Cooperatives are established through government and community collaboration to increase wealth creation and social well-being within the community. Cooperatives have succeeded in small businesses, empowering women, the poor, and the community by offering economic benefits for its members and making this community able to face various shortcomings including capital, leadership, and talent. In Malaysia, the activities of cooperatives are monitored by Suruhanjaya Koperasi Malaysia (SKM). However, based on SKM statistic, it revealed that the performance of Malaysian cooperatives decreased year by year starting from 2016 until 2022. Thus, this study is motivated to identify the challenges faced by cooperatives and the role of SKM in monitoring and empowering the sustainability of Malaysian cooperatives, specifically cooperatives established in Perlis. Interviews were conducted with SKM Negeri Perlis officers, and their feedback was recorded and transcribed. The findings of this study revealed that cooperatives, which are owned and managed by their members, encountered several challenges, including low or inactive participation, an aging membership base, and restrictions on expanding their member pool. To overcome these issues, SKM plays its role in advising and monitoring the activities of cooperatives. SKM may provide alternatives and strategies including funding or other incentives to help cooperatives boost their performance and retain their survival. After all strategies have been implemented and the cooperatives are still having difficulties, the last resort is to suggest liquidatio

The presence of a halal mark on a food product serves as an indicator that the food has been certified as halal and is deemed suitable for consumption according to Islamic dietary guidelines and safety standards. However, the increased demand for halal food in the market has led many business owners to exploit this trend by intentionally misleading consumers with false claims of halal certification. To address these issues, the Verify Halal app platform was developed. However, there is a lack of research on the factors contributing to its acceptance. As such, this study explores the factors contributing to the acceptance of Verify Halal app among the Malaysian Muslim consumers. To achieve this objective, survey questionnaires were distributed online and face-to-face to collect data from 250 Muslim respondents in the Klang Valley area of Malaysia. The data collected were analyzed using SPSS. The results indicate that religiosity, perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, and social influence contribute positively and significantly to the acceptance of the Verify Halal app. However, trust contributes negatively and insignificantly to its acceptance among Malaysian Muslim consumers. The findings of this study have serious implications for several entities, including halal business owners, halal consumers, halal app developers, and government40 entities. Specifically, halal business owners should ensure that information about their products listed on the app is accurate, current, and in compliance with halal standards. The findings call on halal consumers to frequently use the app to search for and purchase halal-certified products, which could contribute to the development of an effective community for other users. Halal app developers should prioritize user-centric design principles, which will not only increase initial engagement but also generate positive reviews and referrals, thereby contributing to the Verify Halal app’s market reputation. Finally, various forms of government incentives, such as grants and collaborations, can be provided to facilitate the advancement of the Verify Halal app

This paper addresses the critical problem of low back pain (LBP) among firefighters, particularly during hose rolling operations. The main objective is to lower the average probability of LBP risks by introducing a motorized hose roller for such activities. The development of this tool is guided by prior studies which included a survey. The design and fabrication processes of the motorized hose roller involved assessing existing patents for novelty, employing Solid Work software for design, using a morphological chart for concept selection, and finalizing fabrication through metal casting and wiring. Based on the experiment that had been conducted, the conventional hose rolling methods recorded an average LBP risk probabilities of 58.22%, while the motorized hose rolling tool method significantly reduced these risks to 17.44%, representing a 40.78% reduction of LBP risks. These findings highlight the effectiveness of motorized hose rolling tool and its potential as a safer alternative to existing methods, offering vital insights for improving occupational health and safety in hose rolling operation. This research further explores the design and fabrication of motorized tools, emphasizing their potential to alleviate the physical loads encountered by firefighter

Islamic Family Law on Polygamous Marriage in Malaysia: Between Roses and Thorns

    Get PDF
Marriage is a way of gaining a peaceful mind and soul, be it monogamous or polygamous marriage. This is the sweetness of marriage as enshrined by Islam. To achieve this wisdom, conditions laid down by the religion and legal requirements must be observed. Otherwise, a marriage may turn into a miserable and thorny life for couples, especially in polygamy. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to disseminate legal knowledge and refine the understanding about polygamous law in Malaysia. The central arguments of this study are two-pronged: (1) to deliberate on the Malaysian legal framework for polygamous marriage and (2) to discuss a crucial legal issue related to polygamy, namely cross-border marriage and its effects. The qualitative method of doctrinal legal research was employed to obtain and analyse primary and secondary data from various sources. It included examining the statutes and decided cases of the Syariah https://e-journal.uum.edu.my/index.php/jps JURNAL PEMBANGUNAN SOSIAL26 Jurnal Pembangunan Sosial, Vol. 27 (July) 2024, pp: 25-49 Courts, including reported and unreported cases. The relevant statutes studied were the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 and the Enactment of Islamic Family Law (Kedah Darul Aman) 2008. In substantiating arguments, data from e-Syariah Version 3 (ESV3) was used together with existing literature. The findings revealed that refusal or failure to comply with legal requirements pertaining to polygamous marriage may lead to cross-border marriage and its aftermath effects on the legality of the marriage, jurisdiction of the court, and the rights of wives and children in the context of law. Hence, the enforcement of existing laws on polygamy should be emphasised to control any abuse of power by a man to contract a polygamous marriage. More importantly, the laws and enforcement should be strengthened to protect the rights of the wives and children. Future research may focus on issues involving the rights of the wives and children of a polygamous marriage upon the death of the husband or father according to Islamic family law in Malaysia and its implementation

Tourism industry relies heavily on good marketing strategy, which becomes imperative for destination marketers to focus on when building long-term consumer engagement, loyalty, and relationships by adopting a sustainable marketing strategy and ultimately safeguard heritage sustainability. This study selects the Malaysian monarchy’s heritage as the research subject and positions strategy as a method to segment and profile international tourists to the said heritage. Respondents were surveyed in July and August 2022, at a museum in Malaysia. Using the Ward method, the clustering analysis identified three clusters, i.e., ‘the royal enthusiast’, ‘the apathetic tourists’, and ‘the inclined royalist’. The main benefits sought by respondents were ‘accessibility’, ‘quality of facilities’, and ‘an increase of knowledge’. Respondents viewed that there should be a focus on ‘representation of the monarchy’s heritage to the Malaysian people and identity’, highlighting that it is ‘a country with nine royal states’, and is therefore unique. Since positioning is about the intention to highlight strengths and distinctiveness in the marketplace, the Malaysian monarchy’s heritage should therefore be positioned in the minds of international tourists as ‘a rich heritage destination with nine royal states’, which is uniquely Malaysia. The clustering of tourists may enhance the consumption intention and achieve continuous sustainable strategic orientation in preserving the Malaysian monarchy’s heritag
