International students’ learning strategies and challenges under an English as a medium of instruction (EMI) setting: A case study at National Taipei University

    Get PDF
English as a medium of instruction, or EMI, is the medium of instruction primarily or entirely in English, where English is not the first language. The effectiveness of English-Medium Instruction (EMI) courses on local students’ academic performance and learning experiences has been studied in Taiwan for decades. However, little research has been conducted on international students’ difficulties and learning strategies in the Taiwanese EMI context. To fill this gap, the researcher collected information from 17 non-English-speaking international students at a public university in Taiwan through observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The research found that differences in English proficiency and strategy adoption between Asian and European international students play a vital role in learning EMI courses. Asian students tended to have lower English proficiency and use social, affective, and cognitive strategies, while European students tended to have higher levels of English proficiency and use metacognitive and cognitive strategies. However, the cognitive strategies of their European peers differed significantly from those of their Asian peers. Interaction with peers, academic and non-academic stressors, and expression in English posed challenges for international student engagement in EMI courses. This research suggests that teachers should ensure inclusiveness in the curriculum and that school administrators should encourage and support international students. Students’ learning experiences in EMI courses may be enhanced by considering international students’ performance and learning styles

    Get PDF
Creativity and intelligence have been one of the most important things in early childhood students due to their hyperactive and adaptation capability to any kind of knowledge. Providing required assessment and proper tasks to proper foster creativity among students requires proper research on the previous existing education models. A focus has to be provided on the training of the teaching professionals to adapt various strategies to foster creativity in the classroom environment. On the other hand, a proper pedagogy framework has been implemented with the ability to adapt to the recent requirements and changes in the schooling format. Students need to be assessed differently based on their interest in the chosen subject. Each student has to be assigned different tasks to ensure their intelligence and creativity enhancement. Impacts have been described based on the nature of the selected model of schooling format

The findings of this study could help define more effective ways in raising awareness and encouraging health-promoting behaviour such as treatment-seeking among the community in Sabah

Psychological Approach based on Virtual Reality (VR) For Creating Successful Encounters to Improve Mobility for People with Disabilities

    Get PDF
There are many untapped potentials for people with disabilities in VR environments, but there are some difficulties as well. Allowing impaired users to customize the VR environment and use alternative input devices is a huge step in removing these barriers and improving their VR experiences. As VR gains prominence in a few years, makers ought to consider into account the needs and viewpoints of people with disabilities, such as including them throughout the designing process, while developing encounters and tools that\u27s truly available for a broad variety of customers. A solution must be made available to a group of people in order to improve their standard of life; it is not sufficient to merely come up with innovative ideas and physiological improvements. This would represent a significant advancement to those more over a million disabled people who may possibly gain from VR. With this study, we hope to highlight current developments in access-improving VR methodologies. We anticipate that our study will serve as an inspiration for scholars interested in working in this area in the months to come

Introduction: Antiretroviral medication (ARV) is an important therapy in the management of HIV infection. Compliance with taking ARV medication is a major factor in achieving succesful HIV/AIDS treatment. Low adherence rates are a major problem in HIV treatment. Factors that affect adherence to taking ARV medication include coping used in dealing with challenges and stress related to HIV treatment. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between coping with ARV medication adherence and medication adherence. Methods: The study population was HIV/AIDS patients who visited the Voluntary Counseling and Test (VCT) Polyclinic at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The inclusion criteria were HIV/AIDS patients who had taken ARV drugs and excluded with the following sample size based on 84 respondents using a purposive random sampling technique. Inclusion Criteria HIV/AIDS patients who have been taking ARV drugs for more than 6 months and have CD4 and Viral load checks. Unvariabel analysis was performed to see the frequency distribution of each variable. The chi square test was used to determine the relationship between coping compliance with antiretroviral drug (ARV) adherence in HIV/AIDS patients. P < 0.05 is significant, and the data were analyzed using SPSS version 21.0. Results: The results of the analysis of the relationship between coping and adherence to taking medication showed that there were 42 people (68.9%) respondents whose coping was ineffective, not adhering to taking medication. Meanwhile, among the respondents whose coping was adaptive, there were 9 people (39.1%) who did not adhere to taking medication. Statistical test results obtained P value = 0.013. Conclusions: Based on the results of data analysis, it showed that there was a significant relationship between coping with adherence to taking ARV medication and adherence to taking medication

A Systematic Review for Uniform Survey tool on Willingness to Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation of Layperson

    Get PDF
Data related to the willingness to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) have been collected using different questionnaires or various hypothetical scenarios for cardiac arrest. Our aim is to propose a uniform survey tool that could reasonably investigate the willingness to perform CPR. Five databases and other sources were systematically searched from February to April 2021 for articles that included willingness or barrier to perform CPR by layperson.  Of the 492 papers obtained, 50 papers were summarized. Then, further selection process brought the number down to 33 after eliminating papers. Each researcher collected data using a different questionnaire and scenario. Training Achievement Inquiry (TAI) as a tool that investigates the willingness to perform CPR was proposed. TAI consisted of the following sections: A. demographic characteristics; B. willingness assessment; C. training tools; and D. outcomes. Research or reporting using TAI would contribute to strengthening CPR attitude education. TAI could be used in research that examines the change in the willingness to perform CPR before and after training and for improving lectures. However, due to the nature of willingness, which belongs to the affective domain, its objective measurement is limited and requires partial revisions of TAI according to research

    Get PDF
This study aims to examine the effects of resilience on career preparation behavior, mediating effects of self-efficacy, and moderating effects of intrinsic motivation in 238 students with disabilities. Reliability analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, path analysis, and bootstrap analysis were conducted. SPSS 22.0 and SPSS Process Macro 4.2 were used for all statistical analysis. Results revealed that resilience, self-efficacy, and intrinsic motivation had a significant positive correlation with career preparation behavior. Moreover, resilience had a significant positive effect on self-efficacy and self-efficacy had a significant positive effect on career preparation behavior. In addition, resilience had a conditional indirect effect on career preparation behavior through self-efficacy, and the higher the level of intrinsic motivation, the more control the indirect effect. With the aforementioned findings, it is recommended that career counseling should be conducted in consideration of disability characteristics, and various programs should be developed to improve resilience, motivation, self-efficacy, and reduce lethargy caused by disability through active acceptance of disability
