Learning from timber folded grid structure for Mosque in Indonesia

    No full text
Timber has been used in traditional Indonesia short-span roof structure. This short span timber structure still depended on the maximum length and thickness of the timber. Despite the introduction of the trusses system, timber constructions are still limited to short span roofs. Steel and concrete are still more popular to be used as long span roof structure material. This phenomenon was also shown in mosque roof structure development. The timber roof structure was replaced by steel and concrete long-span roof, especially in form of dome structure. This paper presents the complexity of design to construction process of Nurul Hasanah Aceh Mosque in Palu City which pioneers the long-span single-layer folded grid timber roof structure in Indonesia. This article discusses design exploration of the mosque which showed the inseparable structural, construction, and architectural aspect in design process. The construction could serve as milestone for the development of long-span timber roof construction in Indonesia. This article also recommends several technical and computational improvement to further develop complex long-span timber structures in Indonesia

    No full text
This research aims to analyze the effects of Indonesian inflation, the rise of the US Fed rate, and the exchange rate on the yield of Indonesian government bonds. This study employs a quantitative approach using secondary data obtained from reliable sources, such as the Bloomberg database, the official website of Bank Indonesia, and the official website of the Federal Reserve. The sample comprises 132 months of macroeconomic rates and prices, covering 10 years from 2012 to 2022. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, and stationarity testing. While previous studies have analysed the effects of these factors on government bond prices, this study investigates explicitly their impact on government bond yield in Indonesia. The results show that inflation and the exchange rate positively affect the Indonesian government bond yield. However, the rise in the US Federal Reserve rate does not significantly drive changes in the Indonesian government bond yield

Humans have various characteristics, from height, race, habits, and others, therefore the needs of humans, in general, are also different. With this difference, the interior design used to support the needs must be used by all humans. This need is called universal design. On the other hand, the world is being hit by the COVID-19 virus which is changing peoples habits. In fact, the implementation of universal design in interiors is less than optimal, coupled with a significant change from the new normal problem that makes many changes to the architecture, especially interior design in public spaces. With this description, this design focuses on the needs and problems of universal and new normal design with the design results in the form of applying concept applications in interior design such as circulation, overall design, and furniture design that adapts to concept needs. The design uses the design thinking method with 9 stages (understand, observe, point of view, ideate, prototype, test, storytelling, pilot and business model) with the final design result in the form of a set of working drawings and 3D interior drawings

Effects of Short-Term (20-Day) Alternate-Day Modified Fasting and Time-Restricted Feeding on Fasting Glucose and IGF-1 in Obese Young Women

    No full text
Background: Obesity is a metabolic condition that may impair insulin sensitivity and disrupt glucose homeostasis. Since insulin and glucose affect insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), disruptions in this axis may elevate the risk of chronic diseases. Intermittent fasting (IF) modulates metabolic parameters, but the impacts on glucose regulation and IGF-1 remain underexplored. This study aimed to assess the short-term effects of two IF types, time-restricted feeding (TRF) and alternate-day modified fasting (ADMF), on fasting blood glucose (FBG) and IGF-1 in obese young women. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control group design was conducted over 20 days. The 31 subjects were allocated into ADMF (n = 10), TRF (n = 11), and Control (n = 10). After excluding dropouts and outliers, the final sample consisted of 22 subjects (ADMF = 7, TRF = 8, Control = 7). FBG and IGF-1 serum were measured pre- and post-intervention. Results: The FBG post-intervention significantly increased in TRF (p = 0.001) and ADMF (p = 0.036) groups, but not in Controls. Only the TRF group showed a significant reduction in IGF-1 levels (p < 0.001). Nevertheless, the ADMF group exhibited substantial decreases in body weight (p = 0.047) and visceral fat (p = 0.017). Conclusions: A 20-day IF in obese young women induced distinct metabolic effects: TRF lowered IGF-1, ADMF reduced adiposity, and both regimens increased FBG. These findings suggest that early changes in glucose regulation are highly dependent on the specific dietary regimen used. Specifically, TRF predominantly influences endocrine regulation (IGF-1 axis), while ADMF favours adiposity reduction. The concurrent rise in FBG may reflect a transient shift in glucose homeostasis during the early stages of fasting

Reiterating the Spirit of Place: A Framework for Heritage Site in VR

This study proposes and tests a virtual reality (VR) framework aimed at reiterating the Spirit of Place (SiP) of heritage sites, conceived as a perceiver’s perception of place formed through the dynamic interplay of tangible and intangible influences within a given location. The framework applies Gilles Deleuze’s concepts of ‘difference in itself’ and ‘repetition for itself’ to create interpretive VR experiences that evoke SiP by integrating natural features, built structures, cultural memories, historical narratives, cultural narratives, and symbolic associations. Through a controlled experiment involving both video and VR interactions with heritage sites, participants reported elevated emotional connections and a deeper engagement with SiP in the VR environment. This confirms that VR can serve as an effective medium for heritage preservation, capturing the site’s distinct identity and fostering embodied engagement shaped by users’ memories and cultural familiarity. These findings validate the framework’s potential to convey the unique identity of heritage sites, offering a transformative tool for virtual heritage applications

Comparative Performance of Precast Column-To-Foundation Connections: A Review

Since the introduction of precast concrete as a structural element in the early 20th century, precast concrete has evolved significantly into an essential construction technology in various modern construction projects. This is due to several advantages of precast concrete, such as time efficiency, relatively lower costs, good quality control, and environmental friendliness. However, precast con- crete also has disadvantages when applied as part of a seismic-resistant building framework, primarily in the connection between elements, which does not per- form as well as monolithic joints in terms of structural performance. The precast column-to-foundation connection is one of the most critical connections, as it experiences the largest axial-moment combination forces in a structure. Com- monly used types of precast connections include pocket connections, baseplates, anchor connections, and grouting sleeves. The results of previous research reviews suggest that pocket connections demonstrate reliable structural performance, pro- vided the column’s embedment length into the foundation exceeds 1.0 Diameter. Meanwhile, the structural performance of baseplate and anchor connections is significantly influenced by the thickness of the baseplate, the number of anchors, and their configuration. For grouting sleeve connections, the key factors are the diameter and spacing of the sleeves, as well as the length of the reinforcement bars. On average, test results for precast column-to-foundation connections indicate that all the connections above can achieve the strength of monolithic joints. However, structural performance characteristics such as ductility, energy dissipation, and stiffness degradation require further modifications to match the performance of cast-in-place monolithic joints
