Understanding the Challenges of Teaching Computer Science Subjects from School Teachers’ Perspective
The implementation of Computer Science (CS) in Malaysian secondary schools aims to develop digital proficiency among youths. Despite this, Kedah state has seen fluctuating enrolment in CS elective subjects for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exam between 2018 and 2021, which contrasts with the increasing popularity of CS programs in higher education and the rising demand for CS skills. Addressing the challenges teachers face in delivering CS subjects is crucial, including issues like inadequate training, limited resources, language barriers, and diverse student backgrounds. This study uses a quantitative approach with self-developed questionnaires distributed among experienced CS teachers in Kedah to identify these challenges and propose solutions. Findings reveal a mix of experienced and less experienced teachers, mostly with medium-level proficiency. The study highlights difficulties in teaching Form 4 and Form 5 content and suggests improvements through professional development, collaboration, hands-on experiences, and updated resources to enhance teaching effectiveness and better align secondary education with higher education and job market needs
Prescriptive Maintenance Synchronized to the Characteristics of Industry 5.0: a Theoretical Discussion
This article aims to examine and understand the current scope of Prescriptive Maintenance integrated with the human-centric characteristics of Industry 5.0. Therefore, the main research question is the following: “In the view of the managers of the companies visited, located in the Southeast Region of Brazil, what are the main technical and administrative difficulties that companies encounter in successfully implementing proactive combinations on the factory floor, such as Prescriptive Maintenance integrated with the characteristics of Industry 5.0”?. The evolution of industrial processes in recent decades and the advent of Industry 4.0 integrated with human-centered characteristics have placed maintenance as one of the protagonists of industrial processes. In a scenario where automation and humans are gaining more and more space, the future of industries lies in Prescriptive Maintenance. To achieve the objective of the article, professional experiences from participation in congresses, seminars and technical visits to several factories located in the Southeast Region of Brazil are used. In data collection, we explored documentary observation and bibliographic research in the Science Direct and Web of Science databases. The study focuses on research areas related to maintenance integration, Industry 4.0 (Techno centric) and human-centric characteristics (Industry 5.0). The article brought important conclusions, as it addresses the impact and trends on the factory floor so that managers can develop competitiveness and productivity. The article highlights the role of maintenance methods in improving factory floor performance, emphasizing human knowledge and Prescriptive Maintenance practices to ensure operations within World Class standards
Formulating Design Guidelines for an Immersive Virtual Reality Environment in Muslim Funeral Management Education in Malaysia
In Malaysia, Islamic funeral rites hold deep cultural and religious significance. Upon a person's passing, specific rituals rooted in Islamic traditions are observed. However, despite the importance of these practices, many students especially teenagers in Malaysia lack of knowledge and understanding about Islamic funeral management and practices. A preliminary study conducted among 27 teenagers aged 21 to 25 from Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) revealed significant gaps in understanding key aspects such as Taharah (ritual washing), Solat Jenazah (funeral prayer), and Kafan (shrouding). This lack of knowledge could have implications for the preservation and practice of Islamic traditions within younger generations. With the rapid integration of digital technologies, there is need to find alternative way, and this refer to the utilization of Immersive Virtual Reality (IVR) Technology in addressing this problem. To bridge this gap, the study proposes formulating design guidelines for an IVR environment focused on Islamic funeral management education in Malaysia. This research aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) by promoting quality education through digital innovation. The objectives include identifying core components for the IVR environment, developing comprehensive design guidelines, and validating these guidelines through expert review. The study employs the Design Science Research Methodology (DSRM), encompassing stages such as awareness, suggestion, development, evaluation, and conclusion. The significance lies in exploring innovative, interactive approaches for teaching Islamic funeral practices, offering an immersive learning experience that enhances student engagement, comprehension, and retention. Effectiveness of Executive Order No. 70 or The National Task Force to end Local Communist Armed Conflict: Experiences on the Poverty Reduction, Livelihood, and Employment Cluster of the selected communities in Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines
This study examines the experiences of the selected communities in the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF ELCAC) Poverty Reduction, Livelihoods, and Employment Cluster of Executive Order No. 70. It utilized qualitative research through the phenomenology approach as it studied the experiences of the selected communities in Kibawe, Bukidnon. It employed thematic analysis in this investigation to assess the study’s focus group discussion. The study concludes that the whole-of-the-nation approach of the government was an effective tool for the government to uplift the living conditions of the selected communities by reducing poverty through livelihood and employment programs, penetrating the most insurgency-vulnerable areas in the municipality, and increasing the representation of the selected communities in the local government units through their representatives. These programs and projects under NTF-ELCAC PRLEC have had a political, social, and economic impact on the lives of the selected communities by reducing poverty, providing work opportunities for the communities, and helping them to become self-reliant without revolting against the government
Logistics Activities and Logistics Performance of Thai Exporters Exporting Cut Orchid Flowers to Vietnam
The objectives of the study are to examine the logistics activities of Thai cut flower orchid exporters to Vietnam and evaluate their logistics performance across nine logistical operations in three dimensions: cost, time, and reliability. Identifying issues in improving the logistics efficiency of exporters is the key to gaining a competitive edge in exporting. Thai orchid exporters to Vietnam were interviewed in Bangkok, Nakhon Pathom, and Samut Sakhon provinces, Thailand’s main orchid production regions, using semi-structured interviews with open-ended questions. Quantitative and logistics management data were collected using the Agricultural Logistics Performance Index (ALPI), which evaluated nine logistics activities in three dimensions. Qualitative data were obtained from conceptual framework inquiries Inductive analysis was used to study qualitative data, whereas percentages and averages were used to analyse quantitative data. According to the report, exporters performed six logistics tasks but ignored demand forecasting. Furthermore, site selection, warehousing and storage, and reverse logistics were absent. Exporter logistics performance averaged 94.98, with purchasing and procurement performing best at 98.05. Transportation, with an average performance of 90.84, needed the most optimisation. Exploring Personal Resources and its Relationship with Work Engagement: A Systematic Review
This systematic review of 55 empirical studies explores the relationship between personal resources and work engagement in various work environments. Its contribution is threefold: first, to identify the constructs that illustrate the ability of personal resources; second, to analyse current methods for studying personal resources and highlighting their limitations in theoretical generalisation; and third, to examine the role of personal resources to influence work engagement. The review identifies notable gaps in existing research and offers valuable perspectives to promote employee engagement in different professional settings. Findings highlight the need for cultural and sector-specific research to understand diverse responses to job demands and resources. It suggests the integration of emerging constructs like growth mindset and emotional intelligence into these models and emphasises the need for a more varied methodological approach, including longitudinal and qualitative studies. Additionally, it highlights the need to explore the impact of social, cultural, and technological factors in this relationship. An implication from this study is that organisations can improve job satisfaction, reduce turnover intentions, and enhance overall performance by creating a supportive environment that encourages personal resources. Gen Z’s Loyalty Unpacked: The Interplay of Brand Image, Service Quality, and Price on Satisfaction and Trust
The Malaysian telecommunications market is exceptionally competitive, compelling companies to innovate, collaborate, and adapt their strategies so as to retain a competitive advantage and enhance customer loyalty. This study investigates the intricate relationships among brand image, service quality, perceived price, customer satisfaction, customer trust, and customer loyalty, with a focus on Gen Z within the Malaysian telecommunications sector. Using a self-administered questionnaire survey, 187 responses were gathered from individuals within the Gen Z cohort. The numerical data was subsequently analysed using the statistical technique of Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The empirical results highlight the significant influence of brand image, service quality, and perceived price on customer satisfaction and trust. Moreover, customer satisfaction acts as a vital mediator among these variables, effectively heightening customer loyalty. Interestingly, the impact of customer trust on loyalty, as well as its role as a mediator between brand image, perceived price, service quality, and loyalty, is not significant. This finding suggests that, within the telecommunications context, trust may not serve as a primary driver of loyalty. The study makes significant theoretical contributions to consumer behaviour models by clarifying the complex relationships among the key constructs and highlighting the importance of mediation analysis in understanding customer dynamics. Masalah Teknologi dan Isu Sosial Berkaitan Penggunaan Chatgpt dalam Bahasa Melayu
Kajian ini menganalisis masalah yang dihadapi oleh ChatGPT apabila seseorang menggunakannya dalam bahasa yang serupa, dengan menjadikan bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Indonesia sebagai contoh, yakni: ChatGPT sering menjana respons kepada prom bahasa Melayu (bahasa yang memiliki bilangan penutur yang sedikit) dalam bahasa Indonesia (bahasa yang mempunyai jumlah penutur yang lebih ramai). Pemerhatian terhadap keupayaan identifikasi bahasa (LangID) ChatGPT dibuat untuk mengenal pasti punca timbulnya masalah pemilihan bahasa tersebut, sama ada diakibatkan oleh ralat LangID ataupun sebab selainnya. Hasil pemerhatian mendapati ralat LangID tidak dapat menjelaskan keparahan masalah tersebut. Berdasarkan perbandingan pola respons kepada prom bahasa Melayu dan prom bahasa Jawa, kajian ini menyimpulkan bahawa sebab utama berlaku masalah tersebut adalah kerana ChatGPT tidak menganggap bahasa Melayu dan bahasa Indonesia secara sama rata sebagai bahasa yang berlainan. ChatGPT sebaliknya menganggap bahasa Melayu adalah ragam tidak standard kepada bahasa Indonesia. Influence of Information Technology on Internal Control Systems in Tertiary Institutions in Osun State, Nigeria
The study examined how information technology affects internal control systems in tertiary institutions in Osun State. Specific goals were to ascertain whether or not information technology has a significant impact on the internal control systems and internal audit processes of tertiary institutions. A survey research design was chosen. A sample size of 100 respondents participated in the study. This study used the stratified sampling method and a regression technique was used for data analysis. The findings showed that internal control systems and internal audit procedures in tertiary institutions in Osun State were highly influenced by information technology with t= 20.02 P< 0.0 and t= 19.049p strengthened and improved by information technology. The study has recommended that tertiary institutions adopt information technology in order to improve their internal control frameworks. To keep their staff’s necessary skills and knowledge current, the management of tertiary institutions should encourage both on-the-job and off the-job training in information technology. Effects of STEMEN Teaching Models on Mathematical Literacy and Mathematical Problem-Solving
Purpose - Mathematical literacy and mathematical problem solving are crucial abilities that link mathematics content to real life applications, facilitating both mathematics understanding and mathematical processes. The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the STEMEN (STEM and educational neuroscience) teaching model in enhancing mathematical literacy and problem solving skills. Methodology - This study adopted a pre-test and post-test control group design. Among 156 Grade 9 students from a secondary school in Phayao, Thailand, 70 were randomly selected. The STEMEN teaching model was implemented in the experimental group, while the 5E teaching model, typically used in a normal classroom was employed in the control group. Two types of tests, namely the mathematical literacy test and the mathematical problem-solving test, were used as research instruments. Pre and post-data were collected from both the experimental and control groups. Repeated measures ANOVA with Wilks’ lambda was employed to analyze the mean comparison for mathematical literacy and mathematical problem-solving. Findings - The findings revealed that the mean scores for mathematical literacy and mathematical problem-solving were relatively higher in the STEMEN teaching model group compared to the 5E teaching model group. These results provide insights into the effectiveness of the STEMEN teaching model in enhancing learning outcomes, particularly mathematical literacy and problem-solving in mathematics. Significance – The results of this study showed that the STEMEN teaching model was effective in increasing learning outcomes, including mathematical literacy and problem-solving. These outcomes should enable teachers to design effective and efficient instructional strategies for enhancing mathematical literacy and problem-solving in classroom
