Circularly polarised luminescence from excimer emission of anthracene derivatives complexed with γ-cyclodextrin in the solid state

    No full text
In this study, we report circularly polarised luminescence (CPL)-active molecules that exhibit high fluorescence quantum yields in the solid state. We developed anthracene derivatives with substituents at the 9 and 10 positions, such as ethyl(anthracene-9-carbonyl)glycinate (9AnGlyEt), N-butylanthracene-9-carboxamide (9AnB), N-benzylanthracene-9-carboxamide (9AnPh), and N9,N10-dibutylanthracene-9,10-dicarboxamide (9,10AnB). These compounds were complexed with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) in the solid state by grinding, and the fluorescence properties of the resulting γ-CD complexes were investigated. The fluorescence quantum yields were enhanced after γ-CD complexation. Among the prepared γ-CD complexes, 9AnGlyEt/γ-CD had the highest fluorescence quantum yield (Φf = 0.35), which was enhanced up to 5.8 times after γ-CD complexation. This was probably due to the interaction between the two anthracene molecules in the γ-CD cavity, which prevented fluorescence quenching caused by aggregation of the compounds. Positive CPL of gCPL = 1.3 × 10−3 was observed for 9AnGlyEt/γ-CD based on its excimer emission.journal articl

Encouraging Tactics with Genetically Modified Probiotics to Improve Immunity for the Prevention of Immune-Related Diseases including Cardio-Metabolic Disorders

    No full text
The PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway may play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of obesity and diabetes mellitus, as well as metabolic syndromes, which could also be risk factors for cardio-metabolic disorders. Consistently, it has been shown that beneficial effects may be convoyed by the modulation of the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway against the development of these diseases. Importantly, the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway can be modulated by probiotics. Probiotics have a variety of beneficial properties, with the potential of treating specific diseases such as immune-related diseases, which are valuable to human health. In addition, an increasing body of work in the literature emphasized the contribution of genetically modified probiotics. There now seems to be a turning point in the research of probiotics. A better understanding of the interactions between microbiota, lifestyle, and host factors such as genetics and/or epigenetics might lead to a novel therapeutic approach with probiotics for these diseases. This study might provide a theoretical reference for the development of genetically modified probiotics in health products and/or in functional foods for the treatment of cardio-metabolic disorders.journal articl

Possible Third Step Preventing Conjugation between Different Species of Blepharisma

    No full text
In the genus Blepharisma, reproductive isolation between different species appears to be established at least by two barriers: (1) a mating pheromone, i.e., gamone 1, and (2) a factor involved in pair formation. Using four species, we experimentally investigated other potential barriers to interspecific conjugation in Blepharisma, as well as the first and second barriers. Cell-free fluid from type I cells (CFF1) of B. americanum had no effect on B. undulans, B. japonicum, or B. stoltei. Type II cells of B. americanum responded to CFF1 from B. americanum but not to CFF1 from B. undulans, B. japonicum, or B. stoltei. Gamone 1, therefore, seems to be the first reproductive barrier (with the inclusion of B. americanum species [megakaryotype 3]) as reported previously. In pretreated cells with complementary gamones in B. undulans and B. americanum, inter-species pair formation was rare, but pair formation between B. americanum and B. japonicum and between B. americanum and B. stoltei occurred at relatively high frequency. Most of the inter-species B. americanum–B. stoltei pairs underwent nuclear changes specific to conjugation. No significant difference was observed between the intra- and inter-species pairs over the time course of the nuclear changes, but the percentage of abnormal cells was higher in inter-species pairs than in intra-species pairs, and no progenies were produced by inter-species pairs. These results suggest a third barrier or step, in addition to the first and second ones, in nuclear changes after pair formation that prevents interspecific conjugation in Blepharisma.journal articl

Two-particle angular correlations in e+e− collisions to hadronic final states in two reference coordinates at Belle

    No full text
We present the analysis of two-particle angular correlations using coordinate systems defined with the conventional beam axis and the event thrust axis. We propose the latter as a good representation for the correlation structure interpretation in the e+e− collision system. The e+e− collisions to hadronic final states at center-of-mass energies of √s= 10.52 GeV and 10.58 GeV are recorded by the Belle detector at KEKB. In this paper, results on the first dataset are supplementary to the previous Belle publication [1]. At the same time, the latter is the first two-particle correlation measurement at collision energy on the Υ(4S) resonance and is sensitive to its decay products. Measurements are reported as a function of the charged-particle multiplicity. Finally, a qualitative understanding of the correlation structure is discussed using a combination of Monte Carlo simulations and experimental data.journal articl

    従属変数の項目体系に対応した多変量マルチレベ ル回帰モデル: 平等化政策への支持態度に関する要因分析を例に

    No full text
In this paper, I propose a method that applies multivariate multilevel regression model for estimating the effect of independent variables on dependent variables consisting of multiple items. As long-format data in which items are nested in individuals, contrast coding is applied when treating items as dummy variables corresponding to item structure assumed. As an application example, I execute the analysis of attitudes toward equality policies composed of six items as dependent variables and estimate effects of independent variables at various synthetic stages of items. In addition, I compare the results with those obtained by applying other analytical methods to wide-format data. The above estimates approximate those obtained by multivariate regression analysis with equality constraints on several effects. The advantages of estimates for the synthetic phase which is not covered by that anlaysis is confirmed.journal articl
