Machine Learning Methods for Discourse Marker Detection in Italian
The latest advances in NLP, more precisely NLP Transformers, show great performance in building universal language representations. The trained vectors of words
or sentences can provide unique representation for multiple languages, exclusively extracting semantic information from texts that is mapped into shared embedding space.
This semantic information can be leveraged to train a model for specific downstream
tasks, such as text classification, clustering, and others, while also leveraging semantic
information for language understanding. The resulting model from the training phase
can be universally used for all languages whose shared vector space is encompassed,
thus avoiding the need to train separate models for each language individually
Theoretical Aspects of the Definition and Legal Regulation of Securities in Civil and Common Law Systems
In the current global climate, including the active development
of financial markets, stock trading, and the emergence of new
technologies such as social media, many stocks favored by retail investors
have experienced significant price volatility. This paper aims to outline
the theoretical framework of securities market regulation and to propose
some improvements. It also reviews the various theories and practices
that are used to analyze securities market regulation globally. This research
describes the emergence of securities as a financial instrument. In
the scope of the abovementioned, differences between the legal regulation
of securities and the scientific definitions of researchers are observed. The
author provides a comparative description of approaches to defining the
concept of securities in common law and civil law countries
Citizenship, security and a young person’s perspective
The discussion is focused on critical analysis of sources, with an emphasis on analysis of the contents of
a concept of democracy, its perceptions, assessments and forms of contemporary experiences by young people,
also, on conceptualisation of the concept of security and implications.. The aim of this paper is to present the
theoretical considerations and results of the pilot empiric study on perspectives on security (the paper analyses
the concepts of citizenship and democracy, its history and current state, also some findings of a pilot empiric study
on security are presented). Methods of critical reference analysis and survey were used for the development of this
paper
Audit and criminalistic
This thesis takes up the subject of the usage of forensic
methods in the work of an investigative auditor. The work
aims to show the relationship between forensic science and
investigative audit, indicate their common areas of interest,
and clarify forensic methods adapted to the forensic audit.
The analysis was divided into three chapters: the first – introducing the concept of audit, investigative audit, and its
history; the second – focusing on economic crime and crimes selected from its scope in statistical and normative terms; the
third – describes some methods of forensic examination and
the peculiarities of their application in the context of research
audit practice
LL(O)D and NLP perspectives on semantic change for humanities research
CC BY 4.0This paper presents an overview of the LL(O)D and NLP methods, tools and data for detecting and representing semantic change, with its main application in humanities research. The paper’s aim is to provide the starting point for the construction of a workflow and set of multilingual diachronic ontologies within the humanities use case of the COST Action Nexus Linguarum, European network for Web-centred linguistic data science, CA18209. The survey focuses on the essential aspects needed to understand the current trends and to build applications in this area of study
Lietuvių kalbos diskurso žymikliai daugiakalbiame tekstyne vertimo mokymui
CC BY-SA 4.0The contrastive analysis of discourse markers in Lithuanian and English provides data on the functions of discourse markers to language teachers and translators. The study reveals that there is a tentative tendency for translators to rarely choose to run an explicit discourse marker and leave it only in the implied translation. It is essential that philology students are taught in detail about discourse markers, and TED-MBD is an excellent medium for teaching text coherence
"White collars" on self-reported well-being, health and work performance when teleworking from home
CC BY 4.0In the wake of the pandemic, telework became relevant to more employees than before. Researchers suggest both positive and negative impact of telework on employees.
The study examines office workers’ self-reports on the impact of teleworking on their
subjective well-being, health, and productivity. Data (N = 475) were collected from
teleworkers in Lithuania during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings indicate that teleworking during the pandemic had a negative impact on the well-being (in work-life
balance aspect) and health (mostly in terms of mental exhaustion) of office workers,
while work performance suffered relatively less. Also, this study revealed three original
observations. First, well-being evaluations of teleworkers were found to be most correlated with close relationships and age. Second, teleworkers who live with their parents
have the most positive evaluations of teleworking in all three areas: well-being, health,
and productivity. And third, the overlap between family and work when working from
home increases the likelihood that women and young workers will be less concerned
about healthy living habits. This study contributes to a better understanding of the
factors teleworkers face when working at home and can help companies improve their
hybrid working strategies
An OWL Ontology for ISO-Based Discourse Marker Annotation
Purpose: Discourse markers are linguistic cues that indicate how an utterance
relates to the discourse context and what role it plays in conversation. The authors are
preparing an annotated corpus in nine languages, and specifically aim to explore the
role of Linguistic Linked Open Data (/LLOD) technologies in the process, i.e., the application of web standards such as RDF and the Web Ontology Language (OWL) for
publishing and integrating data. We demonstrate the advantages of this approach
