocialSciences teaching at Secondary level.2024-2

La recuperación de los mitos del folclore español en la didáctica de la asignatura Lengua Castellana y Literatura en el primer ciclo de la ESO

    Get PDF

The integrable Rosenau–Hyman equations: analysis, symmetries, and their geometric content

    No full text
We analyse the eleven integrable equations of the Rosenau–Hyman (RH) family. These integrable equations were classified in Euler et al. (Discrete Contin Dyn Syst Ser A 40:529–548, 2020). The n = m = −2 case is one of the integrable instances of the RH family. We consider this specific example, and we examine boundedness of solutions and existence and behaviour of travelling waves. We also compute local and nonlocal symmetries for all the integrable RH equations, showing that these equations have very different structural properties; we exhibit some explicit solutions and, finally, we prove that all integrable RH equations describe one-parameter families of pseudo-spherical surfaces and that therefore they may be amenable of analysis via scattering/inverse scattering.2024-2

ANFIS-PSO analysis on axisymmetric tetra hybrid nanofluid flow of Cu-CNT-Graphene-Tio2 with WEG-Blood under linear thermal radiation and inclined magnetic field: A bio-medicine application

    Get PDF
Background: The development of heat transfer devices used for heat conversion and recovery in several industrial and residential applications has long focused on improving heat transfer between two parallel plates. Numerous articles have examined the relevance of enhancing thermal performance for the system’s performance and economics. Heat transport is improved by increasing the Reynolds number as the turbulent effects grow. Applications: Regarding heat transfer, hybrid nanofluids are superior to mono nanofluids. The hybrid fluid of Cu-CNT + Graphene + TiO 2 /WEG-Blood, which is subject to heat transfer in a channel between two parallel plates with an angled magnetic field and linear thermal radiation, has numerous applications in engineering, industry, and biomedical research, such as electronic cooling, drug delivery, cancer treatment, optics, missiles, satellites, transformer-electronic cooling, and military solar-equipment. Objective: Examining the qualities of mass, flow, and heat transmission is the aim of the study of a hybrid Cu-CNT- Graphene-TiO2/WEG-Blood nanofluid as it moves via a tube of porous material that is exposed to linear thermal radiation, inclined magnetic, Forchheimer, and buoyancy inf luences. ANFIS-PSO model is assumed. Method: Applying the ODE45 integration technique to the given numerical solutions yields nonlinear, non-dimensionalized, and highly partial differential equations that control the momentum, energy, and concentration. Consequently, the numerical simulation shows the concentration, velocity, and temperature profiles of the hybrid Cu-CNT- Graphene-TiO2/WEG-Blood nanofluid. A strong concordance is noted between recent and past results.2024-2
