As a gifted scholar and teacher, he outlined his views for Irish education in an essay entitled The Murder Machine . The presented research argues that Pearse had both nationalist revolutionary ideas and traditionalist ideas, bringing them together in a paradoxical vision for the future of Ireland and its children, and that this vision is what ultimately led to the Easter Rising of 1916
What Are We Teaching in Spirituality and Social Work Elective Courses? A Qualitative Content Analysis of BSW Syllabi
No full textReligion and spirituality (RS) are vital aspects of client identity and well-being, yet social work professionals are often ill-equipped to address these in practice due to a lack of specialized training. The National Association of Social Work (NASW) and Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) support spirituality integration, but existing research focuses on Master of Social Work (MSW)-level elective courses. This qualitative study addresses Bachelor of Social Work (BSW)-level integration by (a) exploring how many accredited BSW programs offer an elective course on RS and (b) analyzing syllabi from these courses to determine pedagogical best practices. BSW programs can use the study results as a guide for planning and structuring RS content within their curriculum
Kankakee in Deindustrialization: An Oral History Approach
No full textThe City of Kankakee was an industrialized city which prospered economically for decades. Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, economic trends shifted for Kankakee and the surrounding communities. The major factories, such as Roper Corporation and A.O. Smith, migrated their source of production from Kankakee to other regions of the United States and abroad during the 1970s and 1980s. As a result, the declining industrial economic activity led to changing community perceptions. Kankakee is an example of the “Rust Belt” region, a region in the Midwestern and Northeastern States of the United States where declining industrial activity occurred throughout the 1970s and 1980s. The paper uses an Oral History Approach to investigate the changing economic landscape and community and individual perceptions of Kankakee during the Deindustrialization period
Sport Specialization and Injury Risk in NAIA Athletes
No full textSport specialization is defined as intense year-round training in a single sport while excluding other sports. Though some studies have supported a relationship between increased levels of sport specialization and injury risk, others have contradicted this. Previous literature has also suggested that sport specialization levels increase dramatically throughout high school, though this hypothesized increase and possible relationship between sport specialization and injury risk has not been investigated in post-high school athletes at the NAIA level. This study aimed to investigate the possible relationship between sport specialization and injury risk, as well as how sport specialization levels change throughout college. A questionnaire was distributed online to 251 undergraduate NAIA athletes, and participants were assessed according to their levels of specialization using a 3-point scale. The injury history of participants was also gathered and compared to their level of specialization. The data were analyzed using correlational tests, showing a significant increase in specialization and a R2 value of 0.94 between injury frequency and level of specialization, though there were not enough unspecialized athletes to investigate a relationship between sport specialization and injury risk with regards to unspecialized athletes vs. specialized athletes. It is difficult to draw conclusions regarding a relationship between sport specialization and injury risk. However, the increase in both specialization and injury rates within the levels of specialization shows the need for further research into both sport specialization and injury risk, as well as research into NAIA athletes specifically
Mothers and Sons: Queen Mothers of Judah and the Religious Trends that Develop During their Sons’ Reigns
Get PDFThis thesis studies the implicit relationship between the early gĕbîrôt of the Judaean Monarchy and the religious trends during the reigns of their sons. Though previous studies noted a relationship between the origins of the gĕbîrâ and the religious evaluation of her son, a systematic treatment on this subject has not yet been written. This study systematically analyzes the first three queen mothers of Judah—Bathsheba, Naamah, and Maacah—in view of their ethnic or national origins, the theophoric nature of their sons’ names, and their implicit religious and political effects upon their sons’ reigns. In a final section, it compares these findings with later gĕbîrâ of righteous kings within the Judaean Monarchy—Abijah and Jedidah. This study confirms that pagan mothers indeed have sons that follow pagan gods, and Yahwistic mothers have devout sons, but it seeks to develop this trend in more depth
