Livelihood assets are an important factor in livelihood sustainability, especially in the context of food security. Without sufficient livelihood assets, food security status is compromised, especially for low-income people. This situation leads to food insecurity and has implications for the health and well-being of this group. Therefore, this study aims to determine the impact of livelihood assets on the food security status of low-income households in rural Malaysia. The study was conducted among 200 low-income households in the rural areas of Kedah, Malaysia. The Partial Lease Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was used and it was found that human and social assets had a significant and positive relationship with total livelihood assets. Partial Lease Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) was used and revealed that the human and social assets have a significant and positive relationship with overall livelihood assets (p<0.05) as well as the livelihood asset has a significant positive relationship with food security (p<0.01). However, physical assets, financial assets and natural assets were identified as insignificant among rural low-income households in Kedah. The findings suggest that the livelihood status of rural communities and food security should be improved, especially for low-income households in Malaysia and similar countries. Get PDF
There are two types of disputes raised by intellectual property rights. The first is violations such as theft and others. The second is disputes arising from contractual relations and breaches of obligations by one of the parties to the relationship. Determining the jurisdiction of national courts in the settlement of intellectual property disputes is not a problem in the event of a national dispute but in the event that it includes a foreign element, the conflict of jurisdiction is problematic and is resolved through objective or personal controls. In the event that the parties agree to resolve the dispute by arbitration, the jurisdiction might be decided by determining the law applicable to the dispute or might be invoked through contract clauses, citizenship, or other controls. The Challenges Facing the Whistle-Blowers in the Arabian Gulf: Kuwait as a Case Study

    Get PDF
Corruption plays a role in several economic and social crimes. In addition, corruption substantially impacts governmental sovereignty, undermining state institutions and laws, which may put nations at risk of international penalties and sanctions. Whistleblowers of corrupt activities should be given more robust protection assurances to divest the state of corruption. This topic is crucial since corrupt crime predators frequently have considerable knowledge and expertise. Thus, they not only engage in corrupt behaviour but also possess the authority to keep it hidden from law enforcement or other oversight bodies. Whistleblowers who disclose these crimes are under significant pressure; there is a good probability that they may lose their employment. Moreover, if a whistleblower’s case does not succeed, a compensation claim may be made against them. Furthermore, the whistleblower may be held accountable for failing to report crimes if they remain silent. Therefore, stronger protections must be provided for whistleblowers. This paper focuses on the rules and regulations regarding whistleblowers in Kuwait and the GCC, including the history and development of whistleblower regulation and the legal framework. Additionally, this paper includes suggestions and solution proposals regarding whistleblower activity. Keywords: Whistle-blowers – Whistleblowers protection – anti corruptio

Autonomic Dysfunction in Patients with Fibromyalgia

    Get PDF
Fibromyalgia is considered in the medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS) category due to the unclear etiology and pathophysiology of the disease. The aim was to study alterations of autonomic functions in these patients by using heart-based tests, blood pressure (BP)-based tests, and sympathetic skin response (SSR). In this prospective cohort study, patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia (FM) and other healthy subjects were taken in the medical city, Baghdad (Iraq). The case study (n = 47) has been designed to assess the autonomic nervous system functions among patients with fibromyalgia versus healthy individuals. According to the 2010 ACR Fibromyalgia Diagnostic Criteria (Modified 2011), a patient meets the diagnostic criteria for fibromyalgia if the following conditions are met: Widespread Pain Index (WPI) ≥7 and symptom severity (SS) scale score ≥5 or WPI 3-6 and SS scale score ≥9. The outcomes delineated that the female population in the fibromyalgia group explicated significant increases in DBP differences in comparison to the control group. The heart rate variability parameters, including Valsalva ratio and deep breathing E/I ratio, were significantly different between fibromyalgia patients (the experimental group) and healthy individuals (control group). Similarly, the inferences exposed the statistical correlation among the clinical features of groups and their SSR outcomes in fibromyalgia patients. Keywords: fibromyalgia, sympathetic skin response, autonomic function tests

This way, future studies can be developed based on previous results and insights. The study is based on a sample of 108 consumers across of personal care products. The results of the study show that sex appeal played a role in consumer decision-making with more importance on the purchase of personal care products. Introduction: Nurses constitute the majority of health care personnel, and the high turnover and instability of nurse staffing can affect patient outcomes. Systematic education and the support of co-workers and organization are imperative to maintain the current nurse workforce. 1 As nurses are frontline staff in most healthcare contexts, their contribution is essential to the delivery of safe and effective patient care, it is essential that nurses are trained to a high standard. The quality of nursing education, including the clinical placement, is of outmost importance, and research indicates that it influences intent to stay in the nursing profession at a time when nursing shortages are a concern worldwide. 2 The clinical placement is a central component of nursing education. The clinical placement involves learning under the supervision of a healthcare professional within a healthcare organisation and it has been described as a social process requiring active participation. Clinical placements provide the opportunity for nursing students and new nurses to apply theoretical knowledge obtained during their campus-based learning. Furthermore, the clinical placement enables students to develop cognitive and affective skills, to acclimatise culturally) and to develop their professional identity. 3   Objectives:  The objectives of the study are: To assess the knowledge and perception of nurses regarding preceptorship before and after the Preceptorship Development Program To correlate knowledge and perception regarding preceptorship among nurses Methods: A pre-post cohort educational intervention on 200 Nurses from UAE was conducted by total enumeration sampling. Pre-test, PDP training conducted and Post-test after 10 days. A pilot study was done before the main study.    Results: The reliability of the knowledge tool was 0.88, internal consistency of the perception tool was >85%. Feedback from participants showed 38.50% strongly agreed and 61.50% agreed that the workshop improved their ability to utilize the skills in their working area. For main study the overall increase in the mean knowledge scores was from 10.62 to 15.76 which was statistically significant (p<0.001). Overall decrease in perception score from 95.95 to 90.76 which was significant at p<0.001. A weak positive correlation identified before the training which was not statistically significant (p>0.05). A weak negative correlation identified after the training which was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusions: As the tool & the PDP has good reliability & validity. The PDP is effective in training nurses as preceptors in improving knowledge and sensitizing them regarding their perception towards preceptorship.
