The Exposition of HR Management in A Micro-Business: Kak Yus Soya Case Study
Human resources (HR) plays a key role in any business, regardless of its size. Besides recruiting new hires and optimizing existing staff to keep a business running smoothly, HR is also responsible for boosting employee engagement and productivity. Despite the importance of human resource management (HRM) to every organization’s efficiency, micro-businesses struggle with HR challenges such as staff recruitment, training, and retention. Small businesses, especially family-owned ones, often view HRM as an unnecessary investment. This case study examined appropriate HR activities at a micro-enterprise named “Kak Yus Soya.” The purpose of this case study was to identify disparities between Kak Yus Soya’s HR practices and a theoretical HR framework. The next course of action was to evaluate the company’s preparedness to implement HRM and, from there, to design the most suitable HRM framework in light of the organization’s needs and capabilities. The case study objectives were fulfilled by employing a mixed-method approach that combined qualitative and quantitative data collection. The data-collecting process was designed to allow continuity between the objectives of the case study, where each objective was related to bridging the HR gaps in the organization, which subsequently aided in developing a practical HR framework for Kak Yus Soya. At the end of the study, a structured HRM model for micro-enterprises was created in accordance with the theoretical framework that served as the foundation of this case study. The established HR framework integrated five HR activities: i) assessing employer readiness, ii) HR planning, iii) selection and recruitment, iv) training, and v) performance appraisal. These activities are the fundamental components that a good HRM system must contain

Rural Potential Analysis for The Development of Tourism Villages in Indonesia
This study investigates the potential of rural areas for the establishment and growth of tourist villages. This study was conducted using a descriptive-qualitative research design. The research was conducted in Gedung Wani village, Marga Tiga, East Lampung, Indonesia. The findings revealed that the village of Gedung Wani has natural, economic, and human resources that can be utilised to develop a tourism village. This village's distinctive feature is its natural agricultural tourism. It has local wisdom, which can be seen from the behaviour of the people who are members of the Gewanti Tourism Awareness Group. Despite the local government funds for infrastructural development in potential tourist destinations, the fund is still considered limited, which poses a challenge to the development of a tourist village. The novelty of the research is shown by empirical evidence on the importance of local wisdom values in community groups to support the rural tourism sector. This research is expected to provide policy recommendations for tourist villages in rural areas that have community-based potential. Thus, the development of the tourism sector can support the welfare of rural communities
Insider Trading and Corporate Spinoffs
The study reported here examines insider trading and the issue of undervaluation as a motive behind corporate spinoffs. The results show an unmistakable increase (decrease) in the number of insider purchases (sales) and net purchases (sales) in the four quarters prior to a spinoff announcement. In addition, relative to a benchmark period, insider selling is significantly lower, and their net purchases significantly higher, in the three quarters prior to a spinoff announcement, as compared to other periods. Furthermore, announcement period excess returns for abnormal net insider purchases are significantly higher than excess returns for abnormal net insider sales. However, only firms with abnormal net insider purchases exhibit significant improvement in their long-run market and operating performance after a spinoff. The results seem to suggest that undervaluation is an important motive behind corporate spinoffs and that it is possible to identify the quality of a spinoff firm based on insider trading behavior prior to its announcement
The Dichotomization of Objective and Subjective Outcome Measures of Academic Performance in an Online Learning Environment
Purpose – Various recent studies are perplexed with the situation if subjective measures such as perceptions of learning reflect knowledge gains and whether they can be used as a surrogate for evidence of actual learning in an online learning environment. Due to a rising trend in current research studies interpreting perceptions of learning compared to actual learning as a measure of success, this study investigates the dichotomous measures of objective and subjective measures of academic performance in an online learning environment with selected predicted variables. This is followed by an investigation on the effect of online learning on students’ academic performance prior to and during the Covid environment.
Methodology – This cross-sectional study employed a correlation design for the purpose of data collection among 382 university students. The dependent variable of study comprised objective measures of CGPA scores while the subjective measures was based on a composite score from perceived items in a questionnaire. The predictive independent variables included, i) satisfaction towards online learning, ii) online learning self-efficacy, iii) social interactive engagement in online learning, and iv) online learning environment.
Findings – The findings showed an extremely weak and nonsignificant relationship between actual academic performance (GPA) and perceived academic performance in an online learning environment. A statistically significant increase was notable in
students’ academic performance through GPA scores before and during Covid-19 academic semester and this increase was prevalent among low and intermediate achievers. Apart from environment, all other predictors were significant predictors of perceived academic performance. Engagement was a predictor for the subjective measure of CGPA scores.
Significance – Subjective measures data should not be considered as knowledge gain, and it should be used cautiously as a surrogate for evidence of actual learning. Educational research studies should be designed using more objective measures of learning rather than subjective measures in isolation as dependent variable. This should be seen as a caveat by policymakers in decision-making to
practise consciousness in terms of judgemental modes employed in measurement and to exercise caution in collecting, analysing, and
interpreting subjective data
