Exploring the Relationship between Mental Well-being and Attendance among Nursing Students: Findings and Recommendations for Enhancing Student Mental Health and Engagement
Introduction: Nursing students\u27 high pressure and psychological consequences during their studies make mental well-being crucial to their academic performance and engagement. Evidence shows that nursing and medical students often suffer from mental health issues such as burnout, stress, anxiety, and depression due to the demanding and complex curriculum, which can impact their attendance and performance in the classroom.
Objectives: This study explores the relationship between mental well-being and attendance among nursing students.
Methods: The study utilized a cross-sectional survey design, with participants consisting of first-semester nursing students who were actively involved in learning. Mental well-being was assessed using a mental well-being scale, while attendance was measured by the number of times students attended class.
Results: The study findings revealed that the correlation test between mental health and absenteeism among nursing program students yielded a p-value of 0.382. Furthermore, the test results for mental health levels between diploma and undergraduate nursing students produced a p-value of 0.080. The mental health difference test between Papuan and non-Papuan students showed a p-value of 0.741. Additionally, the mental health level test for students who met the administrative attendance requirements and those who did not yield a p-value of 0.907.
Conclusions: The study found no significant relationship between mental health and absenteeism among nursing students. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in mental health between diploma and bachelor\u27s degree nursing students, nor between Papuan and non-Papuan ethnicities. Although there was a non-significant difference in mental health between students who met administrative attendance criteria and those who did not, no significant relationship was found between mental health and attendance. The study recommends further research into the causes of mental health problems in nursing students, such as social pressure, dietary patterns, and sleep habits. Expanding research to include nursing students from different universities and regions can provide a broader understanding of mental health problems among nursing students and help develop more effective strategies to address these problems. Additionally, the study recommends conducting more focused research on interventions and programs to improve the mental well-being of nursing students and their involvement in learning. This research on interventions and programs can include mentoring programs, counseling services, and specific mental health promotion programs. Finally, the study suggests conducting in-depth research on the role of the campus and clinical practice environments in the mental well-being of nursing students and their attendance in learning
Effects of Subject Specific Integrated Multisensory Stimulation on Arousal in Traumatic Brain Injury-A Randomized Controlled Trial
Context: Enriched environment aims to improve arousal in subjects with disorders of consciousness. Adding a functional task-based arousal program with added personal salience could possibly enhance the recovery. However, the effect of one such program- “Subject specific integrated multisensory stimulation” on arousal for subjects with acute severe traumatic brain injury is lesser known.
Aim: The objective is to assess the effect of subject specific integrated multisensory stimulation program on arousal following traumatic brain injury.
Setting and design: Parallel arm randomized controlled trial in acute setup (Neuro intensive care unit and neuro wards)
Methods and materials:100 participants with Glasgow’s coma scale score of less than 8 (severe) after traumatic brain injury were allocated under two groups. Control group was administered with Multimodal sensory stimulation program and experimental group with subject specific integrated multisensory stimulation program by a session of 45 minutes thrice a day for 14 days. Coma recovery scale -revised was used to assess arousal. Participants were re-assessed on 7th day and on 14th day of intervention by a blinded outcome assessor.
Statistical analysis used: Analysis of variance test for within group analysis and t-test for between group analysis with level of significance fixed at P<0.05 were used. Sub-group analysis of coma recovery scale revised was also done using same.
Results: Both the groups improved from baseline. However, the improvement by wilks lambda value in the subject specific integrated multisensory stimulation group (0.193) was better compared to that of control group (0.235). Subscale analysis of CRS-R showed better improvements on arousal in the experimental group (0.174) compared to control group (0.290).
Conclusion: Subject specific integrated multisensory stimulation program serves as a better way to facilitate arousal following acute severe traumatic brain injury

Examining the Relationship between E-learning and Academic Performance: A Psychological Perspective
The global COVID -19 outbreaks forced governments to close schools to halt the spread of the disease, which had a momentous effect on the academic pursuits of students both at home and abroad. This sudden shift from conventional classroom teaching to online learning has affected students psychologically. E-learning (E-L) is distinguished by the use of digital platforms, online courses, and virtual classrooms. The goal of this research is to utilize the theory of emotion directive to examine the impact of E-L and emotional intelligence (EI) on the stress, burnout, and academic performance (AP) of Pakistani students. The data (N = three hundred and eighty-seven) is based on distant students registered at ten different Chinese institutions. This study aims to explore the relationship between E-L and AP from a psychological perspective. E-L has become increasingly prevalent in educational settings, providing learners with flexible opportunities to access educational resources and engage in learning activities through digital platforms. Understanding the impact of E-L on AP requires examining various psychological factors that influence learning outcomes. The research demonstrates that students\u27 feelings of study stress, burnout, and AP have been significantly influenced by both E-L and EI. According to these findings, EI and E-L may have an impact on students\u27 AP, study stress, and burnout. The study concludes that EI has a considerable collision on a student\u27s psychological stress. By understanding the psychological factors at play, educators can leverage the advantages of E-L while addressing its limitations, ultimately promoting student achievement and enhancing the quality of online education
