    Get PDF
Purpose – This study aims to develop a teaching model of the Malay language for non-native and foreign speakers in schools. Implementing this model can assist educators in teaching the Malay language to students who do not use it as their first language in everyday use. Methodology – This study used a qualitative approach to develop teaching models for non-native and foreign Malay speakers. Interviews were conducted with 27 teachers and 23 stakeholders who are experts in teaching the Malay language, especially in teaching non-native speakers. A prototype model was developed thematically as a result of interviews using ATLAS.ti 22. Further, the prototype model was used by ten teachers from primary, secondary, and international schools in their teaching. Findings – This study has succeeded in developing a model for teaching the Malay language to non-native speakers and foreigners that includes five elements: teaching strategies, individual differences, input, social, and motivation. This model strongly emphasises instruction involving interaction, communication, and bilateral relations as a medium for students’ language acquisition and meaningful input. Verbal interaction between teachers and students can stimulate and improve students’ language skills in learning Malay. Significance – This model can help teachers teach the Malay language to non-native speakers and foreigners with a greater focus on achieving learning objectives. This model is expected to expand the usage, cultivate interest, and facilitate teaching the Malay language in educational institutions

Five Decades of Achievement Motivation Research In ELT: A Systematic Literature Review

    Get PDF
Purpose – There is an absence of systematic review papers in the achievement motivation theories literature. In terms of current research trends, English learning motivation is gaining attention as a determiner of success in FLA. Hence, this review aims to trace the trends in the empirical studies on achievement motivation theories and tools, ranging from 1970 to 2022. Methodology – With a focus on theories, diversity of research participants, and practical ELT-related issues addressed by previous researchers, this paper applied the PRISMA Systematic Review Protocol to offer a comprehensive synthesis of 91 empirical studies on theories of achievement motivation. Findings – The majority of the published studies were from China and Iran. There was also a large number of studies conducted on tertiary-level learners. Structural equation modelling was found to be the most widely used analysis. In addition, technology-assisted learning is the current trend in achievement motivation research. Significance – This paper offers new insights into the existing achievement motivation literature and identifies the research gaps. This study recommends more studies on expectancy-value theory including in-depth qualitative studies involving culturally diverse populations and experimental research to develop more effective pedagogical approaches and expand the current understanding of achievement motivation

Impacts of Green Site Management Practices On Energy and Water Consumption Efficiency in The Malaysian Construction Industry

    Get PDF
This study aims to investigate the impacts of green site management on corporate environmental and economic performances by improving the efficiency of energy and water consumption at construction sites. The identified green site management has been proven to improve both environmental and economic performances. This study allows practitioners to study and advocate for appropriate green site management strategies. A qualitative method was carried out since this research focused on the construction players’ opinions on green site management practices. Five contractors were selected randomly from the construction sites in Malaysia based on the convenience sampling method. All selected respondents were qualified to give opinions as they held management posts. The results have shown green site management practices can reduce the consumption of resources and improve energy efficiency management and water consumption management, which are considered to have a positive impact on the construction project’s environmental and economic performance. The findings also revealed that green site management practices implementation must not affect their economic performance, such as increasing the construction cost with high initial and maintenance costs. As the construction industry consumes a vast amount of water and energy daily, these consumption reductions can help construction sites achieve energy efficiency and utilize natural resources, eventually improving corporate environmental and economic performance. Thus, green practices must be implemented to bring sustainable development to the construction industry

Financial Literacy and Saving Behaviour Among Tertiary Students

    Get PDF
In this study, the level of financial literacy of university students from Kumasi Technical University was analysed. The aim of the research was to examine the financial literacy and saving behaviour of tertiary students using Kumasi Technical University as a case study. An online survey tool was used to collect the data. A sample size of 377 was drawn from the population by the convenience sampling method with data from primary sources. The quantitative data was analysed through descriptive statistics. Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS version 20) was employed to analyse the data. It was found out that the financial literacy among the respondents was average, especially among students studying business and management courses. This could be due to the fact that most of their courses of study are finance-related as compared to other students in other programmes. It was also found that the majority of respondents across different age groups felt that seeking financial information and advice had an impact on their decisions. However, a significant percentage (13.5 percent) of respondents aged 18 to 24 said that even if they had sought financial information and advice, their decisions had not been impacted. This study will provide guidance to policymakers and other regulators on how to develop appropriate strategies to increase savings among young people

The Ability of a Brand Recall to Mediate Between Product Placement and Multi-Ethnic Moviegoer’s Consumer Purchase Intentions

    Get PDF
Product placement has been a crucial influence for multi-ethnic Malaysian moviegoers in terms of purchase intentions. This research was conceptualised based on the Tripartite Typology of Product Placement by Russel (1998) and the Planned Behaviour Theory (TPB) by Ajzen (1985). This investigation measured how brand recall mediated the relationship between plot integration, audio stimulus, visual stimulus and consumer purchasing intentions. The research focused primarily on multi-ethnic cinemagoers in Peninsula Malaysia. Past research has also proven that the ethnic background of an individual does have a positive impact on the purchase intentions of the individual. This research studied the purchase intentions of each ethnicity in Peninsular Malaysia to determine if there is a difference among the purchase intentions of respondents when it comes to brand recall mediating the relationship between product placement and the various modalities of product placement. Respondents were sampled from all states within Peninsula Malaysia except for the states of Kelantan and Perlis due to the unavailability of operating cinemas in these states. Respondents were invited to participate after they had watched a movie in the cinema. Preferences only for those who watched Hollywood movies. A total of 513 respondents participated in this research. A questionnaire based on the five-point Likert scale was created as the research instrument to collect data by adapting from past research. A reliability test was done to ascertain the reliability and validity of the instrument. Data obtained was analysed using the Smart Partial Least Squares (PLS) Software to determine the relationship between the hypotheses tested. The results generated have proven that brand recall is able to influence the relationship between plot integration, audio stimulation, visual stimulation and consumer purchase intentions of all the ethnicities in Peninsula Malaysia

The Implementation of The Alexander-Govern Test in Factorial Design Analysis

    Get PDF
This study proposed to evaluate the performance of the Alexander-Govern test (AG test), Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and t-test by analyzing the Type I error rate. The AG test is regarded as a reliable control Type I error rate. This technique is insensitive in the presence of heteroscedasticity under a normal distribution. Simulation research was carried out using Statistical Analysis Software (SAS) to assess the effectiveness of the tests that are based on the rate of Type I error. By creating the conditions that could highlight the strengths and weaknesses of each test, three variables are being manipulated: sample size, variance heterogeneity, and type of pairings. The performance of the AG tests is convincing when it is able to control the Type I error rates better compared to ANOVA under all conditions of heterogeneous variances. Meanwhile, the ANOVA performs best only when the variances are homogenous. A real data experiment was applied to validate the result. In the battery life design experiment, the p-value using the AG test and ANOVA are computed and compared. The AG test provides valid results when it can test the main effect and the interaction effect, as well as the ANOVA. With good performance in the simulation study, the AG test can be considered a good alternative to the ANOVA when the assumptions of the homogeneity of variances are violated in the case of factorial design

Reprocolla: Requirements Prioritisation Model with Collaboration Perspectives Based on Cost-Value Approach

    Get PDF
The process of ranking requirements in software development is made up of various criteria and numerous stakeholders, which are properly selected for the effective prioritisation of software requirements. These requirements have encountered several challenges, including lack of scalability, complexity of pairwise comparisons and biases due to the cognitive load on stakeholders. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate and find solutions to improve the software prioritisation process using the Reprocolla model. The model was built by weighing the criteria in terms of benefits, opportunities, costs, and risks (BOCR) classification, which were then calculated using the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) method. Furthermore, the selection of alternatives was computed using the fuzzy technique for order preference using the similarity to an ideal solution (FTOPSIS) method. The success of Reprocolla was evaluated using seven datasets based on real projects and compared with the two existing methods for prioritising requirements, FAHP and FTOPSIS. The experiment results used inferential and descriptive statistics approaches with three indicators: accuracy, time consumption, and ease of use. Based on the three indicators mentioned above, the inferential statistics showed no significant difference between the perspectives of clients and developers. Whereas, descriptive statistics found that Reprocolla is more accurate, consumes less time, and has the highest ease of use percentage. The result showed that as stakeholders’ satisfaction level increases, the software development process becomes more accurate, thereby leading to a decrease in time consumption and a rise in ease of usage. The result also showed that the development of the Reprocolla tool, a collaboration between humans and machines, enhanced the effectiveness of the requirements prioritisation proces
