    No full text
The project focused on the synthesis of iridium-based luminescent metallopolymers, which were obtained by introducing Ir(III) cyclometalated cationic complexes with general formula [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+, as side units in acrylic polymeric matrices. The synthetic process involved the radical copolymerization of Ir(III) complexes with methyl methacrylate, MMA. The complexes prepared for this purpose were represented by cationic compounds [Ir(ppy)2Lx]+ and [Ir(4CN-1npy)2Lx]+, and were synthesized from bifunctional N^N ligands capable of acting at the same time as ligands towards the metal centre and as monomers for the copolymerization. The studied complexes show significant luminescent performance and a display tuneable emission colour over the visible spectral range, through chemical modification of the ligands set. It was confirmed that the phosphorescent properties of discrete complexes were transferred to metallopolymers, resulting in hybrid polymeric materials that are transparent and capable of emitting different colours depending on the type of the introduced complex. For each metallapolymer, four materials were prepared characterized by different amounts of Ir(III) (ppmIr = 5, 10, 20 and 40 respectively) in order to compare the different emission intensities. Beyond showing considerable interest from a fundamental research perspective, the most immediate application area of these new luminescent hybrid materials concerns evaluating their use in Luminescent Solar Concentrator (LSC) technology

Retail Inventory Management in the Digital Era: A Web-Based Solution for In-Store Retail Operations

    Get PDF
This thesis presents the design, implementation, and evaluation of Stock Uniters, a web-based stock management system developed for Poltronesofà. The project was motivated by the limitations of the previous Excel-based workflow, which relied on manual updates, suffered from delays in communication, and lacked accountability and traceability. The developed solution replaces fragmented spreadsheets with a centralized, full-stack application. The system features a Vue.js Single Page Application frontend and a FastAPI backend integrated with the company’s Oracle infrastructure. Core functionalities include real-time stock registration, document scanning and uploads, role-based dashboards, and secure authentication through JWT. By embedding business rules directly into application logic, the system not only supports daily operations but also enforces organizational consistency. A pilot deployment in five stores demonstrated significant improvements in efficiency and data reliability. Key performance indicators (KPIs), such as stock registration delay, document completeness, and inventory accuracy, showed measurable progress compared to the Excel-based process. Moreover, the system contributed to improved managerial visibility and enhanced accountability at the store level. Beyond technical contributions, this work highlights the broader role of digital tools in enabling organizational change. The project illustrates how the introduction of Stock Uniters served as a concrete step in Poltronesofà’s digital transformation, demonstrating that even focused solutions can yield meaningful benefits in efficiency, traceability, and cultural alignment towards data-driven decision-making

Emerging healthcare markets: study of Medtech in China and pharmaceuticals in India

    No full text
Institutional and regulatory contexts play a decisive role in shaping business strategies in emerging healthcare markets, with China’s MedTech industry and India’s pharmaceutical sector as two emblematic examples. The analysis combines the PESTEL framework with case studies of Siemens Healthineers and AstraZeneca. Findings show that the Chinese MedTech sector is marked by strong state influence, making localization and institutional partnerships crucial for market access. By contrast, the Indian pharmaceutical market follows a hybrid model: generics are supported through strict patent rules and price controls, while innovative drugs benefit from collaborations between government, academia, and industry. The case studies highlight how Siemens builds its strategy around government relations within China’s state-driven environment, whereas AstraZeneca focuses on community engagement and flexible distribution in India. From a managerial perspective, the evidence suggests that multinational healthcare companies must look beyond technological capabilities and competitive dynamics, anchoring their strategies within wider institutional and social ecosystems. The interaction between regulation, innovation, and social responsibility emerges as a key factor for ensuring both the sustainability and the legitimacy of corporate strategies in these markets

Ambient noise tomography of the Etna magma system during the 2020-2021 period

    No full text
We applied ambient noise tomography (ANT) to image Rayleigh-wave phase-velocity variations beneath Mount Etna during the 2020–2021 period, aiming to constrain the deep magma system. Continuous seismic data recorded by the INGV network were processed using the SeisLib Python framework, which automates empirical Green’s function retrieval through cross-correlation and implements a stabilized least-squares inversion for tomographic imaging. The cross-spectrum of two-year-long ambient noise records yielded Rayleigh-wave dispersion curves between 0.10–0.40 Hz. Phase-velocity maps derived at discrete frequencies (corresponding to 2.5–10 s periods) reveal systematic lateral heterogeneities within the studied area. Across the investigated depth range (2–25 km), results reveal a radially symmetric low-velocity anomaly centered near 37°40′ N–14°35′ E. Thanks to the constraints provided by active seismicity, this anomaly is interpreted as a ductile or partially molten region that expands northeastward beneath Mt. Etna from 8–10 km depth. The area remains largely aseismic down to 18 km, below which clustered seismicity likely reflects dike-fed magma ascent. Shallow anomalies (2–3 km) suggest the presence of hydrothermal fluids within the Catania Plain and a rigid intrusive body beneath the volcanic edifice, while intermediate depths (6–10 km) reveal a fractured domain beneath the Nebrodi Mountains consistent with ongoing crustal compression. The southeastern sector remains mechanically rigid and thermally cold throughout, reflecting the structural influence of the extinct volcanic systems

Characterization of compound coastal flooding in the Keta basin

    No full text
Low-lying coastal areas such as the Ghanaian coasts are increasingly exposed to multiple, interacting climate hazards that threaten ecosystems, livelihoods, and infrastructures. Compound flooding, where the combination or successive occurrence of two or more flood drivers leads to a greater impact, can exacerbate the adverse consequences of flooding, particularly in coastal–estuarine regions. This thesis delineates a reproducible framework for compound flooding characterisation in data-scarce environments, bridging the climate-informed data analysis to the planning and evaluation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for coastal risk reduction. To address this overarching goal, the research assesses and validates multi-source climate datasets, notably the GloFAS hydrological reanalysis and the JRC offshore water level dataset, and then characterises the statistical behaviour of extreme river discharge and water level through univariate and bivariate Extreme Value Analyses (EVA), combining percentile-based thresholding, Peaks-Over-Threshold fitting, and copula-based modelling to identify and quantify compound coastal–fluvial flood events. The results demonstrate that river discharge and coastal water level extremes in the Volta Delta region, where Keta basin is, exhibit strong but asynchronous seasonality, limited long-term trends, and weak tail dependence, indicating that compound events are infrequent and primarily driven by temporal coincidence rather than strong physical coupling. Lastly, a third phase of the framework is conceptually outlined as future work, proposing the generation of synthetic extreme events through the UNprecedented Simulated Extremes using ENsembles (UNSEEN) approach to enrich the historical characterisation of compound flooding, by expanding the observational records with physically plausible, yet historically unobserved, extreme events. This would enable the subsequent evaluation of NbS performance under plausible, non-observed scenarios

Politopi e visualizzazione geometrica: dai solidi platonici ai policori regolari

    Get PDF

On the Numerical Solution of Large-scale Differential Riccati Equations

    Get PDF
This thesis investigates efficient numerical methods for solving large-scale Differential Riccati Equations (DREs), which commonly arise in optimal control and filtering problems. The DRE is discretized in time using Backward Differentiation Formula (BDF) schemes, leading to a sequence of Algebraic Riccati Equations (AREs) solved via iterative techniques such as the Newton–Kleinman method, Newton’s method with exact line search, and low-rank ADI-based algorithms. A modified ADI scheme is then proposed, allowing for nonzero initial iterates and enabling the reuse of previous solutions to accelerate convergence. The performance of the low-rank methods is validated on the rail profile cooling problem, modeled within the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) framework. Numerical experiments confirm the expected convergence order O(h^p) and demonstrate that the proposed low-rank approaches substantially improve computational efficiency and scalability for high-dimensional problems

    No full text

    No full text
