Examen de l’indépendance du texte des questions de tests standardisés de compréhension en lecture
Répertoire vocabulaire type : enfant franco-ontarien et franco-dominant
Objet : Description du développement de la production langagière chez les jeunes enfants francophones du Canada à l’extérieur du Québec. Exploration du corpus langagier de 13 enfants franco-ontariens et franco-dominants, âgés de 50 à 61 mois et vivant en situation linguistique minoritaire (région du Grand-Sudbury).
Méthode :
Démarche psycholinguistique utilisant des échantillons de langage spontanés recueillis chez des enfants franco-ontariens grâce à une période de conversation semi-structurée. Analyse avec le logiciel SALT (2012) de la longueur moyenne des énoncés (en mots) produits par ces enfants dans chacun des échantillons de langage ayant servi à cette étude et provenant de données d’une recherche antérieure (Mayer-Crittenden, 2013).
Résultats : Le répertoire lexical de l’enfant franco-ontarien d’âge scolaire, 50 à 61 mois, est composé d’une proportion plus élevée de verbes (21.83%). Les autres catégories (les déterminants, pronoms, noms, adverbes) sont soit égales soit plus faibles en proportion par rapport à la référence ayant servie à l’étude (Parisse et Le Normand, 2001 et 2006).
Conclusion : Les enfants franco-ontariens, franco-européens et franco-québecois semblent produire en moyenne le même nombre de mots que les enfants francophones vivant en milieu majoritaire mais en produisent moins que les enfants anglophones canadiens

La place de la neuroscience dans le domaine de la santé n’est plus à faire. Les livres, les revues scientifiques ainsi que les magazines populaires font régulièrement référence à cette science pour expliquer le comportement humain. Plusieurs disciplines, des sciences infirmières à la psychoéducation en passant par l’économie et la philosophie, utilisent les connaissances issues de ce domaine. Mais quelle est la place actuelle de la neuroscience, plus précisément la neuroscience sociale, dans la pratique du service sociale ? Comment serait-il possible d’intégrer certaines connaissances de la neuroscience sociale à une pratique généraliste du service social tout en respectant la profession ? The metabolic enzyme locus Triosephosphate Isomerase (Tpi) in Drosophila melanogaster is sensitive to the pairing- dependent trans interaction transvection
Recent advances in our ability to visualize and quantify interactions between chromosomes have made the study of these interactions a key step in advancing our understanding of gene regulation. A special form of trans interactions, called transvection, occurs when homologous chromosomes are physically paired in somatic cells. I have characterized interactions at the Triosephosphate isomerase (Tpi) locus, present on the third chromosome, in Drosophila melanogaster using a combination of enzymatic and transcriptional assays and a series of low activity Tpi alleles I generated. I found significant interactions in trans at Tpi which showed a dependence on pairing of homologous chromosomes, this dependence classifies the trans effects at Tpi as the special form of regulation, transvection. These transvection effects at Tpi are also sensitive to genetic background, where the excision alleles have different transvection effect interactions based on the variation of the third chromosome with which they are paired. The presence of transvection at Tpi provides a new locus at which to study chromosomal interactions and confirms previous results that pairing dependent interactions, in vivo, are subject to a number of complex regulatory elements
Sexual dimorphism and alternative reproductive tactics in the Midland Painted Turtle (Chrysemys(picta(marginata)
The reproductive strategy of Painted Turtles (Chrysemys picta) has been described as a
combination of male courtship and female mate choice. However, in situ field
observations from a long-term study of C. picta in Algonquin Provincial Park (Ontario,
Canada) suggest that males also demonstrate coercive mating tactics. Males are equipped
with prominent tomiodonts, tooth-like cusps of the upper jaw, which seemingly function
in restraining mates and result in wounding to the head and neck of females. I propose
that the tomiodonts of male C. picta serve as sexual weapons used to coerce females into
mating. This thesis has two main objectives: 1) to describe the tomiodont morphology of
C. picta, and 2) to test the functional significance of tomiodonts in the mating tactics of
male C. picta. In Chapter I, I investigate the overall cranial morphology of C. picta with
an emphasis on sexual dimorphism of the tomiodonts. I show that male C. picta have
sexually size dimorphic tomiodonts with an optimized arrangement for biting and
gripping. In Chapter II, I investigate the soft tissue wounding demographics of a C. picta
population as these wounds relate to antagonistic sexual interactions. Using a 24-year
dataset on wounding I show that large females experience the highest wounding
probability and that elevated rates of wounding occur during the late summer breeding
period. In Chapter III, I use behavioural trials during the spring and late summer
reproductive seasons to evaluate male reproductive behaviour. I show that small males
court females through titillation, whereas larger males employ coercive tactics, such as
biting and forced submergence. My findings are contrary to the female choice mating
system reported for C. picta and join a growing body of research demonstrating the
importance of coercive tactics in the reproduction of male emydid turtles
Free will vs determinism: reconstructing the model for understanding space-time dynamics and the role of consciousness within the universe
The thrust of this thesis was to approach the historical question of whether or not “thought” or “mind” can affect physical processes from a different perspective. Alterations in generate random numbers from PN junction which are synapse-like interfaces mediating electron movement were assessed when people intended upon altering these fluctuations while being exposed to weak magnetic fields that could affect intention. The results indicated that specific physiological patterns of transcerebral magnetic fields interacted with intention to alter random fluctuation. Paired exposure of two random number devices at non-traditional distances to these patterned magnetic fields with changing angular velocities demonstrated clear evidence of classic excess correlation or “entanglement”. As the random variation drifted in one direction for one device the variation drifted in the other direction for the other device but only when the magnetic fields were operating. Quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG) correlates of the multiple subscales of a questionnaire by which “imaginative absorption” is inferred, indicated surprisingly strong associations between scores for specific subscales coupled to successful intention-related deviation of random numbers and low frequency power (theta-alpha range) within the right temporal lobe. However many other strong correlations were also observed. These results suggest that intention, an important traditional associate of “free will”, can affect random variations of electron-tunnelling processes but this coupling can be enhanced by externally originating pattern magnetic fields. These same fields when applied to two different spaces produce changes in random fluctuations that success excess correlation. One conclusion is that external forces that synchronize local spaces also occupied by brains could be a recondite determinant of the ultimate activity in electron movement in tissue whose correlative experience is the sense of “free will”
