COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AND HISPANIC STUDENTS\u27 GPA, RETENTION, AND GRADUATION RATES
Although the Hispanic population continues to grow throughout the United States, Hispanic students still have some of the lowest college retention and graduation rates. Administrators at post-secondary institutions need evidence for effective strategies to recruit, retain, and graduate Hispanic students. The current study was created to determine if there was a difference in grade point averages (GPA), retention, and graduation rates between two specific groups. The first group consisted of 506 self-identified Hispanic students engaged in at least one community college student organization versus 506 self-identified Hispanic students not engaged in any campus organization. A quantitative study was conducted to determine academic success using pre-existing data from a Midwestern community college. The data included GPA, retention rates, and graduation rates. An independent t-test was used to calculate the GPA mean for both groups, and a chi-square test was used to measure retention. Both test outcomes indicated statistically significant results for the engaged Hispanic student with higher GPA score means of p \u3c .001 and retention rates of p \u3c .001. Results showed that the self-identified Hispanic students had greater academic success once they became involved at least one community college student organization. A chi-square test was used to analyze graduation rates; however, the differences were not statistically significant. The current study could be replicated to understand other underserved populations, such as African American students. For future studies, at least three years of pre-existing data should be examined with clearly defined membership rules for each student organization
The Impact of Sports Nutrition Knowledge on the Physical Effects of Low Energy Availability in Female Cross Country Runners.

Background
The International Olympic Committee introduced the concept of Relative Energy Deficiency in Sports (RED-S) to accurately encompass the condition previously known as the Female Athlete Triad. LEA is the root cause of RED-S. (Mountjoy et al., 2014). The purpose of this study was to measure sports nutrition knowledge and the impact knowledge level has on the susceptibility to develop LEA in female cross country runners.
Methods
A quantitative design was used. Participants included the women’s cross country team at a small Midwestern university (n=20). Two validated questionnaires were administered. The Low Energy Availability in Females Questionnaire (LEAF-Q) (Melin, 2014) assessed risk for LEA, and the 49-Item Sports Nutrition Knowledge Instrument (49-SNKI) (Karpinski et al., 2019) assessed sports nutrition knowledge. Participants were assigned to two groups based on risk for LEA as indicated by the LEAF-Q results.
Results
Eleven (55%) were at risk for LEA. A 1-sample t-test was performed to examine if participants at risk for LEA scored low on the 49-SNKI. The results showed no statistically significant difference in the scores between the two groups (p=0.684).
Conclusion
A low score on the 49-SNKI (lesser knowledge of sports nutrition) was not a risk factor for developing LEA in this study. Research studies with larger participant pools are warranted
An Investigation of the Relationship Between Math Curricula and Students\u27 College Readiness
State learning standards with increased rigor have required higher levels of achievement from students on standardized tests, high-school grades, and national percentile ranks which are used for collegiate acceptance and course placement. As a result, preparation of students for standardized tests such as the ACT and SAT have become increasingly more challenging. The current quantitative, quasi-experimental study examined the relationship between the tangible math curricula used for instruction and students’ readiness for collegiate coursework. From sample sizes of 128 and 169 high-school students in two consecutive school years, there were several statistically significant relationship differences. Analysis of test results indicated that the Prentice Hall commercially-produced math curricula had statistically significant positive effects on fall semester math grades and students’ national percentile rank. Analysis also showed the All Things Algebra math curricula had a statistically significant positive effect on spring semester math grades. There was no statistically significant relationship between math curricula and math subsection scores of the ACT or SAT standardized tests. It is recommended that future research consider the changes made by teachers to instructional material, using a single standardized test, grouping students by course level, and inclusion of confounding variables such as a change of instructors or length of course enrollment

Reconstitution Efficiency on Elution Process
Our group is presenting on the Reconstitution Efficiency on Elution Process for MilliporeSigma. The process that we are working with is the mixing of BAAP (Bovine Albumin Acetone Powder) into reverse osmosis water. This process is the first step of many in the making of medical test kits, of which include HIV/AID, strep throat, and pregnancy tests. Our initial task was to reduce the mixing time by 50%, however after further exploration of the problem, a more stable and consistent process turned into our primary goal and a significant reduction in time became a secondary goal. Initially, we were using Six Sigma to create a more efficient process. Realizing that the project needed more experimentation than design, we decided to focus more on the DMAIC process. This process includes the five steps of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. Following these steps has allowed our group to have structure while working to improve this process. Through employee interaction at MilliporeSigma, experimentation and data analysis, we are excited to present our findings of which in include a standard of procedure based on our experimental results

One of the ways they intend to do this is by implementing solar powered pedestrian walkway lighting along the major downtown walkways, the goal of this is to attract more businesses to the town.
