Coping techniques cover a broad spectrum of responses and adjustments made in the face of stress, and they can play a significant role in shaping a child\u27s or adolescent\u27s future. In the current study, we looked at how nursing students\u27 ability to cope with stress was influenced by their motivation for success and their familial environment. The cross sectional survey approach was used to collect data for the current study, which was descriptive in nature. The participants consisted of 209 first and third-year nursing students from government and private colleges in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select participants for this current study. In this present study, three standardized instrument were used to measure coping skills inventory by Shrink and Jerabek (1996), family environment scale by Chadha (2000), and Achievement motivation scale by Beena Shah (1986) .Data analysis done by using mean, standard deviation, correlation structural equation modeling, Research findings reveals all the dimensions of coping skills were positively correlated with all the dimensions of achievement motivation.  A positive relationship between the family environment and coping skills is reasonable. Students differed significantly in their coping skills based on their year of study, nature of college, area of living, and parents\u27 education. Final-year students had a higher level of coping skills compared to first-year students. This might be because final-year students have attained a certain level of independence and have perfected their coping mechanisms to deal with stressful situations, as opposed to first-year students who are still adjusting to college life and yet to face challenges. All the magnitudes of the family environment had a significant positive influence on coping skills. Students who express their thoughts to their parents and maintain healthy relationships may have better-coping skills. Furthermore, dimensions of achievement motivation such as academic success, vocational achievement, and social achievement had a significant positive influence on coping. The results of the structural equation modelling demonstrate that academic success and achievement motivation play a larger influence in predicting coping abilities than does the cohesiveness of the family environment

    Get PDF
Introduction – The Covid-19 Pandemic predisposed healthcare workers including dentists to an array of mental health issues. This study was undertaken to assess this psychological impact among dentists in Bangalore during the post-lockdown period of the second wave due to COVID-19. Materials and methods- The cross-sectional study was conducted in the post-lockdown period of the covid-19 pandemic through online questionnaire forms circulated among private dentists registered with the Karnataka Dental Council of India practicing in Bangalore. Multivariate binary logistic regression was employed for the statistical analysis. Results- Among the 843 respondents, 83.5 %, 29.4 %, and 60% were reported to have depression, anxiety, and stress respectively. Regression analysis showed that the concerns about the safety of the dental staff in the clinic setup, that of performing aerosol-producing dental procedures, and the presence of comorbidities predisposed the dentists to these psychological conditions. Confidence in the safety offered by PPE kits used during dental procedures and performing dental procedures that did not produce aerosols had a protective impact against a propensity to these psychological problems. Conclusion- The present study gives a comprehensive picture of the negative psychological impact of the second wave of the covid-19 pandemic on the mental health of dentists in India. The Indian Ocean holds significant importance as it serves as a crucial link connecting oil-rich countries in the Middle East to the rapidly growing economies of the Asia-Pacific region, which have experienced remarkable economic growth over the past three decades. In recent times, the Indian Ocean Region has gained substantial attention from major global powers due to a combination of geoeconomic and geopolitical factors. This increased significance has led various actors to develop specific strategies to secure their interests in the region.China has expanded its influence in the Indian Ocean by establishing connections, providing loans, and constructing infrastructure projects under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). India, on the other hand, has pursued a "neighborhood first" policy to maintain its traditional sphere of influence in the region. Consequently, the Indian Ocean Region has become a focal point for strategic competition, particularly between China and India, as the two powers vie for dominance. This strategic competition has placed countries in the Indian Ocean Region at a critical juncture, compelling them to make choices between the competing influences of China and India. Some countries in the region have adopted a hedging strategy, strengthening their defense capabilities and forming partnerships to counter China\u27s growing power. Others employ alternative strategies to maintain a balance between China and India\u27s influence in the region. In light of this dynamic context, this article aims to provide a detailed analysis of the Indian Ocean Region\u27s importance and the escalating strategic competition between China and India within it. The primary objective of this paper is to examine the differing approaches taken by China and India in the region and to explore the response choices made by indigenous countries in the face of this competition. Through a comprehensive examination, this article aims to enhance understanding of the Indian Ocean Region\u27s significance and shed light on the divergent strategies employed by China and India. Additionally, it seeks to analyze the response choices of indigenous countries as they navigate the rising influence of these two global powers.
