Full text linkCereal was the fundamental food for the Mediterranean basin cultures in Antiquity. In this article I undertake an examination of preserved Latin treatises on agriculture and the work of Pliny the Elder, which should help us better understand the varieties of cereal that were grown in ancient Rome. Such body of texts provides broad information on the field where cereals were grown and on how starch, semolina and flour were produced. These were required products used to obtain different kinds of Roman food. Therefore, this article gives an insight into the different types of crops, cereals and food derived from cereal, all of which are witness to the gastronomic heritage of ancient Rome

No full textMossèn Anton Navarro forma part del col·lectiu d’escriptors que, des de finals del segle XIX i durant les primeres dècades del XX, s’impliquen activament en l’impuls i la promoció de l’ús formal de la llengua catalana. Aquest activisme s’expressa en primer lloc a través de la creació poètica i la col·laboració continuada en certàmens poètics i actes culturals arreu de Catalunya, que és l’aspecte més conegut de l’obra d’aquest autor; però també amb algunes traduccions (del llatí al català i del català al castellà) i amb la redacció de textos de caràcter literari, filològic, històric, pastoral o filosòfic que publica amb assiduïtat a la premsa i com a col·laboracions en llibres. En aquest article presentem aquests altres textos i els situem en el context en què es van produir.Father Anton Navarro is part of the group of writers who were actively involved in promoting the formal use of the Catalan language from the end of the nineteenth century to the first few decades of the twentieth century. This activism was expressed first through poetic creation and ongoing participation in poetry contests and cultural events throughout Catalonia, which is the best-known aspect of this author’s work, and secondly with translations (from Latin to Catalan and from Catalan to Spanish) and the writing of literary, philological, historical, pastoral or philosophical texts that he regularly published in the press and as contributions to books. In this article, we present these other texts and situate them in the context in which they were produced.Mosén Anton Navarro forma parte del colectivo de escritores que, desde finales del XIX y durante las primeras décadas del siglo XX, se implican activamente en el impulso y la promoción del uso formal de la lengua catalana. Este activismo se expresa en primer lugar a través de la creación poética y la participación y colaboración continuada en certámenes poéticos y actos culturales en toda Cataluña, que es el aspecto más conocido de la obra de este autor; pero también con algunas traducciones (del latín al catalán y del catalán al castellano) y con la redacción de textos de carácter literario, filológico, histórico, pastoral o filosófico que publica con asiduidad en la prensa y como colaboraciones en libros. Full text linkPrivate jets and blingy sandals: An analysis of the figure of the “rich woman” in contemporary audiovisual culture
Full text linkL’objectiu d’aquest article és analitzar la representació mediàtica de la figura de la «dona rica», una figura que s’ha situat al centre de la cultura popular contemporània. Seguint una aproximació pròpia dels estudis culturals, aquest article estudiarà, a través de l’anàlisi temàtica, una mostra de formats de telerealitat que s’han centrat en aquesta figura: Bling empire; Soy Georgina; La marquesa; First class; Selling sunset; Sálvese quien pueda; Young, famous and African, i Dubai bling. L’estudi identificarà com aquesta figura personifica tensions i ambigüitats vinculades a la idea de desigualtat. Així, aquests programes animen l’audiència a sentir a la vegada aspiració i menyspreu per aquesta figura, i posen en escena debats socials sobre formes legitimades i deslegitimades d’aconseguir ascendir socialment. L’article també explorarà la connexió entre aquestes representacions i un imaginari classista i colonial que, sota la voluntat d’establir una crítica a les desigualtats, manté estereotips a través dels quals les opressions perviuen.The goal of this article is to analyse the media representation of a figure at the heart of contemporary popular culture: the “rich woman”. Taking a cultural studies approach, this article uses thematic analysis to study a sample of reality TV formats which have spotlighted this figure, including Bling Empire, Soy Georgina, La marquesa, First Class, Selling Sunset, Sálvese quien pueda, Young, Famous and African and Dubai Bling. The study identifies how this figure personifies tensions and ambiguities associated with the idea of inequality. Thus, these programmes encourage the audience to feel both aspiration and disdain for this figure, foregrounding social debates on legitimate and illegitimate ways of climbing the social ladder. The article also explores the connection between these representations and a classist, colonial mindset which maintains the stereotypes through which oppressions survive under the guise of critiquing inequalities
