Investigating a Multicultural Camping Excursion’s Effect on University Students’ Willingness to Communicate
Willingness to communicate (WTC) was originally developed in reference to L1 communication (McCroskey & Baer, 1985). Over the last few decades research on WTC has focused on communication in the L2, especially in the classroom setting. Numerous studies have been conducted investigating ways to increase L2 learner’s WTC in the classroom, while little recent research exists on increasing WTC in the L1, either in or out of the classroom. This quasi-experimental study was a preliminary investigation into whether a multicultural camping excursion would lead to an increase in university students’ WTC in either Japanese or English. Using a control group comprised of excursion participants’ classmates in English language courses, pre- and post-test surveys were administered and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results showed a larger increase in mean Japanese WTC for excursion participants than for non-participants, but similar increases in mean English WTC for both groups. Positive and negative changes were reported by individuals in both groups for both Japanese and English WTC. The authors conclude that while data suggests mean increases in WTC for excursion participants, limitations of the study due to sample size and scale measurement reduce the generalizability of the findings. Further research including qualitative data is recommended to investigate individual participants’ experiences
A Comparison of the Kyotsu Listening Test and the Listening Portion of the Sojo International Learning Center Year 1 Placement Test
All students at Sojo University are required to take an English placement test so they can be grouped for compulsory English communication classes according to their proficiency in English. As most students will have taken the Common Test for University Admission prior to entering university, a comparison of these tests was performed in order to highlight the differences and similarities between the two formats. A discussion of the similarities and differences between the two exams was then also carried out with regards to recommendations for the future development of the placement test
Paul Klee / The Development and Discussion of Drawings
I would like to discuss mainly on"line drawing"includes drawing and"monochrome"which was named and categorized by the Swiss painter Paul Klee himself, who was primarily active in Germany in the early 20th century, from the wide variety of his paintings. It is not only to clarify the meaning of the "line"for Klee by treating the"line drawing"which was drawn consistently in the midst of the changing style of his painting from his childhood deep into adulthood, but it is the goal to discuss how the real three-dimensional image will lead the"line"and transform it into the two-dimensional image in vidual expression.11000955850
Water Quality Investigation of Kiyama and Kase Rivers in Kumamoto
An Example of Contribution by Pharmacists to Local People as Health Care Advisors

Expected Results and Discussion) After pharmacists teach customers/patients dangerous aspects of bad habits, they might amend their lifestyles, while the amending degree can vary from person to person
Manufacturing Autonomy:An L2 Reflective Writing Project
Initially, this project began as a way to integrate L2 reflective writing in communicative Japanese university English-language classes. Students were given reflection tasks on various aspects of their language learning, and were asked to keep these reflections in hand-written journals. This ongoing study involved both low-level and higher-level ELLs, both of which have offered up unique challenges in planning and implementation. The ultimate goal of this project is to encourage learner autonomy and awareness beyond the classroom
Learner Autonomy among University EFL Learners in Japan -Defining the Concept and Addressing Cultural Challenges-
Interest in learner autonomy in East Asia is growing as educational institutions become more aware of its potential for supporting learning and seek effective autonomy-promoting strategies. However, autonomy is far from a self-explanatory and uncontested term and there are multiple interpretations and definitions. In addition, autonomy is a Western construct and as such it can become stereotypically and ideologically loaded in English language teaching. In a Confucian heritage culture such as Japan, where dependence on teachers for input has traditionally been emphasised over learner independence, there is a resulting need to conceive and frame definitions in the local context and to find culturally appropriate ways in which to promote it. This article discusses these issues. It problematises autonomy in East Asia and specifically in Japan and attempts to define it in a Japanese university EFL context. It then looks at ways to address cultural challenges and discusses some ideas for how to promote it in that context
Career Education in“Vocational Guidance”-Towards the Social and Occupational Independence of Youth-
Aspects of Sri Lanka's Footprints of the Buddha
In order to reveal the form of footprints of the Buddha in Sri Lanka, I took rubbings of footprints of the Buddha found locally. Sri Lanka has more footprints remaining than any other country, and diverse types ranging from those adorned with patterns of auspicious symbols to those without patterns are distributed widely throughout the country. Early footprints of the Buddha carved as a symbol of Buddha are decorated with the thousand-spoken wheel that is one of the 32 signs of Buddha, and this was a seal representing Buddha. However, there are also footprints of the Buddha with no patterns and no toes in Sri Lanka. In this paper, I examined footprints of the Buddha without patterns or toes while referring to the Buddhist scriptures to follow changes in Buddhist views and Buddhism. I also examined the significance attached to the patterns of auspicious symbols in Sri Lanka, and how they have been treated
