The Training Implementation and Effectiveness Among Majlis Daerah Cameron Highlands Employees: From the Perspective of Human Capital Management
The purpose of this study was to explore the implementation and effectiveness of training provided by the Cameron Highlands District Council (MDCH) in meeting the needs and functions of the department’s employees. Through this study, the researcher revealed that the work performance problems faced by MDCH’s employees called for the need for more training for them. A qualitative interview approach was used, and primary data was collected from 15 informants positioned in various departments in the MDCH. Through this study, the researcher found how the training was set for each employee in the MDCH. The findings of this study showed that work performance problems and training effectiveness have a significant relationship. The work performance problems experienced by MDCH employees were caused by the lack of acceptance of specific forms of training in their own field of work. The results of this study will help the management of the MDCH in improving the problems or needs required by the employees at the MDCH. Indirectly, this study can also help in diversifying the form of specialized training according to the scope of tasks and work areas available at MDC
The Role of Emerging Technologies of Students' Academic Achievement at Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP)
Education is crucial for global progress, constantly evolving with emerging technologies that impact teaching and learning. This essay explores how new technologies influence academic success, specifically examining elevated failure rates at Politeknik Seberang Perai (PSP) in Malaysia. Factors like insufficient information, slow progress, and inadequate time management are linked to these failure rates. The study investigates the influence of new technologies on academic achievement at PSP using an ex post facto research strategy and quantitative methods to collect data from 200 respondents across various departments. The research identifies the types of technologies used by students and evaluates their impact on academic performance. Chi-Square analysis and Spearman correlation coefficient are utilized to test hypotheses. Findings reveal that modern technology, particularly cell phones, is widely accessible to students, with notable discrepancies in access across departments. A weak correlation exists between the frequency of technology use and academic achievement, with a statistically significant association only found in obtaining material online. The study contributes to the literature on the use of new technologies for academic purposes within PSP. Results emphasize the necessity of educating students on effective technology use to enhance academic outcomes. It highlights that simply having access to new technologies does not guarantee academic success; it depends on how students integrate these tools into their learning processes. Recommendations include teaching students efficient technology utilization and recognizing that academic improvement is not assured solely by using technology. The study underscores the importance of strategic technology integration in education to foster academic achievement
Systematic Literature Review: Lean Ergonomics Analysis in Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Manufacturing Sector
Ergonomics has emerged as a significant workplace issue, negatively impacting finances due to worker absence and reduced productivity. Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are particularly prone to occupational accidents, contributing to over 80% of such incidents. This review delves into the perspective of lean ergonomics within SMEs. The study followed a structured review protocol, formulating research questions and systematically searching the Scopus and WoS databases. The findings reveal several key points: (1) SMEs commonly implement ergonomics principles addressing awkward postures, repetitive movements, manual material handling, hand-wrist postures, excessive reach, grip strength, and prolonged standing; (2) Lean principles such as SMED, 5S, standardized work, TPM, VSM, and kanban positively impact ergonomics; (3) Various ergonomics assessment methods, including REBA, RULA, HFE, JSI, KIM, OCRA, and Shoaf’s model, are recommended for future research and practical application; (4) Ergonomics can underpin lean transformation efforts, with Lean Manufacturing (LM) contributing to reduced ergonomics risks. However, the review identified a limitation in the scope of databases used (WoS and Scopus), suggesting that expanding the range of databases and research keywords could improve future article searches. The study's primary focus serves as a reference point for future researchers and manufacturers interested in lean ergonomics, emphasizing the need for comprehensive approaches to enhance worker safety and productivity through ergonomic and lean practices
Attitudinal Factors of Fishermen Trapped in the B40 Category: an Empirical Study
The fishing industry plays an important role in global economic development. However, its importance is not in line with the well-being of key players in the fishing industry itself, especially Zone A fishermen who are mostly in the Bottom 40% (B40) of household income category. Although the government has emphasised this issue by providing various programmes and funds that are suitable for fishing activities by Zone A fishermen, there are still some Zone A fishermen who are at the poverty level. Thus, the objective of this article investigated the causes of low well-being among B40 fishermen from the aspect of the individual. The result of the study combined two data sources, namely primary data and secondary data. A qualitative approach was conducted by interviewing 23 informants consisting of Zone A fishermen and directors involved in fishing activities. This study was conducted in three states, namely Perlis, Terengganu, and Melaka. The results of the interviews were transcribed in the form of verbatim data, that is, word extracts from informants. Verbatim data were analysed using thematic analysis involving the process of coding, categorization, and finally theme production to answer the research questions. The findings of the study found that individual factors do affect the well-being of B40 fishermen. Individual factors can be classified into two, namely internal and external factors. Individual factors are internally divided into attitudes, interests, knowledge of fishermen, experience, skills, selfmotivation, and also creativity. Meanwhile, external factors are divided into alternative income, family support, and also hereditary fishermen. Hopefully, the important findings in this study can assist to improve the economic standing of the fishing community. At the same time, support and encouragement from families, communities, and the government is important to change the attitude of fishermen to get a better life and get out of poverty in the B40 community. Furthermore, to get an overview of the wellbeing of fishermen in Malaysia, it is proposed that future studies can increase the number of states and informants, and use a mix method approach or quantitative methods to further provide more finding for the betterment of the fishing communities
