A comparison of the literary criminalistic investigators Nikola Banić and Ivo Remetin

    No full text

Portrayal of women in nazi propaganda

Propaganda is considered a crucial factor in the success of the Nazi regime in Germany, with the historian Robert Edwin Herzstein stating that propaganda is “The War That Hitler Won.” (As cited in Bytwerk, 2004) A part of this propaganda war was centered on women and their contributions to the Third Reich, yet it is rarely discussed in this context. Looking into this part of the Nazi propaganda can be important to uncover the reasons for complicity and cooperation, what effects this type of propaganda had on women of the time and methods that were successful. Research so far was mostly focused on the widespread effects of Nazi propaganda, with a small amount being specifically about women. This was possibly due to the age of the material and the relatively recent arisal of feminism. The goal is to examine the key messages perpetuated through the Nazi Party propaganda, the image women were expected to embody and roles they were expected to take within the society. The ideal of the ideal Nazi woman was relatively uniform and stable throughout the duration of the Third Reich, conveyed through various forms of media and perpetuated by not only the men, but by women in the regime too.Propaganda is considered a crucial factor in the success of the Nazi regime in Germany, with the historian Robert Edwin Herzstein stating that propaganda is “The War That Hitler Won.” (As cited in Bytwerk, 2004) A part of this propaganda war was centered on women and their contributions to the Third Reich, yet it is rarely discussed in this context. With the advent of digitalization and new media, organizations have implemented online communication in their daily lives, which has led to numerous innovations in employee communication in their workplace. Interpersonal communication enables instant feedback and non-verbal communication which contributes to active listening which is extremely important for employee satisfaction. Online communication offers the possibility of very fast change of information and availability of information channels at any time and in any place, which came to the fore in the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this paper is to explore the changes and innovations brought by new media in interpersonal communication and relationships in the work environment, and the satisfaction of communicators with a new way of communicating. The research was conducted using a survey method of 210 respondents in the employment relationship and offered conclusions on how employees choose interpersonal communication in the work environment and consider it the deepest. They like to use online communication for its speed and availability, but agree that it can be a source of misunderstanding. The novelities that new media has brought to communication in the work environment does not have to contradict interpersonal communication. That is why it is important for employee satisfaction to understand these changes, new media and the default of online communication, and to practice interpersonal communication skills so that the entire communication in the organization is as high quality and purposeful as possible

Online upitnik, uz socio-demografska pitanja sadržavao je World Health Organisation quality of life questionnaire – BREEF (WHOQOL Group, 1998), WHO procjenu pretrpljenog nasilja (WHO, 2005), Rosenbergovu skalu samopoštovanja (Rosenberg, 1965), Kratku skalu otpornosti (Smith i sur., 2008) i Skalu socijalne podrške (Macdonald, 1998). Dobiveni rezultati doprinose boljem razumijevanju različitih obilježja korisnica sigurnih kuća, njihovog iskustva s različitim oblicima nasilja i činitelja koji doprinose kvaliteti njihova života. During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, police officers recorded an increase in cases of domestic violence in the Republic of Croatia, which emphasizes the importance of research on this issue. The objective of this study was to describe the socio-demographic profile of women who are safe house users in terms of domestic violence and to ascertain the determinants of mental and physical health along with satisfaction with the general quality of life. The study involved 43 female victims of intimate partner violence (Mage=36,51, SD=10,80). All participants temporary lived in safe houses in the Republic of Croatia. Data was collected through an online questionnaire in collaboration with safe house employees. The online questionnaire, along with socio-demographic questions, included the World Health Organisation quality of life questionnaire – BREEF (WHOQOL Group, 1998), the WHO Operational definitions of violence (WHO, 2005), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (Rosenberg, 1965), The Brief Resilience Scale (Smith i sur., 2008,) and the Social Support Scale (Macdonald, 1998). The results show that most of the women victims of domestic violence belong to the 31 to 35 age group and have two children. Their highest level of education is commonly high school and they are mostly unemployed. Typically, women who participated in the study experienced several forms of psychological, physical, and sexual violence from their partner, which, in most cases, they have personally reported to the police. Pearson's correlation coefficient established a positive correlation between satisfaction with general quality of life, satisfaction with the environment, psychological resilience, self-esteem, social support, and mental and physical health. The predictor variables of psychological resilience, environmental satisfaction and social support explained 22.9% of physical health variance, 46.5% of the mental health variance and 26.7% of the satisfaction with the general quality of life variance. The most important predictor of physical health is psychological resilience, while environmental satisfaction is the most important variable in explaining mental health. Environmental variables (social support and environmental satisfaction) are more important in explaining satisfaction with general quality of life. The obtained results enable a better understanding of the characteristics of the users of safe houses, their experience with various forms of violence and the determinants that contribute to their quality of life. This alows the creation of services that help meet their needs and increase their quality of life

The multidisciplinary team (mdt) in the treatment of head and neck cancer – a single institution experience

    No full text
Head and neck cancers are associated with significant morbidity and mortality despite advancements in treatment in recent decades. A multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of these diseases is thus of essential importance and is becoming the gold standard. Head and neck tumors also endanger relevant structures of the upper aerodigestive tracts, including bodily functions such as voice, speech, swallowing, and breathing. Damage to these functions can significantly influence quality of life. Thus, our study examined not only the roles of head and neck surgeons, oncologists and radiotherapists, but also the importance of the participation of different scientific professions such as anesthesiologists, psychologists, nutritionists, stomatologists, and speech therapists in the work of a multidisciplinary team (MDT). Their participation results in a significant improvement of patient quality of life. We also present our experiences in the organization and work of the MDT as part of the Center for Head and Neck Tumors of the Zagreb Clinical Hospital Center

From the Projection of Human Organs to the Projection of an Artificial Man: Current Framework of Philosophy of Technology

    No full text
Based on the thesis of Ernst Kapp about the projection of organs during the initial creation of tools, the current article tries to show that this thesis still has its implications today. Indeed, if Kapp claims that the man created tools by observing his organs and their functionality, then it should also be stated that today, from a technical point of view, the man has reached the position of projecting technically sophisticated tools for the replacement of human organs. There is an increasing tendency of human organ replacement aiding, and in many ways facilitating, human life, but also conscious and coordinated cyborgization and robotics with the aim of accelerating and improving that same life to the level of challenging a new stage of its evolution. Thus, the current framework of the philosophy of technology emerges, which was mainly initiated by Kapp’s thesis

LOGICAL FORMALIZATION OF EVIDENCE IN EVIDENTIAL LANGUAGES

    No full text
The goal of this dissertation is to logically describe the phenomenon of evidentiality obligatory and grammaticalized statement of a certain justication or proof for a given statement and to observe the application elds in which such a formalization could be implemented, along with philosophical and linguistic insights as a result of such logic. Linguistic classication is studied typologically and analyzed from an evidential-hierarchy perspective. In other words, we are analyzing which evidential markers are stronger, i.e. which are inuencing the formation of knowledge or truth of a certain statement for a certain speaker. Such ndings are being connected to philosophy of language, but also epistemology, on the basis of which a logical formalization is being constructed

The lasting impact of war experiences on quality of life in long-lived retirement homes residents: The birth cohort 1906–1928

    No full text
Only a few studies have been conducted so far on the long-term impact of war. We investigated whether a life-long impact of the war experiences could be detected in advanced-agers who have successfully overcome all life's challenges. The participants in this study were oldest-old (80+ years) residents of retirement homes in Zagreb (Croatia), who were divided into two groups – ‘war-exposed’ and ‘not-exposed’ – according to their direct war experience (First World War, Second World War, Croatian Homeland War). Within this 1906–1928 birth cohort, a higher percentage of participants with war experiences reached extreme longevity (95+ years). We found no significant difference (p < 0.01) between the two groups concerning demographic and socio-economic characteristics, their life satisfaction, their self-rated current health and functional ability status. Despite numerous similarities, several traits related to life-history, current quality of life, attitudes and reflections distinguish the group of participants with direct war experience. The kind of war involvement – active military service, imprisonment in concentration camps or prisons, forced migration due to war and war- related death of close family members – stretched through various aspects of the life-history features, quality of life and attitudes. It differed for men and women, so it is no wonder that the significance pattern in the two genders mostly seems mutually exclusive. Socio-economic situations strongly differed by gender and according to the kind of war exposure, amplifying the differences within the ‘war-exposed’ group in terms of the life-long impact of wars on their lives. Therefore, we could claim that the war experiences were not the same for everybody, and that they had lasting consequences on the lifecourse of persons who directly faced war- related events. The results also point to the high resilience capacity as a common feature among persons who survived direct exposure to at least two wars and yet survived to exceptionally old age
