In the domain of skill development, the significance of psychological factors has long been recognized, yet a noticeable gap exists in prior research where insufficient attention has been directed towards understanding these crucial elements. Moreover, it has become increasingly apparent that culture plays a pivotal role in mediating the relationship between psychological variables and an individual’s performance. Surprisingly, the exploration of the impact of individualistic and collectivistic values on the performance of sports players has been rather limited. Thus, this study embarks on an investigation to unveil the influence of culture, specifically focusing on the multi-dimensional aspects of individualistic and collectivistic values, on the performance of sports players. To conduct this research, we assembled a sample of 308 respondents, and their data underwent thorough analysis utilizing statistical tools such as SPSS and structural equation modeling. The findings emerging from this comprehensive investigation have unveiled compelling insights. Firstly, the study unearthed a robust and affirmative correlation between individualistic values and the performance of athletes, emphasizing the substantial role of self-oriented values in athletic prowess. Equally noteworthy is the discovery of a parallel positive and significant correlation between collectivistic values and the performance of athletes, underscoring the importance of group-oriented values in the domain of sports achievement. Going beyond the empirical findings, this study also delves into the theoretical contributions it offers to the field. It sheds light on the intricate interplay between culture, individual values, and athletic performance, adding depth to our understanding of this complex relationship. Furthermore, the practical implications of these findings hold great promise for sports coaches, organizations, and policymakers, offering actionable insights into how to leverage cultural values to enhance the performance of sports players. Nevertheless, it is important to acknowledge the study’s limitations, providing guidance for future research endeavors. In conclusion, this research serves as a valuable contribution to the domain of sports psychology by uncovering the profound impact of cultural values on athletes’ performance and offering a nuanced perspective that warrants further exploration and application in the sports arena. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, higher education institutions (HEIs), have been mandated to protect employees from the threats of COVID-19. During the implemented lockdown in the Philippines, only essential school workers (ESWs) were permitted on site, limiting contact and mobility. As such, this study sought to describe the perceptions of ESWs of a selected higher education institution in Metro Manila, Philippines, and how the HEI capacitates them in compliance with national guidelines. Focus group discussions (FGDs) were conducted among four (4) sectors of ESWs: security, maintenance, health services, and office staff. The FGDs were conducted during the period of Enhanced Community Quarantine period year 2021. A total of twenty-three (23) ESWs participated in this qualitative study. Thematic analysis was used to draw insights from the narratives of the FGDs. Results show three (3) emergent themes from the FGDs namely: (l) Physical and Mental Health implications, (2) Changes in Personal Life, and (3) Identified Risks during Working Hours. This study highlights that from the perspective of ESWs, the identified higher education institution strives to comply with the Philippines\u27 Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) guidelines through various expressions of capacitation to protect them from the threat ofCOVID-19. However, results also demonstrate challenges that deter full compliance and consistent implementation of the guidelines across the said institution

Based on the analysis of the findings, the researchers found that Brgy. Tanods and MDRRM volunteers were very motivated to engage in criminal justice volunteerism; while volunteer probation aides were somewhat motivated. Likewise, significant differences were found among the responses of the respondents. In line with the findings and conclusion of the study, the study recommended to attract more volunteers to be part of the organizations as this would greatly help the criminal justice process towards the improved quality of life of the community. Concerned agencies and institutions may conduct activities, programs, and seminars to engage the community in the act of volunteerism and its surprising benefits. It is also recommended that future researchers on the same topic may have a broader scope and include things such as the respondents\u27 profiles to have a more diverse breakdown of the respondents\u27 assessments and the differences in their assessments

Teaching Financial Literacy in Young Age: Perspectives of Teachers and Parents

    Get PDF
Teaching financial literacy (FL) to children at a young age ensures that they have a better understanding of how money works, allowing them to make better financial decisions as they grow older. There appears to be less emphasis in the Maldives on teaching FL to children at a young age. The goal of this research is to look into the perspectives of teachers and parents on FL instruction in Maldivian schools. The perspectives of teachers and parents on teaching FL in school as a separate subject were investigated using a qualitative approach that included semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. Three teachers from a lower grade were interviewed, and three parents from the same grade participated in a focus group discussion. The constant comparative method was used in data analysis. In this study, both teachers and parents agreed that students should receive necessary financial knowledge and improve their own money management skills. Furthermore, participants believe that students become more responsible as a result of the programme. The study\u27s findings revealed that both teachers and parents support teaching FL as a stand-alone subject. Schools may make an effort to teach FL to children, despite the curriculum\u27s limited flexibility. It is hoped that the findings of this study will assist all schools and policymakers who want to improve financial literacy in Maldivian schools
