Harmony Amid Chaos
We provide a brief but intuitive study on the subjects from which Galois Fields have emerged and split our study up into two categories: harmony and chaos. Specifically, we study finite fields with elements where is prime. Such a finite field can be defined through a logarithm table. The Harmony Section is where we provide three proofs about the overall symmetry and structure of the Galois Field as well as several observations about the order within a given table. In the Chaos Section we make two attempts to analyze the tables, the first by methods used by Vladimir Arnold as well as (what we believe is) an improvement of his method, the second by statistical analysis of the Galois Fields at , the highest prime value we were able to generate Galois Fields of size for
Effective video storytelling using mobile devices: Training leaders in a cross-cultural context

The use of video via mobile technology is becoming an effective way tell stories and market. The authors developed and presented a workshop session at an international conference with attendees from all over the world. Led by Dr. Heather McLaughlin (Professor of Communication), the workshop sought to train leaders in concepts for telling good stories and provide technological tools for production.
The students, all Multimedia Communication majors, were also commissioned to gather footage and interviews during the event. This opportunity allowed the students to use their videography/editing, interviewing and production skills in a real-world, cross-cultural situation.
In this presentation, the authors discuss the process of creating the workshop content, address cross-cultural challenges, reflect on lessons learned and suggest future considerations
Multigenerational Perceptions Of The Law Enforcement Work Environment
Leaders struggle to address shifting characteristics between generational cohorts in a multigenerational workforce. Research has shown that law enforcement culture supports an antiquated approach to leadership and that popular generational stereotypes are not consistent with behaviors in the workplace. This research was designed to help the law enforcement community understand generational values, beliefs, and work ethics, and to recommend ways to reduce generational stereotypes, address employee shortages, and improve the overall connection to their communities. The Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire II was used in an online survey to anonymously collect data from 441 law enforcement participants within the Baby Boomer, Generation X, and Millennial cohorts. A quantitative analysis was conducted using Welch’s ANOVA and Tukey’s HSD post hoc analysis. Findings for Emotional Demands F(2, 438) = 7.627, p = .001, h2 = .034, Influence F(2, 438) = 9.985, p \u3c .001, h2 = .044, and Predictability F(2, 438) = 3.035, p = .049, h2 = .013 were statistically significant. Millennials seemingly interpret the law enforcement work environment differently from the other two cohorts, but it appears Baby Boomer and Generation X leadership require more understanding of generational characteristics and its applicability to Millennials in the workplace. As agencies struggle to recruit, hire, and retain employees, future research could emphasize the need for leaders to account for generational differences when modifying policy, procedures, and practices. Computational Chemistry - ULK 101
Autophagy is a process that generates the necessary building components for cells by cytoplasmic breakdown of unnecessary materials (Martin, Celano, Solitro, Gunaydin, Scott, et. al., 2018). This is a survival technique for cells in times of stress, especially during periods of nutrient starvation. Cancer cells, unfortunately, benefit from this process due to their ability to flourish in nutrient-starved environments, becoming resistant to therapy. The primary protein in mammals responsible for this process is a serine/threonine kinase called ULK 1 (unc-51 like autophagy initiating kinase 1). As such, inhibitors of ULK 1 can be used in cancer therapies in order to treat cancer cells, making them more susceptible to nutrient-starvation. According to Martin, Celano, Solitro, Gunaydin, and Scott, et. al. (2018), while there is already a published ULK 1 inhibitor available and being used (SBI-0206965), there have been two other molecules discovered that show great promise; ULK 100 and ULK 101. These molecules show greater potency and selectivity than SBI-0206965.
ULK 101 will be the focus of this research project, using computational chemistry in order to determine how the molecule reacts with the ULK 1 protein. Four Student Perspectives On Nathaniel Hawthorne\u27s The House Of The Seven Gables
In The House of the Seven Gables (1851), Hawthorne merges elements of gothic literature with contemporary realism to create one of his most successful and enduring Romances (a genre that Hawthorne saw as distinct from the novel). The book tells the tale of the Pyncheon family, who have lived in the House of the Seven Gables for several generations, oppressed by not only the home’s heavy atmosphere but also a dark family history. Students and critics alike have discussed and analyzed the novel’s mystery, Hawthorne’s narrative technique, and the story’s strong female characters.
This panel will include the works and perspectives of four different students who were students in LIT 400 The Novel in the fall of 2019. Each has written a literary research paper focusing on the novel in part or in whole. The students’ approaches to the novel vary. However, by placing them together on this panel, we hope to achieve two goals. First, we want to highlight for the broader university community the excellent work our students do. Second, we seek to create a conversation about the novel among the student presenters and the audience while demonstrating a variety of ways young scholars can interpret and discuss literary texts.

Synthesis of Cyclopropyl Analogs of Stereochemically Rigid Probes of Certain Pharmacological Receptors
Douglas Armstrong, lead ONU faculty researcher, and his two research students, Zachary Emptage and Anderson Verhoeven, expanded their previous research (centered around acetylcholine and cholinergic activity), to include other types of pharmacological receptors, but again, aiming at the same type of compounds (cyclopropyl) to confer conformational (stereochemical) rigidity. The focus now is on compounds which, like acetylcholine, also contain an oxygen atom and a nitrogen atom separated by two carbon atoms, but which have pharmacological activity other than cholinergic. Several pharmacological categories have this pattern as known medicinal agents (“drugs”), including certain antidepressants, antihistamines, anti-anxiety drugs, etc. For some, there is a three-carbon separation, instead of two, and for some, whether a two-carbon separation or a three-carbon separation, there are two nitrogen atoms, instead of one oxygen atom and one nitrogen atom. Some (or all) of these latter cases could possibly be investigated later
Olivet Nazarene University Ward Field Parking Garage
Over past years, Olivet Nazarene University has grown a tremendous amount. Including the construction of new buildings and the increasing population of faculty and students, this growth has created a need for more parking space. In this past semester our team has been working to design a solution to this issue. We have decided to design a three-story parking garage spanning the entire parking lot east of Centennial Chapel. This parking garage will include approximately 800 additional parking spaces and will include a commuter lounge and locker rooms for the Olivet Nazarene football team. The additional parking spaces will provide enough space for students, Faculty, and guests. The commuter lounge will provide a space for commuting students to study and spend time on campus. The football team locker rooms will allow the football team to be near Ward Football Field and create more space in the Gibson Eide locker rooms for other athletics at Olivet. The Parking Garage will solve the issue of parking, develop more space for ONU athletics, and create a space for commuting students to spend time on campus
Process Water Recycling
The Millipore Sigma-Kankakee Site uses high volumes of water for many operations. One operation utilizes approximately 3600 L of water per batch every couple days and more than 3.8MM liters of water per year. The water is utilized as a component of the buffer washes used in the extraction process for cholesterol that involves various other components such as silica and ions such as sodium, sulfur, and phosphate. The washes that go through the process involve these components and large amounts of water that are then drained out of the facility. This volume is roughly 7% of the site\u27s total annual water consumption. Millipore Sigma would like us to review the quality of the effluent and recommend options for re-use, treatment for re-use, or both. An evaluation of the water to a known standard will be required as well as evaluating water recycling opportunities either as an off-site or on-site recycling process. There has been no history of any past solution attempts, although Millipore Sigma has made recent attempts to reduce water consumption in other aspects of their plant, such as the work done by ONU students last year. The water use throughout the plant is drawn from the Kankakee river, which currently shows safe standards for various components such as heavy metal concentrations [1]. Essity commissioned Olivet Senior Design Team #9 with the creation of a device that will expedite the roll change time on Machine #515 while maintaining the safety standards that Essity has set forth. The current process is manual, with inefficiencies due to operators entering and leaving the machine area along with a slow manual cut time. Our goal is to optimize this process with the addition of a new process and/or devices. The solution provided to Essity was the addition of a lowering device and a cutting device which were to be used alongside an existing piece of equipment on Machine #515
