Pharmacological Screening Of Ethnomedicinal Plants In Rajasthan

    No full text
Approximately 6% of the indigenous population of India resides in the state of Rajasthan. Ethnobotany is the study of the historical and traditional relationship between humans and the plant species in their environment. This relationship has been established over time through necessity, intuition, observation, and experimentation. The ethnobotany of India is considered one of the oldest in the world, and all traditional medical practices have their origins in this field. Rajasthan exhibits a high degree of cultural and biological diversity. WHO has acknowledged the significance of traditional medicine in various regions of the world. ca. 3800 plants species have been identified for their use in traditional herbal medicine. The accurate identification of these unrefined drugs in botanical nomenclature has not been conducted or is still a subject of controversy as diverse authors attribute different plant origins to several unrefined drugs. Furthermore, various complex ailments associated with energy, diabetes, and cognitive decline may be effectively treated through the use of herbal remedies, a feat that is typically unattainable through allopathic medicine. Nevertheless, there is a lack of organized record-keeping of this data. Medicinal plants exhibit a wide distribution across various habitats and landscapes. &nbsp

    No full text
Scale development and validation represent fundamental processes in various disciplines within health, social, and behavioral sciences. However, the methodologies involved can be complex, laden with specialized terminology, unfamiliar to many, and demanding in terms of resources. Moreover, these processes are often not adequately covered in graduate education. Therefore, our aim was to succinctly outline the procedures of scale development in a clear manner, with the dual objectives of facilitating the creation of new, valid, and reliable scales, and enhancing the quality of existing ones. To achieve this, we have compiled a guide outlining best practices for developing scales to measure intricate phenomena. This guide is not a comprehensive systematic review but rather a synthesis of technical literature and insights gleaned from our extensive experience in developing or adapting various scales over several decades. We have identified three overarching phases encompassing nine specific steps. The initial phase involves generating items and assessing their content validity. Subsequently, in the scale construction phase, activities include pre-testing questions, survey administration, item reduction, and determining the scale\u27s dimensionality. Finally, in the scale evaluation phase, dimensionality and reliability testing, as well as validity assessment, are conducted. Throughout the guide, we have incorporated illustrative examples of best practices for each step. In summary, this primer aims to empower both researchers and practitioners to comprehend the conceptual and methodological aspects of scale development and validation, thereby fostering advancements in our understanding of various health, social, and behavioral outcomes

Narrativizing Trauma: A Reading Of Chris Abani’s Becoming Abigail (Abstract)

    No full text
Narrativizing trauma is a complex and problematic issue because the very essence of trauma lies in its defiance of narration. According to Cathy Caruth, trauma “simultaneously defies and demands our witness” and needs to be approached with “language that defies, even as it claims, our understanding” (5). Based upon this theoretical position, this paper attempts to locate trauma in the selected text and examine Abani’s narrativization of trauma. Even as trauma defies linear narration, the paper explores the multiple ways in which the narrative in Becoming Abigail represents traumatic experiences through a careful analysis of the mode of narration

    No full text
Introduction: The incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in trauma patients varies, and fatal pulmonary embolism(PE) may be the first manifestation. Trochanteric femoral fractures result from trauma in younger age groups and may require prolonged immobilization, associated with an increased risk of DVT. Therefore, we sought to determine the occurrence of DVT in patients with intertrochanteric femoral fractures.  Objectives: This study was initiated to assess the incidence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism(PE) in isolated Inter-Trochantric fractures and to determine the need for routine thromboprophylaxis in such patients Methods: This was a prospective study conducted over a period of one and a half years. All patients with isolated femoral intertrochanteric fractures were included. Patients with other known risk factors for DVT were excluded, leaving Inter-Trochantric fracture as their only risk for DVT. All patients were evaluated clinically and by diagnostic methods such as Color Doppler, compression ultrasound, D-dimer analyzes and CT venography (when necessary). Patients were followed for 8 weeks after surgery. Results: A total of 132 patients with Inter-Trochantric fractures were evaluated, of which 84 were men with a mean age of 46 years and 48 were women with a mean age of 57 years. A total of 18 cases of radiologically confirmed DVT were observed. Of these cases, 10 (54%) had clinical DVT. Complete thrombus resolution was observed in all patients, assessed by Color Doppler 6 weeks after diagnosis. Although the majority of cases (12) occurred in patients older than 50 years, this was not statistically significant. No incidence of PE was seen. Conclusion: DVT occurs frequently in patients with intertrochanteric fractures, and all such patients should be routinely examined both clinically and radiologically. If surgery is delayed or the patient is bed ridden for long period, we recommend thromboprophylaxis for this subset of trauma patient

Sustainable Living By Understanding Natural Dyes Used For Textile Dyeing And Their Therapeutic Effects

    No full text
Civilizations throughout the world have used various locally available natural sources like fruits, flowers, leaves, bark, wood, roots insects, and minerals for dyestuff to give colour to their textiles. Till 1856 all dyes were solely derived from natural sources but post 1856, the scenario changed completely. People were introduced to the world of synthetic dyes. These new dyes replaced the natural dyes to such a massive extent that by the mid-19th century in almost all parts of the world, most natural dyes became a lost technology. India was also one of the victims of this change. We lost track of several dye-preparing and developing methods and dye sources. Many of them became fast vanishing knowledge. Though synthetic dyes had many immediate benefits in terms of ease of production and application as well as performance and cost efficiency, they came with a huge cost to pay. This cost was paid by the environment, along with the physical and mental well-being and safety of living beings, especially humans, and the issue of sustainability at large.  Thus, sustainable living became the new world order for saving the planet and saving lives on the earth in this century. This paper is an attempt to explore the possibilities of sustainable living by understanding different aspects related to natural and synthetic dyes used for textile dyeing, their pros and cons as well as differences, and therapeutic effects of natural dyes that can lead to overall wellbeing and sustainable living. Hence, it can be concluded that natural dyes are the colourants of future directed toward sustainable lifestyles. They have multiple therapeutic functions that can successfully ensure human health, overall safety concerns, and well-being. Several people from a variety of fields and institutions at local, state, country, and global levels are making sincere efforts, but most of these efforts are are very small scale or restricted to laboratories. Collaborative and concerted large-scale efforts made in the right direction are the need of the hour.   &nbsp
