The regulatory impact of a harmonized artificial intelligence regulation proposal on the clinical research landscape in the European Union
CC BY-NC-ND 4.0This article offers a critical analysis of how the proposed Artificial Intelligence
Act (AIA) will support the rights, safety, dignity, and well-being of clinical research participants and ensure the availability of reliable and robust data as described in Clinical
Trials Regulation (EU) No. 536/2014. Analysis is focused on how the proposed regulation will impact clinical research conducted within the European Union. The proposed
artificial intelligence regulation is evaluated based on what it will bring to the multiple
stakeholders in clinical research – including sponsors, investigators, patients, society –
and how it would align with the core principles of the Clinical Trials Regulation
Influence of intercultural competence on an organisation’s success and personal career: the case study of Lithuania
CC BY-NC-ND 4.0This paper aims to identify the influence of intercultural competence on an
organisation’s success and personal career in Lithuania. The study described in this
paper is a part of international research on intercultural competence. An online
questionnaire survey was conducted in Lithuania with non-probability convenience
sampling to find out the views of employees working in different sector organisations.
The survey was filled out by 1193 respondents from Lithuania. Employees’ intercultural
competence (knowledge/cognitive dimension, skills/behavioural dimension, and
attitudes/emotional dimension) was evaluated using 5-point Likert items and is
elaborated elsewhere. The multivariate analysis was used to analyse the survey data
and test three hypotheses stating that (1) employees support the notion that higher
intercultural competence can foster an organisation’s success and personal career, (2)
organisations tend to leave the development of intercultural competence to employees,
and (3) current intercultural knowledge and skills are inadequate to operate in
a multicultural work environment. The analysis showed that half of the respondents
agreed with the statement that the development of intercultural competence (ICC)
helped the personal career and an organisation’s success. The statement regarding
organisations tending to leave the intercultural competence development to their
employees was only supported by less than one-third of the respondents. Besides, the
data did not fully support the statement that employees’ current intercultural
knowledge and skills were inadequate to operate in a multicultural work environment,
as no more than one-third of the respondents had frequent or very frequent issues
when communicating with foreigners due to inadequate intercultural knowledge and
skills in various sub-areas. The paper elaborates on detailed results
Bionomical terrorism: the challenge for contemporary Nigerian leadership
This paper argues that the failure of contemporary Nigerian leadership is due to the extension and
incessant activities of the terrorist groups in Nigeria. The prolonged violent acts of bombing, hostage-taking and
genocide in Nigeria, by Boko Haram sect, kidnappers and bandits, have unleashed havoc on Nigerians, and, in
turn, posed a great challenge to effective Nigeria leadership. As the paper acknowledges that the seemingly
insurmountable leadership difficulty in Nigeria is in connection with ‘bionomical’ terrorism, it, however,
maintains that Nigerian leaders, who have failed in providing for the Nigerian populace, are part of the problems.
On this note, this paper provides an overview of the effects and factors responsible for the problems of the Nigerian
leadership. It challenges the government’s idea of recruiting and giving amnesty to the repentant terrorists. Hence,
their repentance or denouncement could be a trick to accomplish their mystified missions. The paper recommends
conversationalism, as a method, for inclusive leadership and aversion of the terrorists’ pummel ling threats,
instigated by poverty, religious, political, ethnic cleavages and variables
Analysis of the Critical Infrastructure Cyber Security Policy
CC BYCritical infrastructures are complex operating environments that often require special protection and security. A successful
security strategy design should adhere to the principles of durability, integrity, and regularity. In the European Union, there is a strong
interest in the security of critical infrastructures, especially those with interdependence. Given the fact that critical infrastructures play an
essential role in a country’s economy, it makes them even more vulnerable. The main aim of this article is to analyze the critical
infrastructures’ cyber security policy. The creation of a security strategy requires identification of the needs for equipment, mode of
operation, and required security level. It has to establish rules for precise operation and handling of situations. The article tackles the issues
of security strategy for critical infrastructures to protect sensitive areas and sectors. In addition, a cybersecurity policy as a countermeasure
is discussed
The Evaluation of Economic Corridors Impacts to Logistics Performance of European Countries
Economic corridors are a phenomenon of complex nature aiming to solve the problem
of territorial inequality. The introduction of the “One belt, one road” initiative has
led to a new wave of studies investigating the relationship between economic corridors and
logistics performance, where scientists agree that the development of economic corridors is
closely related to the changes in countries’ logistics performance. However, the question of
whether the relationship between economic corridors and logistics performance depends
on different factors was investigated very scarcely in the literature. Moreover, the empirical
evidence of the moderating role of institutional quality in the economic corridors – logistics
performance nexus is insufficient as in existing literature this aspect is analysed only theoretically. Therefore, this thesis, while exploring the complex nature of the economic
corridors phenomenon, has aimed to fill this gap by providing new insights into analysing
the impact of economic corridors on countries’ logistics performance via institutional
effect.
The empirical results point to the fact that better institutions in the country, ease
the development of economic corridors in favor of the quality of logistics services. The impact
of economic corridors on countries’ logistics performance is ambiguous. The meaningful
marginal effect of the impact of economic corridors varies depending on the political
culture of public governance in a particular country, which determines the effectiveness of
institutional quality
Žvalgybinės informacijos rinkimas teismo ekspertizėje
“Criminal intelligence”, “police intelligence” and “operational intelligence”
are the most common terms used to refer to the information gathering process
used by law enforcement agencies to detect criminals and prevent crime. Representatives
of science and practitioners comment on the issue of intelligence
gathering, but mainly forensic scientists and lawyers, agreeing that forensics is
a science appropriate for developing the principles of this operational-exploratory
activity. Intelligence gathering as a method of operational and exploratory
work of law enforcement agencies, by definition, has a special feature, which is
secrecy, which means collecting information in a discreet manner
Linking Educational Tourism to School Curriculum: Elaborating a Nuclear Tourism Route in Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant Region
CC BY 4.0In recent decades, learning at museums and tourist sites has become increasingly
relevant when emphasis has been placed on greater collaboration between the formal
and informal education institutions and stakeholders looking for new opportunities for
learning outside of school. Educational and learning activities in informal settings become
an important domain of educational and cultural tourism, and school tourism is considered a valuable segment of the tourism industry. The authors of this chapter present a
case for creating the atomic/nuclear tourism virtual route Atomic Visaginas https://www.atominisvisaginas.lt/lt/ in Ignalina Power Plant (INPP) region in Lithuania. The research
question raised in this chapter is—what are the opportunities, strategies, and challenges
associated with linking educational tourism activities and products to the curriculum of
formal education? Objectives of the research presented in the chapter reflect the authors’
efforts (1) to reveal opportunities for creating connections between formal school curriculum and nonformal and informal learning outside the school in the settings of educational
tourism destinations; (2) to delineate the specific features of nuclear tourism in Lithuania
by employing a literature review and referring to findings of participatory action research
with the involvement of stakeholders from Ignalina Power Plant (INPP) region; (3) to propose pedagogical strategies and solutions to establish links between geography and history
curricula and the content of the nuclear tourist route in Lithuania
Nacionalinės sveikatos draudimo sistemos įvertinimas: Indonezijos sveikatos draudimo politikos įgyvendinimo tyrimas
CC BY-NC-ND 4.0This study aims to analyse the implementation of Indonesia’s Health Insurance policy,
which has been in effect since 2014. This research uses a qualitative approach to analyse data that
was gathered through observations, interviews, focus group discussions (FGD) and the review of
documents. The respondents in this study consist of three groups: citizens as insurance recipients,
hospital management, and Indonesian national health insurance management institutions. The study
analysed the data using interpretive methods. The results of the study indicate that the National
Health Insurance – Healthy Indonesia Card (JKN-KIS) system is a useful policy, especially in meeting
basic needs within the public health sector. However, there are several problems regarding aspects such
as participation, inappropriate fees, a benefit package system that actually creates fragmentation in
health services, as well as ineffective risk management. The budget deficit within the Social Security
Agency of Health (BPJS Kesehatan) as the policy implementer has placed significant limitations upon
hospitals in providing services as a result of claims that hospital payments are not being paid by BPJS
