Biometric analysis hand parameters in young adults for prosthetic hand and ergonomic product applications
This study aimed to evaluate the superficial anatomy, kinesiology, and functions of the hand to reveal its morphometry and apply the findings in various fields such as prosthetic hand and protective hand support product design. We examined 51 young adults (32 females, 19 males) aged between 18-30. Hand photographs were taken, and measurements were conducted using ImageJ software. Pearson correlation analysis was performed to determine the relationship between personal information and the parameters. The results of the measurements showed the average lengths of finger segments: thumb (49.5±5.5 mm), index finger (63.9±4.1 mm), middle finger (70.7±5.2 mm), ring finger (65.5±4.8 mm), and little finger (53.3±4.3 mm). Both females and males, the left index finger was measured longer than the right index finger. The right ring finger was found to be longer than the left in both sexes. Additionally, length differences between fingers in extended and maximally adducted positions were determined: thumb-index finger (56.1±6.2 mm), index-middle finger (10.7±4.1 mm), middle-ring finger (10.8±1.4 mm), and ring-little finger (25.6±2.7 mm). Other findings included the average radial natural angle (56.4°±10.5°), ulnar natural angle (23.4°±7.1°), radial deviation angle (65.2°±8.2°), ulnar deviation angle (51.2°±9.6°), and grasping/gripping angle (49.1°±5.8°). The average angles between fingers in maximum abduction positions were also measured: thumb-index finger (53.4°±6.5°), index-middle finger (17.2°±2.6°), middle-ring finger (14.3°±2.3°), and ring-little finger (32.1°±7.0°). The study examined the variability in the positioning of proximal interphalangeal joints during maximum metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal flexion, coinciding with maximum distal interphalangeal extension movements. The focal points of our observations were the asymmetrical and symmetrical arches formed by these joints. This study provides valuable hand parameters in young adults, which can be utilized in various applications such as prosthetic design, ergonomic product development, and hand-related research. The results highlight the significance of considering individual factors when assessing hand morphology and function

In today's world, interest in the aviation sector and developments within it continue to grow at an accelerated pace. With this increase, the demand for the production of components for unmanned aerial vehicles, passenger airplanes, or jet aircraft has risen correspondingly. However, due to the complex structure of aviation parts, the strategy employed during their processing is of significant importance. The distortion issue encountered in the machining of aviation parts, particularly in thin-walled components, leads to unwanted dimensional changes and significantly complicates the production of these parts. This study aims to investigate the effects of different machining techniques on the widely used Al 7075 T7351 aluminum alloy in the aviation sector and to contribute the experimental results to both readers and the literature. In the experiments, samples of Al 7075 T7351 aluminum alloy with thicknesses of 1.00 mm, 1.20 mm, and 1.50 mm were processed using various machining strategies. According to the experimental results, the effect of tool strategy on thickness was observed to vary between a minimum of 0.67% and a maximum of 7.78%. Taking the average of the minimum and maximum values of the three samples, the average effect of the tool path strategy on surface roughness was found to be 55.46%, and its effect on parallelism varied between 37.50% and 112.50%. Furthermore, it is believed that the methods presented in this study will contribute to solving similar problems in other industries, in addition to the aviation sector, in areas such as material selection, determination of processing parameters, and compliance of three-dimensional coordinate measurements (CMM) with standards.Günümüzde havacılık sektörüne olan ilgi ve gelişmeler artarak devam etmektedir. Bu artışla beraber insansız hava araçları, yolcu uçakları veya jet uçaklarının komponent üretimine olan talep o oranda artmaktadır. Ancak havacılık parçalarının karmaşık yapıda olmaları sebebiyle işlenme sırasındaki strateji oldukça önemlidir. Havacılık parçalarının işlenmesinde karşılaşılan distorsiyon sorunu, özellikle ince cidarlı bileşenlerde istenmeyen boyutsal değişimlere neden olmakta ve bu parçaların üretiminde önemli ölçüde zorluk oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma ile havacılık sektöründe çokça kullanılan Al 7075 T7351 alüminyum alaşımının farklı işleme teknikleri üzerindeki etkileri araştırılarak deney sonuçlarının okuyucuya ve literatüre katkı sunulması amaçlanmıştır. Deneylerde 1,00 mm, 1,20 mm ve 1,50 mm kalınlıklarındaki üç farklı Al 7075 T7351 alüminyum alaşım malzeme örnekleri çeşitli işleme stratejileri kullanılarak işlenmiştir. Deney sonuçlarına göre takım stratejisinin kalınlığa etkisi en fazla %7,78 ve en az %0,67 oranında olduğu görülmüştür. Üç numunenin minimum ve maksimum değerlerinin ortalaması alındığında takım yolu stratejisinin yüzey pürüzlülüğü üzerindeki ortalama etki değeri %55,46 ve paralelliğe etkisi ise %37,50 ile % 112,50 oranında değişiklik gösterdiği görülmüştür. Ayrıca bu çalışmada sunulan yöntemler, malzeme seçimi, işleme parametrelerinin belirlenmesi ve üç boyutlu koordinat ölçümlerinin (CMM) standartlara uygunluğu gibi konularda, havacılık sektörünün yanında diğer endüstrilerde benzer sorunların çözümüne katkıda bulunacağı düşünülmektedir
Overexpression of CDC25A, AURKB, and TOP2A genes could be an important clue for luminal a breast cancer
Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is highly heterogeneous and one of the most common cancers. Luminal A (LUM A) is a subtype of BC with a better prognosis than other BC subtypes. The molecular mechanisms underlying the initiation and progression of the LUM A subtype are still unclear. Big data generated from microarray and sequencing systems can be re-analyzed, especially with the help of various in silico tools developed in recent years, and made applicable for in vitro and in vivo research. This work aimed to identify genes that may play a role in the progression of LUM A subtype of BC using both computational and laboratory-based methods. Materials and Methods: Overlapping genes associated with BC were identified from the The Cancer Genome Atlas database, GSE233242, GSE100925 geodata sets, and the geneshot tool. The network functional analysis between overlapping genes was determined with STRING 12.0. Expression levels of overlapping genes in BC were investigated with the TNMplot (https://tnmplot.com/analysis/) in silico tool. The effect of overlapping genes on the overall survival of LUM A cancer patients was defined using the Kaplan-Meier plotter tool. Expressions of genes identified using bioinformatics data were investigated via quantitative real-time -polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) in LUM A tumor and adjacent tissue samples. The data were evaluated using the t-test. Both the sensitivity and specificity of selected genes have been determined using the receiver operating characteristic curve. Results: In silico investigation showed that eleven genes were possibly associated with BC. Among them CDC25A, AURKB, and TOP2A were considerably increased in LUM A samples according to qRT-PCR results. An overall survival analysis also showed that overexpression of these three genes could reduce the overall survival of LUM A patients. Conclusion: The genes CDC25A, AURKB, and TOP2A may play crucial functions in LUM A pathogenesis. Therapeutic strategies that diminish the expression of these connected genes may enhance the prognosis of LUM A patients
Spray-assisted drop formation liquid-phase microextraction for the determination of sertraline in environmental water samples with matrix-matching calibration in GC–MS
Sertraline is used as an antidepressant drug for the treatment of psychiatric disorders, including anxiety and depres sion. In the current study, a simple and efective method was developed for the sensitive monitoring of sertraline in water samples using a GC–MS system. The spray-assisted droplet formation liquid-phase microextraction (SADF LPME) method was used as a sample preparation method for the enrichment of analytes. Accordingly, dichlo romethane was used as an extraction solvent and easily dispersed into a sample/standard solution using a lab-made modifed spray device without using a dispersing solvent. The signifcant factors afecting the SADF-LPME efciency, including sample pH, mixing conditions, extraction solvent type, and spray cycle, were univariately optimized to ascertain the extraction performance and applicability of the system. Under the optimized conditions, the plotted calibration curve of the method was linear in the range of 100.2–2011.7 µg/kg (mass-based standard preparation) with a good correlation coefcient (R2 ) of 0.9997. The detection and quantifcation limits of method were found to be 37.5 and 125 µg/kg, respectively. Validation of the method was successfully carried out using diferent tap water samples and applying a matrix-matching calibration strategy. The acceptable percent recoveries were recorded between 77.3 and 133.7%, with high repeatability. The recommended method is an alternative and fast extraction method with several advantages, including a simple experimental process, good dispersibility, and fast and superior extraction performance. It can be readily applicable to the monitoring and quantifcation of sertraline in tap water samples with good precision and accuracy
Sex and income level can be determinants for meat attachment behavior among Turkish university students
Background: The Meat Attachment Questionnaire (MAQ) is a scale to measure the positive bond in meat consumption. Aims: This study aimed to validate and assess reliability of the Turkish version of the MAQ and to explore its relationship with various factors, including sociodemographic characteristics, meat consumption habits, and subscales of the Green Eating Survey (GES). Subjects and Methods: The study was carried out with 214 university students. Participants completed the MAQ, the Food Frequency Questionnaire, and the GES. Statistical analyses including item analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, intraclass correlation coefficient test - retest reliability, one-way ANOVA, Welch ANOVA, t-test, Pearson’s correlation, and post hoc tests (Tukey’s HSD and Games-Howell), were performed using SPSS (version 26). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted with the lavaan (version 0.6 – 13) and semPlot (version 1.1.6) R packages. Results: All factor loadings were statistically significant, and high fit indices were obtained for the model tested in the second-order CFA model. (χ2 /df = 151,93/101 = 1.50; RMSEA = 0.05; SRMR = 0.08; NFI = 0.97; NNFI = 0.99; CFI = 0.99; GFI = 0.98; AGFI = 0.97). Significant differences were found in several MAQ subscale scores: hedonism, entitlement, dependence, and global scores were higher among men (p < 0.05). The entitlement score was significantly higher in the “income < expenses “group compared to the “income = expenses “group (p < 0.05). Participants with higher red meat and poultry consumption exhibited significantly higher hedonism, dependence, and global MAQ scores (p < 0.05). Conclusions: The Turkish version of the MAQ can be accepted as a reliable and valid scale for use among university students. While factors such as sex, income level, and meat consumption appear to influence MAQ scores, body mass index and green eating behaviors do not have a direct effec
Building health sciences library collections: A handbook
Kütüphaneler, kullanıcı türlerine göre farklı hizmetler sunan bilgi merkezleridir. Bu hizmetler, birçok farklı disiplini kapsadığı gibi sadece belli bir disipline yönelik de olabilir. Kütüphane koleksiyonun oluşturulması doğru planlama ve strateji ile yürütüldüğünde kütüphanenin kullanıcılarına amaca uygun ve kapsamlı bilgi hizmetleri sunmasını sağlar. Bu süreçte kullanıcı ihtiyaçlarına odaklanmak ve sürekli gelişimi hedeflemek, başarılı bir koleksiyon yönetimi için temel unsurlardır. Bununla beraber, koleksiyon geliştirmeye yönelik süreçlerde basılı ve elektronik kaynakların dengesinin oluşturulması, bütçe yönetiminin sağlanması ve güncel kaynakların koleksiyona dâhil edilmesi önemli hususlar arasında yer almaktadır. Bu çalışmada, “Building Health Sciences Library Collections: A Handbook” isimli kitabın tanıtımı yapılmaktadır. Editörlüğünü Megan Inman ve Marlena Rose’un üstlendiği bu eser, 8 farklı yazar tarafından sağlık bilimleri koleksiyonunda ne tür kaynakların yer alması gerektiğini ve seçim süreçlerindeki zorlukları 9 bölüm içerisinde değerlendirerek kullanıcılarına sunmuştur.Libraries are information centres that provide services to different types of users. These services may cover many different disciplines, or they may be oriented towards a particular discipline. When the creation of a library collection is carried out with the right planning and strategy, it enables the library to provide purposeful and comprehensive information services to its users. In this process, focusing on user needs and aiming for continuous development are essential elements for successful collection management. In addition, it is important to create a balance between printed and electronic resources, to ensure budget management, and to include up-to-date resources in the collection in collection development processes. In this study, "Building Health Sciences Library Collections: A Handbook" is introduced. This book, edited by Megan Inman and Marlena Rose, is presented to its users by 8 different authors by evaluating what kind of resources should be included in the health sciences collection and the difficulties in the selection processes in 9 chapters
Practical health education experiences of nursing students: Qualitative research
Objective: The study aimed to explore the experiences, expectations, and suggestions of undergraduate nursing students regarding a health education seminar on technology addiction. Method: This is a qualitative descriptive study. A convenience sample of undergraduate nursing students who had organized and actively participated in a health education seminar about Technology Addiction conducted in a public high school in Istanbul was asked to participate in the study. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six nursing students in the fifth semester of a four-year nursing degree program who were accepted to participate in the study. Thematic content analysis was used. Results: Two themes; (1) Reflections on the health education seminar and (2) Reflections on the role of nurses as health educators, and seven sub-themes were identified: seminar preparation process, feelings regarding practice as a nurse educator, raising community awareness, preparation for the future, difficulties in working as a group, importance of the nurse’s role as an educator and deficiencies in health education in nursing practice. Conclusion: The health education seminar on technology addiction not only revealed challenges but also had significant positive impacts on the academic and professional development of nursing students. The emphasized positive effects underscore the ongoing importance of innovative educational initiatives that not only address contemporary health challenges but also promote the personal and professional growth of future nurses
Determination of rhodium in soil by DispersiveSolid-Phase Extraction (DSPE) with manganese ferrite nanoparticles and Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry(FAAS)
Manganese ferrite (MnFe2O4) nanoparticles-assisted dispersive solid-phase extraction (MF-DSPE) was developed for the determination ofrhodium (Rh) in soil samples at low levels with good accuracy andprecision by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). The syn-thesis of MnFe2O4nanoparticles was carried out in a microwave sys-tem by a rapid procedure. The pH, buffer volume, sorbent mass,sample volume, eluent volume/concentration, and mixing time wereidentified with univariate optimization. Under the optimal conditions,the limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) were 4.4 and14.7mgL 1, respectively. The sensitivity was improved by 121.9-foldbased upon comparison of the limits of detection with and withoutpreconcentration. The applicability was investigated by spiking rho-dium into soil extracts, and good recovery results between 91.2%and 122.2% were achieved using matrix matching calibration. Theresults showed that MF-DSPE-FAAS determines low levels of rhodiumin soil with good accuracy and precision
Mefenpir-dietilin arpa, yulaf ve mısır püskülü matrikslerinde gaz kromatografisi - alev iyonizasyon dedektörü (GC-FID) ile doğru ve hassas tayini
Pesticides are frequently utilized in the cultivation of agricultural products for human consumption to prevent / minimize the detrimental effects caused by pests and to keep the yield at the desired levels at harvest time. Besides the benefits of pesticides, unconscious use of pesticides causes the occurrence of different diseases. Monitoring the levels of pesticide residues is of vital importance for the environment, human, and other living organisms. In the present study, an analytical method was reported for the determination of mefenpyr-diethyl (MFD) as a member of the herbicide group by gas chromatography flame ionization detector (GC-FID) system with high accuracy and sensitivity. An in-column temperature program was established to effectively separate the analyte, and MFD was determined at a retention time of 5.2 min. The limit of detection (LOD), the limit of quantitation (LOQ), and the linear working range were found to be 0.01 mg/L, 0.04 mg/L, and 0.07-29.7 mg/L, respectively. The applicability of the determination method was investigated by recovery studies with barley, oat, and corn silk matrices. No analytical signal was recorded for MFD in blank samples of all three species. Recovery results close to 100% showed that MFD could be determined with high accuracy in barley, oat, and corn silk matrices.İnsan tüketiminde olan zirai ürünlerin yetiştirilmesinde zararlıların neden olacağı bozucu etkileri önlemek / en aza indirmek ve hasat sırasında verimin istenen seviyelerde tutmak amacıyla pestisitlerden sıklıkla yararlanılmaktadır. Pestisitlerin faydalarının yanı sıra, bilinçsiz kullanımı farklı hastalıkların ortaya çıkmasına neden olmaktadır. Pestisit kalıntılarının seviyelerinin izlenmesi çevre, insanlar ve diğer canlı organizmalar için hayati önem taşımaktadır. Bu çalışmada, herbisit grubunun bir üyesi olan mefenpir-dietilin (MFD) gaz kromatografisi alev iyonizasyon dedektörü (GC-FID) sistemi ile yüksek doğruluk ve hassasiyetle tayini için analitik bir yöntem rapor edilmiştir. Analitin etkili bir şekilde ayrılması için kolon içi sıcaklık programı oluşturulmuş ve 5,2 dakikalık bir alıkonma süresinde MFD tayin edilmiştir. Gözlenebilme limiti (GL), tayin limiti (TL) ve doğrusal çalışma aralığı sırasıyla 0,01 mg/L, 0,04 mg/L, ve 0,07-29,7 mg/L olarak bulunmuştur. Tayin yönteminin uygulanabilirliği arpa, yulaf ve mısır püskülü örnekleri ile yapılan geri kazanım çalışmaları ile araştırılmıştır. Her üç türün kör numunelerinde MFD için analitik bir sinyal kaydedilmemiştir. %100’e yakın geri kazanım sonuçları arpa, yulaf ve mısır püskülü örneklerinde yüksek doğrulukta MFD’nin tayin edilebileceğini göstermiştir
Green synthesis of zinc oxide nanoparticles including Rosehip (Rosa canina L.) seed extract: Evaluation of its characterization and bioactivity properties
The use of bioactive compounds in plants as reducing, stabilizing, and capping agents in nanoparticle manufacturing is an exceptionally eco-friendly approach. This work used rosehip seed extract, acquired by automatic solvent extraction, in the microwave-assisted green production of zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs). The total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC), and antioxidant activity of the extracted materials and nanoparticles were assessed using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) assays. The ideal synthesis parameters were established as 25 mL of extract, pH 12, 360 W of microwave power, and a metal salt concentration of 0.05 M for a duration of 7 minutes. The characterization of the ZnO NPs synthesized under these conditions was performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray analysis (SEM-EDX), dynamic light scattering (DLS), zeta potential measurements, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
