Determination of apigenin in cosmetics containing chamomile by high-performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection (HPLC-UV)
A simple, rapid, and precise high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed to determine the flavonoid apigenin in cosmetic products containing chamomile extracts. A C18 column was used as stationary phase and 70:30 ethanol:water was used as mobile phase with a 1 mL/min flow rate and isocratic elution. The temperature was stabilized at 25 degrees C during the separation. The injection volume was 50 mu L. The apigenin peak was eluted at 4.15 +/- 0.4 min. The method was validated according to International Conference on Harmonisation (ICH) criteria in terms of linearity, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, selectivity, sensitivity, robustness, accuracy, and precision. The limits of detection and quantitation were 0.060 and 0.2 mu g/mL respectively. The linear range was from 0.2 to 20 mu g/mL. The relative standard deviation values for intraday and interday analyses were less than 1.64%. The developed procedure was applied to the analysis of various cosmetic products. It is expected that the method is suitable for routine analysis, quality control and standardization of cosmetic products for apigenin
Influence of drilling parameters on the delamination and surface roughness of insulative-coated glass/carbonhybrid composite
Drilling in synthetic fiber-reinforced polymer composites is facing challenges due to their anisotropic, inhomogeneity, and abrasive machining behavior. The joining of composite parts using fasteners is commonly done by the drilling, and the generated heat is one of the main causes to damage the drilled hole in the composite. Moreover, the quality of drilled hole is crucial for joining parts effectively. The paper presents the design, fabrication, and drilling of a hybrid fiber-reinforced polymer (HFRP) based on insulative coating. These composites were fabricated using vacuum infusion molding (VIM) and coated with different thicknesses to investigate the influence of drilling parameters and associated damages. Cutting speed, feed rate, and coating thicknesses were varied, and a full factorial design of the experiment was formulated. High-speed steel (HSS) twist drill bit was used to drill the coated composite and test samples, and delamination factor and surface roughness were measured. ANOVA and full factorial response optimizer were used to evaluate the influence and optimum drilling parameters. The delamination factor (DF) at the entry and surface roughness were found to decrease with the increasing cutting speed. However, the DF at the exit showed the opposite. Coating thickness influenced the delamination at the entry whereas delamination at the exit has been found insignificant. For drilling HFRP composite with 1 mm coating thickness, 3000 RPM spindle speed and 0.08 mm/rev feed rate were found optimum parameters in minimizing surface roughness and delamination damage. However, 6000 RPM and 0.02 mm/rev were found optimum parameters for drilling HFRP composite with 1.5 mm coating thickness
ROI-based analysis of diffusion indices in healthy subjects and subjects with deficit or non-deficit syndrome schizophrenia
We analyzed DTI data involving 22 healthy subjects (HC), 15 patients with deficit syndrome schizophrenia (DSZ), and 25 patients with non-deficit syndrome schizophrenia (NDSZ). We used a 1.5-T MRI scanner to collect diffusion-weighted images and T1 images, which were employed to correct distortions and deformations within the diffusion-weighted images. For 156 regions of interest (ROI), we calculated the average fractional anisotropy (FA), mean diffusion (MD), and radial diffusion (RD). Each ROI underwent a group-wise comparison using permutation F-test, followed by post hoc pairwise comparisons with Bonferroni correction. In general, we observed lower FA in both schizophrenia groups compared to HC (i.e., HC>(DSZ=NDSZ)), while MD and RD showed the opposite pattern. Notably, specific ROIs with reduced FA in schizophrenia patients included bilateral nucleus accumbens, left fusiform area, brain stem, anterior corpus callosum, left rostral and caudal anterior cingulate, right posterior cingulate, left thalamus, left hippocampus, left inferior temporal cortex, right superior temporal cortex, left pars triangularis and right lingual gyrus. Significantly, the right cuneus exhibited lower FA in the DSZ group compared to other groups ((HC=NDSZ)>DSZ), without affecting MD and RD. These results indicate that compromised neural integrity in the cuneus may contribute to the pathophysiological distinctions between DSZ and NDSZ.Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University -- NKUBAP.02.GA.18.1
Servis kanserinde fotodinamik tedavi
Cancer is one of the most common and feared illnesses in modern society. Its prevalence has been gradually rising in recent years. The fourth most common malignancy in women worldwide is cervical cancer (CC). Surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy are examples of conventional treatments, but they are invasive and have negative side effects. In addition, metastasis is observed in roughly 70% of individuals with late-stage CC due to limits and treatment resistance. In addition to treating primary CC, photodynamic therapy (PDT) is an alternate CC treatment strategy that has been clinically shown to reduce subsequent metastasis. Because PDT is a non-invasive focused treatment with less adverse effects and reduced resistance to dose repetitions, it is believed to be much more beneficial. This review study’s objective is to examine the studies on PDT’s efficacy in treating cervical cancer
In vitro antileishmanial activity of Lavandula angustifolia essential oil on leishmania infantum parasites
This study was funded by the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering, Yeditepe University. Objective: Leishmaniasis is an endemic tropical disease that is disseminated through the bite of a sandfly infected with Leishmania parasites. Conventional antileishmanial drugs are mainly toxic and can be ineffective; therefore, there is a need for new natural drug candidates. This study investigated the antileishmanial effects of Lavandula angustifolia (LA) essential oil on Leishmania infantum (L. infantum) parasites, and the safety features were tested on RAW264.7 murine macrophages. Materials and Methods: LA essential oil was produced through the process of hydro-distillation, and its phytochemical content was determined using the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. The antileishmanial effects of LA (0.063 to1 µL/mL) on L. infantum parasites as well as their safety features were assessed on RAW264.7 murine macrophages. Results: The composition of LA essential oil was detected using GC-MS analysis, including linalool, pinene, 1, 8-cineole, linalyl acetate, and lavandulol. Concentrations at and above 0.5 µL/mL LA indicated a significant reduction (71% decrease) in the parasite proliferation, and caused a slight reduction in macrophage viability to 70% at 72 h. Conclusions: The findings revealed the antileishmanial effect of LA on L. infantum parasites with relatively less toxicity on macrophages. The promising antileishmanial efficacy highlights the potential for further in vivo studies
The relationship between the beliefs of students studying at the faculty of health sciences toward mental illnesses and their personality types
INTRODUCTION: This study aims to determine the beliefs of students studying at the Faculty of Health Sciences toward mental illnesses, how their sociodemographic characteristics affect these beliefs, and the relationship between their personality types and these beliefs. METHODS: Students from the Faculty of Health Sciences (Nutrition and Dietetics, Social Work, Health Management, Audiology, and Nursing) studying at a state university were included in the sample of the descriptive study (n=491). The Personal Information Form, Beliefs Toward Mental Illness (BMI) Scale, and Type A and Type B Personality Questionnaire were used as data collection tools. The evaluation of the obtained data was performed using the SPSS 24.0 program, number and percentage distribution frequency, Spearman correlation, Mann–Whitney U test, Kruskal–Wallis, and the t-test. The limit of statistical significance was p<0.05. RESULTS: Of the student participants, 42.2% had type A personality behavior, and 57.8% had type B personality behavior. It was seen that the negative beliefs of the students toward mental illness were moderate (45.7±15.1). There was a significant difference between the total score of the students on the BMI scale and their personality types (p<.000). It was determined that individuals with type B personality behavior had fewer negative beliefs about mental illnesses than individuals with type A personality behavior (p<.000). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: According to the results of the research, it was determined that there was a significant relationship between personality types and beliefs toward mental illnesses. Nurses, in their role as researchers, can examine the relationship between personality type and stigma in mental illness. Based on the studies showing that negative beliefs and attitudes toward mental illnesses are reduced with education, nurses as trainers can organize awareness trainings for mental illnesses, which is an important component of their profession
